Cliff Waters Cottage, Private oceanfront secluded relaxation, Pleasant Bay, NS
says: "Can't imagine a better accommodation for a visit to Cape Breton", "A trip to repeat!", " Lovely, well equipped cottage in a stunning location",, "Relaxing, coupled with exceptional scenery". Cliff
Waters Cottage in Pleasant Bay is very secluded, yet central to the best of Cape Breton - the Cabot Trail, Cape Breton Highlands National Park, the Gulf of St. Lawrence, whale watching, Pollett's Cove, and Gampo Abbey Buddhist Monastery. Just
off the beaten track this secluded oceanfront retreat on 89 acres of private land has a panoramic view of the ocean, mountains, sunsets, national park, whales, diving gannets, fishermen, stars, and community of Pleasant Bay. There is a sandy beach at the bottom of the hill with both river and ocean swimming. Hiking, sightseeing, whale watching, restaurants, shops, and local craftspeople are all within minutes of Cliff Waters. The cottage is fully equipped, very clean, comfortable and relaxed with a large deck and large windows overlooking the ocean and sunsets. The cottage has an open concept and is best suited to a couple, but is also great for a small family. Pleasant
Bay is a sleepy little fishing village nestled in the foothills of the Highlands National Park. Through winter there is a one-store-town of about 120 people. In summer, fishermen head out to sea and a handful of accommodation, shop, whale tour and restaurant owners open their doors for tourists travelling along the Cabot Trail. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and the locals are easy to talk to. We rely on communities outside of the park - mainly Cheticamp - for services such as groceries, gas, alcohol and banking. There
are many hiking trails, beaches, scenic lookouts, birding and wildlife opportunities, whale tour operators, shops, restaurants, cultural centres, and music venues within a scenic 5 - 45 minute drive of Cliff Waters Cottage. Just down the road is a Buddhist monastery. Around 25 people live, work and study at the Abbey year round. They meditate daily in a shrine overlooking the Gulf of St. Lawrence, and balance their study with a work period in the commune. It is not uncommon to travel the remote road and see nuns and monks walking, maroon robes dancing in the wind - quite a remarkable sight. There is a Stupa of Enlightenment on the Abbey grounds with slogans of wisdom engraved in stone. You can tour the Abbey daily in the afternoon throughout the summer for a small donation. At
the end of the dirt road, a footpath continues along the coast for roughly 9.5 kms to an abandoned settlement named Pollett's Cove. In the early 1900's, large families lived here with fishing and farming as a way of life. There was a school, a lobster canning factory, fishing shacks and houses. Large boats delivered staples such as sugar, tea and molasses in exchange for goods that the community produced. Today local farmers set their cows to pasture here, creating a very green, peaceful and fertile river valley - well worth the hike! The
Cape Breton Highlands National Park is accessible within minutes and the large Park offers a wealth of hiking trails, guided tours and sight seeing opportunities along the Cabot Trail. There is an information booth at both entry points into the Park in Cheticamp and Ingonish. We provide a Park pass free of charge for all guests staying a week or more. Whale
tours depart daily from the harbour. We highly recommend scheduling a tour as the vastness of the undeveloped landscape of our wilderness protected areas and our National Park can be seen in great detail by boat. Whales are extremely common in this area and sightings are guaranteed by most operators. You may travel by fishing boat or by zodiac. We recommend going by zodiac as you can cover so much water quickly. Pick a clear day, and ask the operator to take you up the coast to Pollett's Cove. Don’t hesitate… book your stay! “Location, location, location!”
We spent 16 days exploring Nova Scotia and our stay at Cliff Waters Cottage was the highlight of our trip. The photos don’t do the property and location justice. Serene and remote, but also a short drive to the most popular hiking trails in Cape Breton. We loved it!

We sent this message to the owner when we arrived: “Your place is WAY beyond our expectations. Stunning location, tasteful furnishings, warm wood all around the house had everything we needed. Niki was super responsive and gave us ideas for things to do including a beautiful walk down to the beach less than 100 meters from the cottage.
We loved every moment of our stay. A very special place to truly enjoy the beauty of the area. Niki is great to work with for your stay. She was quick to respond to my worries over Hurricane Lee and checked in just enough. Everything is exactly as described in her listing and very clean. We will return.
Property as described in listing. Beautiful view! Had absolutely everything we needed. Close to hiking trails. Host gave us excellent tips for local attractions and precise directions. Recommend this place!

Beautifully sited
Adorable cozy cabin with a panoramic view of the gulf. Incredible ambiance, especially for sunsets.
This property was incredible! It checked off all of our boxes, and even the boxes we didn't anticipate. I would definitely recommend this property to others, and I would stay there again next time I'm in the area.

Awesome house with a stunning location
This house is awesome and very comfortable. The location and view are stunning. Wildlife abounds, just sit and watch from your deck. Niki and Jer are super people and are the best hosts you could want. Very private, yet close to most necessities. If you love nature and the ocean, this house has it all. Cool beach to roam around on just a short walk away.
