About Maire MacDermott
I took over the care of this historic house in 1995. I have a great interest of Irish history and culture I have enjoyed hugely looking after this beautiful house and grounds. I have taken a big interest particularly in the history. I very much enjoyed researching the lives of the previous owners of Nile Lodge, especially the Captain and Commander in Nelsons fleet who was the first occupant this house and the later owners, one of whom was equally colorful. I love walking the old streets of this city and looking at the evidence of the medieval architecture. I also enjoy exploring the nearby countryside and love finding special places to explore and enjoy again with my family and friends. My family are particularly in love with Blackrock and the diving tower there. They also love jogging on the prom, especially in the early morning.
Maire MacDermott purchased this House in 1942
Why Maire MacDermott chose Claddagh
This house is a place I have always loved. I am very happy in the location near to the sea and city center and have long enjoyable walks near the sea taking in the beauty of Galway Bay. This house was part of the social life of the people of Galway for many years and it is wonderful to see guests enjoy the comfort that it gives.
