Classic hotel in a great location. They were able to check us in early which was very appreciated. Beautiful lobby and welcoming bar. Very comfortable bed and decent size room for the city.

Historic Property Restored to Perfection

I loved everything about my stay. The property is beautiful and filled with history. Staff are friendly and accommodating. Food and bar are high quality. Location is central to all attractions but on a quiet street allowing for a good night’s sleep.

NYC Retirement and 25th Anniversary

This hotel was charming from its historic story and the characters who were connected to it to its accommodations. The staff was very friendly and took care of us in every way. Nancy, the housekeeper assigned to our room was the best! So warm and welcoming! We do not typically stay in this part of town, but found this location quiet and near everything we planned to do or within easy access of transportation. Though Hamlet VIII, the Cat Concierge, was recovering from an illness, we did get a short glimpse of him!

We loved the location! Close to everything we wanted, but tucked away enough to be quiet in the evening. The staff was super friendly and went above and beyond to make sure we felt welcome. Check-in was quick and easy. We even got into our room before the official check-in time because our room was ready. The building is historically interesting, but so is the plumbing! We had to run the hot water for over 5 mins the first day before there was water warm/hot enough to shower in. After that, the hot water was available within a reasonable amount of time. Not sure why we had problems the first time we tried the shower. Other than that, we enjoyed 3 lovely nights at the Algonquin.

Lovely historic hotel in Manhattan. Rooms are as described. Small showers and bathrooms. NO Refrigerator or Microwave. Had to throw out our leftovers from Carmines Italian restaurant. Beautiful architecture. Every room door has a quote on it. Old Mail Chute visible on each floor. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. The Blue Bar is very nice. Didn't get to see Hamlet the Hotel Cat. He was on vaca too. Hotel location is central to Times Square and Broadway theaters. Fabulous Dah'ling!

Never again!

The room photo does not show the very old, noisy window air conditioning unit. The unit cooled unevenly. The very cramped shower had a strong mildew smell.Housekeeping was good considering how poor the room was.One gets the impression that they are living off the history and location of the hotel. The lobby is okay, but the rooms are old and worn out looking. I will definitely not stay at the Algonquin again.
