Overview

About the property

1Bed Room, 1 Bath, Kitchen, Eating area

If you enjoy being on the beach, Castaway Lodge is a cleverly designed and thoughtfully appointed cottage set back 125 feet from the water’s edge. It is a charming, immaculate and well equipped, air conditioned studio style bungalow situated on a half acre, with your own private beach. Although small and compact, what it lacks in size it makes up for in character. Castaway is the ideal spot for couples who are outdoor oriented and prefer the seclusion that the grounds provide.

While you are more than able to cook and enjoy your meals inside the cottage there is an outdoor grill and large patio table with chairs under a tree shaded grotto. And after your meal you can take a relaxing stroll along the beach or just nap in the hammock under the cover of coconut palms and almond trees.

The lodge is situated in historic Bodden Town, away from the hustle and bustle of Seven Mile Beach but centrally located for exploring the island. Trips to the Mastic Trail, Botanic Park, Crystal Caves, East End, Rum Point and Turtle Farm are easily accessible, but you will find abundant indigenous wildlife right outside your front door! There is a ‘changing station’ for hermit crabs, wild Cayman parrots scouring the sea grape tree for fruit and you may even spy an iguana in the almond tree!

This is the ideal escape to the place you’ve dreamed about for too long. Worry-free, romantic, idyllic, relaxing----a chance to recharge and spend some quality time with your love at this authentic Private Caribbean Getaway!

About Thom Zerhusen

Susan and Thom are originally from Baltimore, Maryland but they met in Cayman. Thom was working as a dive instructor at Don Foster's Dive and Susan was visiting Cayman on a dive vacation. 'We met on a dive trip to Stingray City and the rest is well...history.'

They decided to call Cayman home and bought a dilapidated beach house in the heart of Bodden Town that they renovated and have lived in for over 20 years.

'After Hurricane Ivan destroyed most of Bodden Town and the Island we had to sart all over. We were lucky to find Castaway and decided to renovate the existing structures and make them available to visitors.' The lodge was first to be finished and became available to guest in 2011 and now the cottage is ready too. 'We have tried to make them unique and special and if you come to Castaway we hope you will find our little piece of paradise as magical as we do.'

Guestbook comments from the owner

This was by far the best place to stay. Our Honeymoon was lifted to such heights staying here. The privacy needed for two newly weds and the beauty of the island all met together beautifully at our cozy spot. The hammocks, sun, sand and of course the sea made our trip unforgettable in every way. Sandy regards and wishes, Niki & Rob

Cozy cottage

  • 4 of 5

The cottage was small but comfortable with all the comforts of home, the grounds were private and beautiful, with places to sit in the sun and shade. The view of the sea was wonderful and the beach was clean and sandy.

comfortable and well appointed

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay tremendously. The cottage was very comfortable and fully outfitted with everything needed during our week long stay. The smallest touches of comfort were much appreciated and made the stay all the better. Thom and Susan were wonderful and attentive to any questions or needs that came up. The location was ideal for exploring Grand Cayman. We are dreaming of our next trip to the island already. We highly recommend the cottage for anyone looking to get away from it all and enjoy the beauties of the Caymans.

Fun Beach Escape

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here in June of 2016. We loved it! The location was perfect and Thom was such a great resource when it came to where on the island we should go to snorkel. We would definitely go back!

Great place + great host= great vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Thom and Susan's place. Combining a fantastic location with hosts who are so hospitable is a perfect recipe for a good vacation. They seemed to think of everything- right down to a prepaid cell phone for local calls and available coolers if you want to take a picnic on another beach. We found the right mix of quiet on their private beach, and easy access to attractions on 7 mile beach and Rum Point. If you go, take the stingray city tour but go on a day when there are no ships in port (Or just ask Thom). You can also snorkel right off the beach, or easily drive to several other great spots. There are cool local restaurants and Thom and Susan have great recommendations.

We LOVE Castaway and Thom & Susan

  • 5 of 5

Great place to stay. Comfy, clean, well stocked with all that you need. Beautiful view out your window and right out your backdoor. The landscape is so well done with chairs to relax in here & there in quiet spots. The crab changing station is too cool. Thom and Susan's pets are perfect. I Love Susan's art and Thom's hard work around the cottage. They gave us great ideas of local food places to eat. This is a wonderful place to stay on Grand Cayman while you explore all of Grand Cayman. Thank you Thom and Susan.

Best Tiny House Ever!!!

  • 5 of 5

This is a very welcoming property. Thom & Susan are great host and make you feel at home the cottage has everything you need. The private beach n the views are amazing. Let's you get away from everything in the world. Good location and close drive to everything. They come and clean and rack the beach everyday. Lots of cool things on the property like a hermit crab changing station so fun to watch at night and the cute little lizards. Had a wonderful time. Thank you again Thom and Susan.
