Overview

About the property

The Emerson House at Asgaard Farm is available for your next Adirondack vacation! Enjoy the stunning mountain views that inspired the paintings of Rockwell Kent, explore endless opportunities for outdoor adventure, and experience life on a working farm--all in one unforgettable trip.

The Emerson House was designed and built by Kent in the 1930s, originally for his son Rocky. It eventually became the home of Gladys and Tink Emerson, who managed Asgaard for more than four decades and raised their family here. In recognition of their years of hard work and devotion to the farm, we have carefully renovated their house, so it can be appreciated and enjoyed well into the future.

Today Asgaard is a diversified family farm with a goat dairy and creamery at its core. Revolving around these activities are grass-fed and grass-finished beef together with pastured pork, poultry and eggs. You may be able to help with some of the farm work during your stay in The Emerson House, or you may choose to relax and watch from a distance. In either case, you will surely gain an appreciation for the sustainable agricultural practices that lead to healthy, delicious food. Kent devotees may also soak up the magic of the stunning landscape that inspired many of his paintings as well as the ambiance of his secluded studio, still on the property in its original condition.

Beyond the boundaries of Asgaard, the Adirondack region offers a wide variety of year-round recreational and cultural pursuits. Options range from world-class fly fishing on the Ausable River, Olympic skiing at Whiteface Mountain and spectacular hiking in the High Peaks to current and classic movies at the Champlain Valley Film Society, concerts at the acclaimed Meadowmount School of Music and tours lead by Adirondack Architectural Heritage. The area also boasts several fine restaurants with cuisine featuring local ingredients.

The Emerson House is fully equipped and available throughout the year for weekend and short-term rentals. Accommodations include two bedrooms and a full bath upstairs, a spacious entrance, sunny kitchen, open sitting room and half bath on the ground floor and a full basement with laundry facilities. There is a barbeque grill next to an al fresco dining area. Cheeses, meats, eggs and vegetables produced on the farm can also be provided.

Our regular check-in time is 3:00pm on the day arrival. The check-out time is 10:00am on the day of departure. We can certainly be flexible with these times if there aren't other guests on the front-end or the back-end of your stay.

  • 5 of 5

Rhonda and David make us feel like we were kings and queen.

The Emerson House is full stuffed and extra clean.

Close to hicking, swimming and biking spots, we'll be back soon this fall or next year.

Thx you so much for that, too short, but so relaxing stay!

See you soon :-)

Amazing!!

  • 5 of 5

I almost don't want to write a review because I don't want more people to know about this amazing place. But I feel the owners deserve the kudos if it helps them. This is an absolute gem. Beautiful house, amazing property, great place to relax or explore the farm, or a short drive to tons of things like Wilmington Beach, Whiteface Mountain, Lake Placid and even Keene. Also did a day trip to the Wild Center. But coming back each night to the Emerson House was the highlight. Thank you for sharing your amazing property with visitors!!!

Fantastic Rental

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay at the Emerson House. It's beautifully renovated and kept impeccably clean. The kitchen is wonderful and we cooked dinner here every night instead of eating out. We enjoyed campfires and stargazing in the evenings. David and Rhonda are great hosts. Our kids loved getting to help out with little tasks on the farm. I loved having a washer and dryer on hand because I went home with clean clothes in the suitcases instead of a mountain of dirty laundry. Hands down the best rental we've stayed at through VRBO!

A week of renewal

  • 5 of 5

So grateful to Rhonda and David for an experience to break away from the hustle and bustle of New York - found Asgaard Farm almost by accident - but after spending time there could see that it was NO coincidence. There was plenty to do on the farm from hiking, observing the animals, cooking, and late night fire pit under the amazing Adirondack sky. Also striking distance from Lake Placid, Plattsburgh, Burlington, and Historic Sites like Fort Ticonderoga. The house was comfortable, two bedrooms, 1 1/2 baths, and an outdoor shower, great porch and sitting areas so enough room to be close or find a place for a little solitude. Take advantage of the home grown food; beef, pork, chickens and goats. Would highly recommend.

Amazing family vacation

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful 4 days at the Emerson House. My husband, 2 daughters and I loved the house itself so much, as well as the beautiful farm and surrounding area. Dave gave us a great tour of the farm and we loved learning about the history of the farm and Rockwell Kent, the original owner. The Emerson House is so well maintained and fully stocked with the essentials. We also had so much exploring the Adirondecks - hiking Mt. Jo, going to Lake Placid and swimming at Jay Bridge in the river! We also loved visiting the baby goats, picking fresh veggies, and having s'mores by the fire pit every night! We will definitely come back!

We are located in the town of Jay and the hamlet of Au Sable Forks, a charming spot in the heart of the high peaks region of the Adirondack Park. Just a short drive to Lake Placid, Whiteface Mountain and the great hiking of Keene Valley, our location gives you the benefit of all these exciting places but in a calmer, more serene environment. Staying on a small, sustainable farm will also allow you to get close to the growing local food scene in the Adirondacks.
