Dick and Marge are two active, outdoor loving people. They live part time in California and part time in the main house on this property, Angler A. It's tough to keep up with them between the jeeping, hiking, skiing, or snowshoeing. When they are at home, they are usually entertaining a crowd or cooking up some delicious delicacies after a long day of playing outside.
Suzette purchased this studio in 2012
Dick and Marge purchased this unique 6+ acre property 2 miles north of Buena Vista, and in 2012 they completed construction of a rental allowing others to enjoy this ideal location.
The Arkansas River borders on the West offering a bounty of brown and rainbow trout. Four mile Creek wanders through the property providing a nice stroll.
Multiple trails just steps away with rock formations surrounding the property provide fun excursions. The historical and abandoned Midland Railroad trail borders on the East tempting great exploring.
Road-bike to town and beyond or mountain bike on CR 371 through the famous Midland Tunnels or up CR 375 for numerous challenges.
Skiing, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are just 30 to 45 minutes away.
Relax, taking in the magnificent views of Mt. Princeton and Mt. Colombia and the beautiful rock formations surrounding the property. One may even see wildlife passing through.
My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights just to getaway from the kids for a few days. Awesome trip in every way. The place is a perfect space for a couple. Cozy, small but roomy, well furnished, etc. We regularly saw mule deer, went hiking behind the house to watch the sunset, walked along the river (too cold to fish but would be great trout fishing). Cuddled up and watched a movie each night (yes, there is Blu-ray player). Suzette was great to work with and very responsive.
Buena Vista is a town that offers so much more than a typical town with less than 3000 people in it. We ate out every lunch and dinner and didn't have a single bad meal. Awesome food. Awesome property. Awesome trip.
This is a garage apartment that was fairly well done. Fishing was pretty good. The wifi was adequate but nothing spectacular.
We were not big fans of the shower and the microwave has blown a fuse before out arrival.
The owner fixed that shortly and it was not a real issue.
If you have a reason to be here for business or pleasure, this place is certainly nice enough to consider home for a couple of days.
We were looking for a place to stay that featured the natural splendor of Colorado without the crowds and tourist traps you might find in the well trodden locations. We also wanted a place where we wouldn't have to leave the property to get lost in nature.
I'm happy to say it delivered all that and then some.
The apartment is newly renovated and designed to evoke modern elegance. It has a pleasant rain shower and the bathroom is an open design. There is a wall separating the toilet from the shower but no shower door or curtain. This maintains the elegance of the rest of the studio, but in the interest of utility I would prefer the shower have a door. There was nothing to keep the heat from the shower in, so I was slightly chilly. But I like a hot shower so I doubt most people would even notice. The bed and couches are comfortable and there are board games, books, puzzles and satellite TV for entertainment. The kitchen cabinetry is gorgeous and seamlessly incorporates the doors for the under-counter fridge and trash receptacle. There is no stovetop, oven or dishwasher. It has an excellent microwave that seems to double an oven. We knew about the amenities of the kitchen so we came prepared with appropriate food.
We found that the grounds around the studio were the best part of the place. There is a trail that leads back into a menagerie of stunning rock formations, wildflower fields and a winding, shimmering stream. There is a rock that looks like a couch next to the water where we spent some time relaxing. There are acres of natural beauty behind the apartment to explore without ever leaving the property.
Truthfully we could have never left its confines and felt we had our fill of Colorado's beauty. But we did tear ourselves away to investigate Buena Vista and the area.
Buena Vista has a charming downtown with shops, bars a terrific whiskey distillery (Deerhammer). There is a pretty good brewery and a fantastic ice cream shop with a fire pit, around which we spent a lot of time visiting with locals and other travelers. There is rafting and kayaking next to a park in town. Avoid the new side of town near the river though. It looks like someone dropped a plastic, Barbie village there.
Make sure to check out the Jumpin' Good Goat Dairy North of town and drive over to Twin Lakes. It's a cool old mining town. Eight miles west of there is the La Plata Trailhead. Do at least part of that hike. There is a waterfall in a narrow canyon early on.
This property is great. Beautiful view for sunsets. Very nicely appointed w/high end finishes. Clean , comfortable and cozy. Had everything I needed- towels, cleaning supplies, hairdryer, sundries. Close to town.- Cute town to explore- great places to eat, hike, explore. Perfect for a getaway. Was able to go hiking, white water rafting, horseback riding, visit hot springs. This was my first experience w VRBO, would highly recommend it.
We truly enjoyed our stay in this charming studio condo! Great location, comfy bed, great mountain views! The host family was so thoughtful and friendly, with great recommendations for hiking and dining. Modern bathroom with rain showerhead. Be prepared if you do not want to always get your hair wet. Also, the lighting was not bright enough for getting dressed in the mornings.
Buena Vista is a perfect summer mountain vacation area!
My wife and I had a great time staying at the Angler A. The location is a good blend of being close to town but far enough away that you escape the noises of traffic and have nice views of nature and wildlife. We are both adventurous nature types so the hiking and fishing were a lot of fun. It was nice to have the rushing river just a short walk from the porch and a great view of the mountains in the morning and night. The near by white water rafting was an absolute blast and I wish we could have done it over and over and over.... It was also very nice to walk into a super clean and well kept property. Checking in and out was easy and pie.
Located in the heart of the Arkansas River Valley, surrounded by 14,000 ft Collegiate Peaks, you can enjoy all the river activities, hiking, biking, fishing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and so much more. This home is just outside of town, giving you quiet and privacy on the river only a short bike ride or drive away from great restaurants and activities.
Sit on your patio and watch the deer drop by every evening to enjoy a snack just yards away as the sun sets. Take a walk down Lovers' Lane, your own personal trail through the property and take in the sights and sounds of the river.
