About the Property

Georgian city house, 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms. Off road parking, Wi Fi, Gardens.

Nile Lodge is one of the most exclusive private rental houses in the City of Galway. It has a wonderful, rich history showing details from Nelson's time through the past 200 years.
This beautiful house which originally had a sea view, stands on over an acre of mature, beautifully landscaped gardens which provide a wonderful green oasis within minutes of the center of Galway. There is a high-walled garden to the rear of the property which is enjoyable for children and adults alike.
Built in 1807 by a Captain and Commander in Nelson's fleet , offers an unusually high standard of elegant and spacious accommodation in one of the most imposing and historic private residences in the City of Galway.
It offers luxurious self-catering accommodation for up to six guests in three bedrooms, two with super-king size beds, a further superking can be configured into two singles. There is a fourth bedroom available to rent if required. It linked by a private stairs is located on the lower floor, it has its own private shower room and is available at additional cost.
The property is perfectly located down the road from the historic Galway City, being close to the finest restaurants, live music events and pubs with traditional Irish music.
Nile Lodge is perfectly located for taking day trips to picturesque Connemara, with its rugged scenery of hills and lakes. The Cliffs of Moher, the Burren, the Aran Islands are all within easy reach. It is on the famous Wild Atlantic Way and within a mile of the river Corrib and a just a few miles away from Lough Corrib.
Galway, with its famous horse racing events, the arts and literary festivals is hugely popular with both Irish people and visitors to Ireland alike. The wonderful seaside promenade - the longest in Europe, enjoyed every day by joggers and walkers - is located just down the road from the house. The panoramic sea views of Galway Bay can be enjoyed while exercising on the promenade or you can watch the people on the diving boards at Blackrock.
There is an 18 hole golf course in Salthill and a further 3 golf courses within a fifteen minute drive from the house.
There is plenty of game and coarse fishing in nearby Lough Corrib, and the river Corrib, with the Salmon Weir is just one mile from the house.
Please Note.
It can be of great help to guests to know that I am a family doctor.
I see private patients, by appointment only, on the lower ground floor of Nile Lodge on two evenings and during the day on weekends. You are very welcome to attend, or a home visit by the GP at the weekend is available if you or your family or guests become unwell. I also arrange hospital consultant referrals.
It is a small practice and my consultation rooms have a separate entrance and are completely private.

Owner info

Year Purchased: 1995

About the owner: Nile Lodge has been part of the MacDermott family since 1942. I took over the care of this historic house in 1995. I have a great interest of Irish history and culture I have enjoyed hugely looking after this beautiful house and grounds. I have been very interested in the history of this house and have been exceptionally fortunate to have had Dr Nick Slope, Chairman of the Nelson Society undertook a large part of this research into the Captain and Commander who owned this house, in addition to historical researcher, my nephew Jack McGarry , who has presented the history for the Open day Houses of Architectural Importance in Galway . Mr Paul McGinley, famous Galway historian has provided information and given talks on some of the amazing people who later owned the house. My contribution is one of helping guests from all over the world enjoy this special place.

Why the Owner Chose Salthill, Co. Galway, Ireland:
This house is a local landmark and is one of the most important historical houses in Galway City. My mothers love of antique furniture and skilled workmanship was passed down. My own four daughters have the bug too!

The Unique Benefits at this Villa:
Location, space, privacy, luxury, walking distance to most major attractions.
