About the property

Finca Good Life is a small working goat dairy farm...that just happens to be on top of a mountain. We make our own cheese and fresh natural yogurt. You are welcome to participate in our daily activities or just relax on your patio enjoying the view. We share our lives with geese, chickens, three dogs and a 'barn cat', who doesn't know he is a barn cat:-) We also grow avocados, have an organic garden and greenhouse and are slowing working towards a self sustainable lifestyle.

Our property is suitable for honeymooners and couples of all ages.

About Michele Martin

My husband Ray and I retired to Costa Rica June 2009 to enjoy a simpler life. We waved goodbye to Corporate America and said hola to paradise! We have embraced our new home with passion and enthusiasm. A farmers lifestyle somehow was just fits!

Michele Martin purchased this cabin in 2009

Why Michele Martin chose Costa Rica

We built our cabina in 2010 for friends and family. Finca Good Life is a beautiful small hobby farm in the mountains of Penas Blancas. We have breathtaking views in every direction....we bought the property on our first visit to Costa Rica! We knew the moment we planted our feet on the mountain....we wanted to spend the rest of our lives right here.

What makes this cabin unique

Returning to Georgia and leaving our newly found love behind was truly sad but the dreams of a life to come was delightful. Those dreams didn't include goats, geese, chickens, dogs and a cat mind you, but all that has evolved has been a wonderful experience. You can be just about as active as you want to be. can just sit back and listen to the sounds of nature.

Everything about Finca Good Life is breath taking. From the drive in until the time you leave you are surrounded by amazing views that seem to be constantly changing. The hosts, Michelle and Ray are wonderful people that will help you settle in quickly. They are very knowledgeable of the area and are wonderful to talk to. The goat cheese and milk were the best I have tasted. The cabina is equipped with everything you need to prepare and enjoy a great meal. There is a large comfortable bed and the sitting areas are all well situated to best enjoy the views. Just be sure to get some groceries and supplies before going up the first time. There is a peace at the top of this mountain that isn't easily achieved.. We look forward to going back!!

Only have my cell phone to type, but since I first communicated with Michelle I sensed her laidback easy going approach!! We arrived the day after St. Patrick's and I asked if at my expense she could go buy some chocolates for my kids and hide them as per a family tradition and to grab us some fruit to eat. All was done and she did so graciously!!!

The place is in immaculate condition inside and out and yes the views are spectacular!! We saw many birds including 2 toucans a few times! The deck is a great place to watch for them. I walked down the hill with her dogs a couple of times and so enjoyed them and the cat. My daughter loved the goats and guinea hens!!

We loved exploring the area and highly recommend Chumi's restaurant just a short 7 min drive away. Mirta there is so lovely even with our non-existent Spanish. Saw 2 parrots in a tree there and many other birds. Also ice cream and popsicled from the tienda down from the house is cheap and worth the walk!!

So yes, loved Ray and Michelle and everything about what my daughter said was like being in heaven when the fog rolled in one morning exposing just some greenery.

If I had a computer I would go on longer but you get the idea. A great place to explore the Central Valley area. Even heard about rock climbing g and a great swimming hole in nearby Cachi one could look into. Thanks for a wonderful stay and for the great sharing of insight from such s lovely couple.

Paradise on a mountain top

  • 5 of 5

I stayed for 3 nights in early March - my only regret was not staying longer! Michelle and Ray are very sweet people, warm, friendly, and helpful - available when you feel like talking, but otherwise busily attending their little farm. The cabin is splendid - with a view of the Salamanca' Mountains and the villages down in the valley south, with very comfortable furniture and bed, and a nice kitchen! Walk out the front door and you look north to 2 volcanos! Really a spectacular place, with a ton of birds and wildlife (and I do mean wild!).And the farm has goats, geese, ducks, chickens, dogs and a grey cat! When I arrived there was goat milk, goat cheese and eggs in the fridge! But be forewarned: the farm and cabin are up about a mile from the edge of the village of Cachi, up a narrow and windy road, so make sure to bring plenty of food and drink with you...because there is no way you are going to hike down to the local store. Also, because it is high up, it can get cool at night, so bring layers! Good Life Finca is an awesome spot that I strongly and highly recommend you go stay at. And cheers to Ray and Michelle for the lovely place they have created! ~ Dr. Bob

Breathtaking Views!

  • 5 of 5

The views from our cabin were awesome! From the front door we had views of Volcan Irazu and Volcan Turrialba (which was still smoking!). From the terrace in back we had breathtaking views of the canyon and mountains on the other side. The cabin itself was clean, well-appointed and just very comfortable. It was wonderful to take walks on the farm (with the dogs), and see the goats and other animals. There were also so many birds that came to visit in the surrounding trees. Bring your camera and binoculars! We took days trips to Volcan Irazu , Guayabo, Cartago and points of interest in the surrounding Orosi Valley. The Orosi Valley is truly a beautiful area with some of the most scenic vistas. The owners are most gracious and friendly. We enjoyed our time visiting with them and also enjoyed--and appreciated--the eggs, milk, and wonderful cheeses. We would love to come back again and highly recommend this experience. You must have a 4-wheel drive!!

Mountain paradise!

  • 5 of 5

Finca Good Life is an amazing opportunity to bask in the warm hospitality of Ray and Michele whilst reaping the benefits of beautiful views and fantastic facilities close to great national parks and the pretty villages of Cachi and Orosi. I can't say anything that hasn't been said before..........the views are truly spectacular and you have a massive balcony to take full advantage of them. The casita has everything you need (and all of superior quality) and Ray and Michele's generosity extends to delicious coffee, eggs, goats milk and goats cheese. We came ready with ingredients to take full advantage of this and enjoyed every bite. The farm is beautiful and it is so special to spend time with the goats and exploring to see all the great things they are doing up above the clouds in their garden and farm which are bursting with life. I went with my husband and our 10 month baby just to relax and spend some quality time together and we found the perfect spot. We are really looking forward to going back and I'm hoping to take my parents in December. Ray and Michele are truly inspirational and we recommend this home whole-heartedly to anyone looking to experience the lesser known beauty of Costa Rica's central valley. Thank you both for sharing this with us!

Great getaway

  • 5 of 5

I had a few extra days in Costa Rica and didn't want to spend them in San Jose. Finca Good Life was a great escape from the city. The views were fantastic; the cheese and eggs in the fridge were awesome; and I enjoyed a couple of days just relaxing, reading, and wandering around the property with the dogs. The casita was clean, well-furnished, and extremely pleasant. Ray and Michele were gracious and very hospitable. It was a welcome respite in the midst of a busy trip. Thanks so much and I hope to stop in again.
