THE ULTIMATE VACATION!
Casa Dela Mar is paradise! My extended family (ages 9-76) were in heaven walking the 5 mile beach (we saw almost no one) and swimming/body surfing/boogie boarding in the giant waves for endless hours every day. We took naps in the shaded hammocks and on the many lounge chairs and Francisco made us fresh daiquiris and margaritas and guacamole and chips and then Brenda spoiled us with her cooking at mealtime. The weather was perfect and we never needed AC- the two master bedrooms are open to the beach and you can listen to the waves as you sleep. We stayed home most of the week - why leave paradise? - but Omar's dolphin/whale/sea turtle boat tour was great fun - and Zicatela Surf beach was worth the visit to watch the pro surfers and visit the shops and have a cocktail on the beach at sunset. We all fell in love with the area and HOPE to be back some day very soon. Thank you Karen for sharing your fabulous house with us!
Breathtaking house! Amazing staff!
The house itself is beautiful, we were a big family and everyone got a bed and lots of privacy. The house manager and the owner were very communicative and helpful. The staff was very nice and the food was amazing! We will definitely come back! Very much recommended and great location
So glad you all had such a great time! Thanks for sending the photos and I hope you will come back to Casa Del Mar again soon!!
Absolutely stunning place where you can truly unwind
Casa del mar is a beautiful place to really relax and get into holiday mode. I was there a week and found it hard to stay away from the place. We body surfed the waves out front every day, ate delicious meals 3 times a day (always too much food!) and lazed around in the sun. The service was great and I loved the hospitality of Francisco and the grils who were gorgeous. I'll 100% be back to this private, tranquil sanctuary.
Thank you so much! We loved having you and look forward to your return soon!
Beyond my dreams...
This gorgeous home was our paradise on earth for a week. It really is a compound with ample space for 3 families vacationing together. The main house has mirror huge master bedrooms and the.most exquisitely decorated public rooms (the pictures do not do justice to this magazine-worthy design) which all open up to face a large pool, lounge area & wide beach with barely a soul on it. There are also multiple casitas with more bedrooms and a media room set along lush landscaping and bubbling water gardens. The open-air bathrooms give you a sense of communing with nature and have typical Mexican plumbing so leave any gringo expectations at home.
Casa Del Mar is part of a tiny private cluster of magnificent houses that line the beach. You arrive by a bumpy dirt road which leaves you completely unprepared for the splendor that lies beyond the security gate dutifully operated (seemingly 24/7) by a man and his son. We checked out a few nearby houses but really felt that Casa Del Mar was the perfect choice for us.
The couple who are the caretakers of the house are so sweet and accommodating. They don't speak English so having some Spanish is helpful (google translate works thanks to the great wifi service). There is an American house manager who arranged many things for us such where to rent a car, restaurants to go, locating a tennis court in town, and coordinating some meals that our housekeeper tastefully and artfully prepared.
Puerto Escondido is a great place to visit. Although there are plenty of tourist destinations, even the places that offer foreign food, have an authenticity to them that you would never find in major beach destinations such as Acapulco, Ixtapa or Cancun. There's many parts to discover and a car is absolutely necessary since Casa Del Mar is about 10 minutes outside of town. I don't know about what's normal weather there, but it was sunny ever single day of our stay. The AC's in the bedrooms helped us to sleep at night.
All-in-all, our stay at Casa Del Mar was extraordinary and we hope to return as often as possible.
Breathtaking Luxury Property
The owners could not have been more accurate when describing this beautiful home as "off the beaten path." But do not confuse that with lacking luxury - Casa Del Mar is gorgeous, beautifully detailed and at no extra cost, has sunsets that you will never forget!
Our family of four took walks on the beach where we saw no other footprints but our own, explored the local market, relaxed by the pool, swam in the ocean and ate wonderful meals at the many local restaurants. There are two towns close by that are festive in the evenings and we enjoyed having dinner and then walking around and doing a little shopping. The towns have a surfer vibe with a Mexican flare- can’t beat it! My husband enjoyed biking and explored the surrounding area that way.
I think our favorite part of the trip was being at the house and feeling like we were the only people around. If you want meals at the house, the cook is amazing! Authentic Mexican fare and everything, including the juice in the morning, was fresh.
The rooms have everything you need and the air conditioning works great, which is important because it is hot! The property was kept beautifully by the staff, it was perfect. The lounges around the pool and the hammocks were awesome, everyone fell asleep at least once a day! If you are looking for a non-touristy authentic Mexican experience- look no further.
So glad you enjoyed your stay at our villa, Casa Del Mar!! We hope you will come back again soon to enjoy more sunsets, great food and hammock naps!
Why Karen Block chose Puerto Escondido
We all fell in love with the beaches, the village and the 'off the beaten path feel'. We knew there and then that we must build a shangri la for us and others to enjoy...
