LUTSEN LAKEHOUSE on LAKE SUPERIOR
Welcome and thank you for visiting the LUTSEN LAKEHOUSE listing page! My name is David, and along with my wife Brodie, we are the owners and hosts of this special property. For over 15 years we have had the joy of sharing Lutsen Lakehouse with guests from across the country and hearing how much they love the cabin and were mesmerized by the panoramic view and many moods of Lake Superior.
As you watch Lake Superior's thundering waves crash against the ledgerock shoreline, northern lights dance across the sky, and the sun or moon rise over the big lake they call Gitchigummi, you may be reminded of the Psalmist’s words, "The heavens declare the glory of God and the earth shows His handiwork.”
Inside, you will appreciate the comforts of a beautiful, professionally-cleaned, 3-bedroom, 2.5-bath home. Unwind by a crackling fire in the massive wood-burning fieldstone fireplace, enjoy a meal from the fully-equipped kitchen and family times around the handcrafted dining room table, and then let the sound of Lake Superior’s waves lull you to sleep.
Enjoy all this and be just a few minutes from Lutsen Ski Resort, Superior Hiking Trail, Superior National Golf Course, North Shore cross-country ski trails, and a short drive to Grand Marais and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
OUR PROMISE
You and your family/group deserve and can expect an excellent stay at Lutsen Lakehouse, from accurate representation of the property, pricing, and policies to a home cleaned to the highest standards by our long-time caretaker to prompt communication and attention to any needs that arise.

You are encouraged to read on for more details about the property. And of course the “photos are worth a thousand words.” We look forward to answering any questions and being your host at Lutsen Lakehouse on Lake Superior!

MORE ABOUT LUTSEN LAKEHOUSE…
IMPORTANT POLICIES:
* Two members of your group are 35+ years old. We prefer children to be 10+ years old but this is not mandatory if they are well-supervised and not in a destructive stage.
* No one outside your approved group is allowed on the property, except with advance owner permission.
* No dogs or other pets, no smoking, no parties, and no behavior that disturbs our neighbors, such as loud voices or music.
PRICING, DISCOUNTS, and MORE: Pricing is based on time of year and total number of guests. "Host fee" is the cleaning fee. 10% discount for 7+ night stays. 2 night minimum stay.
HISTORY and DECOR: The home was built in 1994 and we purchased it as our family cabin in 1999. It is available year-round to respectful guests seeking a quiet North Shore vacation. You will find pictures, poems, and other items around the house that represent our family and Christian faith.
LOCATION: Lutsen Lakehouse is conveniently located about two miles east of Lutsen Ski Resort. Grand Marais is 17 miles east and Tofte 10 miles west. Duluth, MN is 90 miles down the shore to the west. The distance from Minneapolis to Lutsen Lakehouse is 248 miles (4 hour drive).
SETTING: The 2200 square foot home sits on two acres and faces south over 200' of Lake Superior coastline. There is no home on the neighboring property to the west and plenty of distance and trees from our neighbors to the east. There is also ample buffer between the home and North Shore 61 with a service road and long driveway.
VIEW/LAKESHORE: The home features lots of windows with panoramic views of Lake Superior. Water’s edge is close with easy access. The ledgerock shoreline is perfect for campfires and enjoying the view.
DECKS: A deck extends along the lakeside (south side) and the west side of the house, with gliders, deck chairs, and a large table for relaxing and taking in the view. The covered west side deck off the dining room and kitchen is where the Weber grill is located. There is also a large deck off the upstairs west bedroom.
BEDROOMS and BATHROOMS: All bedrooms have great views of the lake. The main level master bedroom has a queen bed and full bathroom. Upstairs, there are two bedrooms with four twin beds and a half bath. There is an additional full bathroom on the main level.
LIVING ROOM, DINING ROOM, KITCHEN: All three rooms are open and connected with dramatic views of the lake with beautiful (and soft!) wide-plank pine floors. The LIVING ROOM features a massive wood-burning fieldstone fireplace (complimentary split firewood is available). The DINING ROOM has a large, round table perfect for family meals and games. The KITCHEN is fully equipped, with Sub-Zero fridge, double wall ovens, gas stovetop, microwave, toaster, Keurig Duo coffee maker, dishwasher, and plenty of cookware and dishes (full list kitchen items available upon request).
AUDIO/VISUAL: Samsung 40” 4K UHD LED TV in the living room with AT&T TV Now streaming service and a DVD player. The sound system with Bose speakers plays CDs, FM/AM radio, and has a AUX port to plug in your portable audio device (you'll need to bring your own 1/8' male-to-male cable).
INTERNET: Free high-speed WiFi is available in the home.
LAUNDRY: Laundromat is available one mile west in Lutsen. For extended stays, clean linens and towels can be arranged with the home’s caretakers.

Dad and Mom started our family's love affair with the North Shore when they took their honeymoon up to Lake Superior and the Gunflint Trail way back in 1954.
In the 1990's, we started taking regular trips up the North Shore, staying in various rental homes from Lutsen to Grand Marais. And then in 1999, we finally found a beautiful cabin on Lake Superior to call our own just down the road from Lutsen. We call it Lutsen Lakehouse. The cabin has been and continues to be a special home away from home for us.
Dad and Mom have four children and seven grandchildren ... sixteen in all in the family. All of us love to head up to the cabin (usually not at the same time!) to hike and ski and take canoe trips into the Boundary Waters. Most of all though, we love sitting by a roaring fire and watching the many moods of Lake Superior.
We enjoy sharing Lutsen Lakehouse with others who appreciate and respect the home and the North Shore as we do. We have many fond memories from our times there and hope you can visit and make some too!
The Wheaton Family
P.S. Be sure to take a look at our other property on VRBO—Stone House Farm in Jordan, MN (VRBO # 1908932). The unique farmhouse and 115 private acres provide a special rural getaway that is close to the Twin Cities.
