My family of eight had a particularly enjoyable week at Sea Esta. The bedrooms were comfy and spacious, each with its own bath. It is tough for an older family with health issues to move personal gear and food up two flights of steps but that's not the house problem. The living area on the top floor is wonderful with a large kitchen, dining room table, and room to enjoy the living room. It is an awesome view from the third floor. The house does need some attention to worn areas. Third floor stairs could use carpet/runner so not slipping hazard. I'm sure that renting at end of summer will mean more issues. Several items that I called about were no a/c on arrival for the second floor, no coffee grinder (critical for us!), ants at front door and kitchen counter, broken ice machine, security code limiting show choices on the only big screen tv, hot tub has very limited jet power & broken parts. There were only 2 beach chairs that were usable. The back outside areas had broken, discarded items that I assume were from previous guests that don't get removed by the mgmt company. Nearly all of the bedroom TVs & living room tv need upgrading because they are not flat screen, small, and they are very difficult to use, some having 2 remotes & no instructions. Must be tech savvy to operate. The pool is fabulous but the area needs a picnic table in the only shaded spot. The third floor deck could use shade so it can be used earlier in the day. Response time was good from Corolla Classic Vacations (CCV) to get tech to fix HVAC for second floor and to have someone bring a grinder. They did nothing about ants or ice maker which we turned off instead of it just running water. They sent a tech for the cable security code issue but he left without telling us the problem. Had to call again to learn only the owner can talk with cable co and they would remind maintenance to contact them. When it did not get removed, we wrote to owner directly who quickly took care of getting the code removed. The gas for the grill ran out and we were told it would be 1.5 hours to swap out. With our meal on the grill, my niece volunteered to find CCV and take the tank. Because I had offered an alternative to the cylinder, as my niece was getting in car, CCV showed up with replacement. Wooden decks are becoming splintery. (FYI roof will cause probs soon with missing shingles & age.) These things in no way hindered us from having a very nice, relaxing week. Hermine sent us home a day early :(
Great Beach Week
My extended family of 18 stayed in this spacious 8 bedroom home for one gorgeous October week. ISea Esta really is a pretty home with nice decor and lots of sunny places. We loved the enormous wide open kitchen well stocked with appliances, utensils, cookware, etc. The Viking cook top was great! Having two dishwashers and plenty of refrigerator space was great too. The location right on the beach is amazing and convenient--can't beat the views from the dining area. Pool was clean with ample seating around it. Enjoyed many soaks in the large hot tub. Took some wonderful, long bike trips around the area, which was quiet in the off season. Stores do close early though and some restaurants are closed.
We are frequent vrbo renters so we have seen the gamut of houses and amenities. The cons that kept this house from a "great" rating were lots of cigarette butts that initially greeted us at side of driveway and beside pool deck shower entrance, dirty stairway carpet, pool table and cues in disrepair (but still had fun use of it just had to share a cue stick), hot tub cover looks like someone dropped a boulder on it, no cleaning products at all, confusing electronics despite manual instructions being provided and most curious of all was that there was not enough TP for all the bathrooms (6 rolls for 10 bathrooms)--called the rental co and they said that is standard? May seem nit picky but it's the "little things" sometimes. Bikes for use would be a nice touch as well so no need to transport.
We would return--just feel it needs a bit of TLC and some attention to detail.
Thanks for the feedback Kelly. We already have in our maintenance plan to replace the carpet on the stairs. Will absolutely add the hot tub cover and the pool table to the list. We are also planning to replace all bathroom flooring, add granite vanity tops, and replace exterior decking around the pool area. We keep a list and add to it based on guest feedback. In February and March we take care of all of the maintenance and special projects for the year.
Great Family Home
We rented Sea Esta in October of this year, October of 2011, and have it booked for October 2013. It is a wonderful house. We so enjoy our week on the OBX each year. We have been coming to the Corolla area since 2011. Prior to that we would go to the Avon and Buxton area. We drive down from the Boston area.
Your house has a wonderful chef's kitchen. My husband does the cooking most of the time, and your kitchen is set up so perfectly. He can be on one island cooking, and we can still be in the kitchen, but not in his way. This year we celebrated Canadian Thanksgiving during our week. My brother and his family were with us from Ontario, Canada. The turkey cooked perfectly with all the trim. We had 14 in total, 4 generations together for the first time. It was wonderful.
We heat the pool and it is easy for my 86 year old Dad to get to that deck, instead of having to go to the ground floor. He enjoyed the sun and managed to get onto the beach for a few walks, too.
Puppy friendly house is wonderful, too. Our Lab, Bailey has shared each year with us on the OBX. He is 12. This year we had to help him up the stairs, but it was so worth it to see him walk the beach, and take a good roll in the warm sand.
The house is very comfortable.
We had a wonderful vacati...
We had a wonderful vacation! The home is lovely and and didn't lack a single thing. We felt right at home without the need to do extensive cleaning (many times we have had to in other places.) We celebrated my sister's 40th Wedding Anniversary with a formal meal and were blown away with the pictures! It looked like we were at an expensive restuarant. Thank you so much for this opportunity. When we come back to the Outer Banks, we will certainly look this place up. The only negative we had was the pool. It definitely needs a solution for the skimming problem. But it wasn't so bad that we couldn't enjoy using it. Thanks again and best wishes for a properous season.
Thanks for the feedback! I checked with our pool vendor and the skimmer is working as it is supposed to. The issue this year with the bugs is that the season was very wet; when the lights are left on at night at the pool, the bugs are blanketing the water. This is the first year in 14 years that folks are seeing the problem -- lots of snow and wet weather late into the spring seems to have provided a shot in the arm to the bug population. I wish you had called us -- we would have had our pool vendor make a special trip to help clean them out for you! Thanks again for your good wishes -- glad you enjoyed your vacation and our home!
Sea Esta Is a beautiful, ...
Sea Esta Is a beautiful, well equipped home. Our group was from five states and ages ranged from 8mo. to 60yrs,and a wonderful time was had by all. We already reserved for next year. We would reccomend a new gas grill, pool skimmer, workable baby gate and a better functioning pool filter and solar cover.
Thanks Janis -- will put the grill on the list for next season. Even stainless takes a beating on the oceanfront. Ditto on the other items except for the pool cover -- We had a solar cover but found that guests did not want to take the time to cover the pool with it -- it spent the season rolled up on the deck... Thanks for booking again for next year!
All the best.
We have been vacationin...
We have been vacationing at different places/beaches for about 30 years. We have NEVER gone back to the same house twice. Your Sea Esta will be the exception- we can't WAIT to go back.
My husband and I, 3 grown children with their spouses and 5 grandchildren, PLUS a baby sitter fit in your home so well! We loved the floor plans, the appliances, the baths in every bedroom, the outstanding kitchen
with EVERYTHING we needed for such a large group and the 45 cup coffee maker! You guys have thought of everything. Twiddy was very responsive to getting the outside shower working for us and fixing the hot tub.
In Corolla, there are a number of attractions and activities for your family to enjoy. Within walking distance of the home is the Currituck Lighthouse. Just south a few yards is the Whalehead Club - a restored home now used as a museum which sports walking trails on its sound side property. Just four miles north of the home is the 4 Wheel Drive beach - a 5-10 mile stretch of pristine beach that has no roads; where one might still see the wild horses that have made Corolla famous. If you do not have a 4WD vehicle, there are 'outback' tours available. For the kids, there is mini golf, go cart racing, bumper cars, paddle boats and an arcade at the Timbuck II shopping center - adults can browse the many fine shops while the kids are entertained. There is also para sailing, canoeing, kayaking, and wave running available through several companies in the area. Other Activities: kayaking, canoeing, 4WD outback tours, local sightseeing - lighthouse & museum, Wright Brothers Monument, hang-gliding
