There were 10 of us in this lovely, clean home and there was still plenty of room (and bathrooms). The home is well kept, with enough linens and towels for all. The dining area even sat all of us each night for dinner - we did use 2 TV tables for the 12 year olds. The deck is a beautiful place to watch and listen to the loons and osprey each morning and each evening. Fishing was great fun and so was the kayaking - I think Green lake is now my favorite lake - the huge rocks are wonderful and inviting to explore, and the view from the deck is so peaceful. The little sand beach - a short hike from the house is so quiet - a great place to read a book or swim in the oh- so- clean water. One week is not long enough to enjoy the area and all it has to offer ! Morgan was very helpful and always returned my calls. She and Mr Cole could not have been more gracious hosts - after all, 10 people in your beautiful home can be scary! I would recommend this home especially if you have kids, ours had a ball, and my 84 year old mom loved the deck with its chairs each morning as she sipped her coffee and read her books in the beautiful Maine air.
We rented this home for a family reunion to celebrate our mom's birthday. It was perfect! The house was clean, well prepared for renters, well stocked with linens, kitchen supplies, bbq grill, fishing poles and plenty of space for all 9 of us to move about without being in each other's way. The property is GORGEOUS and sits directly on green lake. The dock was fabulous and we had 2 canoes and one kayak delivered to the house (The Athletic Shop in Blue Hills) for the duration of our stay:HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! The sounds of the loons and bald eagle sightings proved to be more worthwhile than going to acadia national park to see wildlife!
I highly recommend this spectacular getaway if you are looking for an escape from the fast pace of life. It is about 30 minutes to a grocery store, so stock up before you trek in. It's about 60-80 minutes to Bar Harbor/Acadia. We ordered lobsters from Trenton Lobster pound, they will cook and crack them for you and wrap them to go! I highly recommend that on your way home after a day in Acadia. It's just over the bridge onto MDI.
The only drawback is that the swimming area right off the property is not very accessible, but if you take a short 5 minute walk down Scott's Neck Road away from Margarita Way, there is a lovely swimming area where we brought tubes and even canoed to. We also just jumped in the lake off rocks during our canoe adventures. The lake is VERY clean.
Morgan called us on the second day to check in on how our stay was, a very nice welcoming touch! The house is also well stocked with family games and even a few movies. The DirectTV was out and the internet is spotty (no wifi), but who needs electronics when you are sitting in such natural beauty! There is also a fire pit by the lake.
While we were there, the toilet broke on the first day. We immediately called Morgan who sent someone out within an hour. He temporarily fixed it, but then it broke again permanently the next day. The plumber came out twice, but it was from normal wear and tear. The quick response was most appreciated given the distance the house is away from the main road! We noticed a slight mold smell upon entering the house, but that was probably from being closed up from the previous renters. We opened all the windows and it all aired out without a problem.
I would absolutely rent this property again! ENJOY!!!
This house is absolutely gorgous with room for many people. It was highly comfortable an immaculately clean with everything we needed for the week. Under an hour from Acadia, and most of that is the bumpy road to the cottage, we hiked all day and spent the nights at home recovering by the fire.
Enjoyed a mini-family reunion of 2 families (8 members in all) from different parts of the country. The house very comfortably handled 2 sets of parents and 4 children aged 15-20. Excellent living space and sleeping space for us all, as we encountered 2 rainy days and cool evenings in late June. We thoroughly enjoyed making use of the kitchen, deck, and boat dock. Renting kayaks to explore Green Lake a must! We rented from Tom/Scotty's Kayak rentals and had 2 double kayaks delivered for our week stay. Enjoyed every aspect of being on the Lake - loons, duck families, incredible view of the stars at night from the deck.
Most days our group took advantage of the activities in Acadia National Park. We recommend carefully planning your stay for the driving - grocery stores and restaurants in Ellsworth are half hour drive from the house (we stocked up at a Hannaford in Brewer on our way in). Trips into Acadia - 1 hour each way. Being right on Green Lake was worth the extra driving to activities that were away from the Lake. Some of the Ellsworth attractions we enjoyed were Timber Tina's Lumberjack Show (great for kids of all ages), the Union River Lobster Pot, and Morton Moo's ice cream. Also loved the many attractions in Acadia and Bar Harbor. Returning to the peace of the Lake, a late evening kayak paddle or cocktails on the deck, after great Park adventures made for an awesome family vacation!
The owners were very responsive and considerate of our needs and our comfort during our stay. We asked about having a campfire one evening (there had been plenty of rain earlier in the week), and the owner helped us by calling the local fire dept for permission. Idyllic spot!
We (2 parents & 2 daughters in their early 20's) had a fantastic time staying at this home for a week to combine a lake vacation of kayaking/canoeing/blueberry picking with daily trips to Acadia National Park/Bar Harbor (about 55 minute drive). Green Lake is wonderfully VERY quiet. House is right on the lake with a dock and 12 private wooded acres. You don't hear or see anyone else. Kitchen and bathrooms were very well equipped and supplied and house has TV/DVD. Borderline cellphone/internet access (worked in certain areas in & around house) due to isolated vacation area. Boat rental company on the lake a few miles away delivered rented kayaks & canoe for the week. Nearest town, Ellsworth, about 20 minutes drive, is on the way to Bar Harbor, so we passed through it each day and could stop for supplies and once or twice stopped there for pleasant restaurants. (Of course, Bar Harbor has MANY restaurants/shops, and we would often have dinner on the way home from a day at Acadia). For larger groups, owner might want to consider a larger water heater. The house works well and the owner was very personable and accommodating. -A very enjoyable vacation, with most days busy at Acadia/Bar Harbor and restful time on/at the lake in mornings or evenings and one or two days.
My wife and twin toddlers had a great week on Green Lake. This property is very well maintained and lives up to the photos. The house is on a quiet corner of the lake surrounded by forest, so you won't see or hear neighbors (except for the loons). Swimming in front is possible, though a bit muddy. The private beach down the road is pristine and we had it to ourselves each time we went. Wild blueberries in the front yard and easy access to seafood on the coast will keep you well nourished. Close enough to serve as a launch pad for day-trips to Acadia.
Tranquility yet near the action and such popular tourist designations as Acadia, Bar Harbor, Ellsworth, and Bangor are within an hour's easy drive
