Relaxing and peaceful

  • 5 of 5

This property was so beautiful and serene. The house is wonderfully close to the hot springs and lots of places to hike, and we absolutely loved the incredible views from the porch. Shirley the property owner was a wonderful hostess and we felt totally welcome to relax as we pleased. The house itself is lovely and full of comfortable furnishings and the kitchen had all the tools we needed to prepare meals. I can't wait to get another opportunity to visit!

Shirley and Joaquin were very welcoming and were there to greet us when we arrived. The home is beautiful native adobe equipped with EVERYTHING imaginable that a person might need. Had a little problem with flying ants for a couple of days but it was taken care of as soon as it could be. Very conveniently located to Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs and also to the Rio Grande River where we went white water rafting. The peaceful atmosphere was amazing and we were able to kick back and relax for 3 days. Thank you Shirley for everything. You were wonderful.

Peace, Serenity, Beauty, Kindness AND One Awesome Dog!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying here! The location was perfect ... not too far from the main road, no neighbors (except for Shirley, who is awesome). Beautiful views. Beautiful property. That furniture! And Joaquin, the dog that everybody loves. We were able to hike right out the door. On the day it snowed (for which we were totally unprepared), we drove down the hill to the local restaurant, and across the street to the Ojo Caliente resort. We could have walked.

Where has this place been all my life? My husband and I loved it here, and immediately felt at home. I would recommend this rental to anyone. Shirley is an amazing woman and her love of this home shines through. Yes, there is a multitude of crosses and other religious symbols, but although I am far from observant I found it all spiritual and comforting rather than oppressive.

Try it, you will love it too! New Mexico is indeed the land of enchantment. We will be back.

Nice surprise!

  • 4 of 5

We needed a long weekend before school started and I looked all over southern and western Colorado and was unable to find anything available, accepting of dogs, and reasonable! We found Shirley's place and I have to admit to being leery at first.

The outside photos are not impressive and the owner is right next door. Not an issure as it turns out! Shirley is a hands off, lovely, hostess. The floor plan is very open, lots of natural light, high ceilings, warm colors, tastefully decorated. Everything we needed was right there. She thought of absolutely everything. She actually made most of the spanish Colonial furnishings.

The house is on top of a bluff. The back deck is huge and the views are amazing. Our kids toasted hotdogs and marshmallows in the fireplace on the deck while we stargazed. There is a bedroom upstairs that has to be accessed via an outside staircase. My husband and I were up there the first night and the breezes and ceiling fan cooled it beautifully. Not a great fit for people with small kids or tiny bladders but, when we traded the following nights with our teenaged boy, he was in heaven!

Absolutely Recommend this place. Thank you, Shirley. It was just what we needed.

Ideal location, beautiful views

  • 5 of 5

My jaw dropped when I walked into this house for the first time. It is beautiful. The furniture and many other features were handcrafted by the owner. Located at the top of hill, at the end of a winding driveway, you are guaranteed spectacular views; and there is a large deck from which to enjoy them. The house has an open floor plan and is very comfortable whether you are watching TV or taking in the vistas. The kitchen is well stocked and has gorgeous native flagstone counter tops. The dining table easily accommodates 8. A wood stove and outdoor fireplace add to the charm. The main sleeping area is a hidden alcove in the great room. The upstairs bedroom provides more privacy as well as windows facing east and west. This bedroom does not have a private bath and is accessed by an outside staircase, but neither of these takes away from the charm of the room. The owner was so welcoming and eager to assure our comfort. A great local restaurant is at the foot of the driveway. The house is situated perfectly for visits to Ojo Caliente and Abiquiu, as well as Santa Fe, Los Alamos and Taos. Highly recommended, can't wait to go back.

Anniversary Travelers

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I decided to take a little road trip into neighboring New Mexico and came across Ojo Caliente as an off-the-beaten-path place to respite for a while. We were not disappointed in our stay at this wonderful house. The building seems newly constructed, has great views from 3 directions (the owner lives in the house directly to the rear), affords much more privacy than more traditional arrangements, has great furnishings, and the kitchen and bathroom are extremely well stocked with everything a traveler could want. It's a bargain for the price. If we ever have reason to be in the area again we would rent here without hesitation.
