About Rachel

My name is Rachel, my husband and I live the Bay Area, CA.

I love to travel, work in sculpture, garden, bike, hike, love theater, opera, museums, art, and I really enjoy sharing our beautiful home in Tahoe with our friends and guests.

Rachel purchased this house in 2004

Why Rachel chose Christmas Valley

We love our house in Tahoe. It is a very spacious home built on a 2 acres lot, surrounded by the mountains and the US National Forest. South Upper Truckee River runs though our property.

The location is wonderful!. It takes only 20 min getting to everything one would love to do in Tahoe: getting to a couple of ski resorts, to Lake Tahoe, to Stateline casinos, to hiking trails (many trails accessible with no driving at all).

This is our second home and we love coming there at least once a month. We recently did lots of major remodeling: completely remodeled the bathrooms, got all new kitchen appliances, painted inside/outside, got new furniture, new mattresses, rebuilt the deck, and got a new spa. All that done within the last 4 years. We made the house very comfortable for ourselves and our guest.

What makes this house unique

In the winter, sledding and snowshoeing can be done in the back of the house. Heavenly, Sierra-at-Tahoe, and Kirkwood are the closest ski resorts.

The Winter season lease is also available.

In the summer, if you like hiking, you can go on either short or very long hikes right out of the house (no driving). It is the same when it comes to biking. The beautiful Lake Tahoe Southern shore beaches are within a short 20-min drive.

Winter at Red Dog

  • 5 of 5

We just spent a lovely few days at this cabin to enjoy some winter play. Although there was very little snow, we had a fabulous time. The house is well equipped, cozy and welcoming. It is placed in a wooded lot which is just gorgeous. We took a couple of winter hikes directly from the front door, which were thoughtfully given to us by the owner. I highly recommend this property, and plan on coming back next year.

Beautiful environment, comfortable house

  • 5 of 5

The living area of this comfortable, large cabin features outdoor views that are spectacular! Wide variety of trees and the Truckee river (you can hear and see the river from the large deck). Our stay in mid-October included fall colors. Quiet road with hiking trails, great for bike riding too! Dogs have access to the river. Beds were comfortable and clean. Bathrooms warm, clean and beautiful. Kitchen large enough for folks to help the cook; including decent knives and cutting boards (not so in many of the other places we've rented). Ample pots/pans/plates/glasses. Home sleeps 10 and SUPPORTS 10 guests (not true in all places we've rented). Great mud room complete with boot warmers! Good TV. Clean, fantastic hot tub - - nice tiny bubbles that gently massage. Owner is considerate, kind and responsive. Location is in the woods, but only about 20 minutes from stateline.

Home Run

  • 5 of 5

My two teenage sons and I rented the "Red Dog Cabin" in late August. I was attracted to the ad stating that the upper Truckee River flowed by the rear of the property and envisioned having coffee and reading out on the deck in the early morning to the sound of the flowing water. Like anyone, I don't always expect ads to play out as nicely as portrayed, but from my perspective, the ads were spot on. The deck is clean and provides a very private and serene opportunity to have quiet moments. The spa built into the deck was also clean and functioned perfectly. The property is about a 20 minute drive to south Lake Tahoe so it is close enough for those who want to spend time in that area but far enough away to feel that you're truly in a private, mountain location (not sure you'd get that vibe if you choose to stay directly in south Lake Tahoe which I personally found too crowded). There is also another very small town that is a 10 minute drive from the house which has a couple of restaurants and a grocery store (so you don't need to make the trek all the way to S Lake Tahoe if you need just a few grocery items). The location of the property along the street it is situated upon is also a bonus. The house is located in a very small residential neighborhood (it is not without neighboring homes for those looking for Unibomber type isolation). However, the property is located towards the end of the street and the two neighboring properties are far enough away to feel legitimate privacy. In addition, we experienced no traffic noise or pedestrian noise (i.e, noisy neighbors) which I appreciated. The interior of the house is also very nice. There are 3 bedrooms (the third room is basically for kids with a bunk bed and additional twins) and two modern/remodeled bathrooms. The bed I slept in was clean and comfortable and I heard no complaints from my kids about the beds they slept upon. The following tech info will be critical to some: I use Verizon and was not able to get cell service. HOWEVER, the internet service is excellent with 5G that we clocked at over 60 mbps. This allowed me to use my Iphone to make phonecalls via Facetime audio very easily. There is also a landline that works just fine. I legitimately had no issues and if you can find any serious complaints about this great property, perhaps Xanax is what you need to find inner peace rather than a retreat to a riverfront home. Lastly, the owner is very cool !!

Lovely Experience

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at the Red Dog Cabin. The house is nicely situated along a couple of streams and toward the end of the road, yet easily accessible to Tahoe. Everything was clean, the kitchen was well-stocked, and the arrival/departure instructions were crystal clear.

Lovely respite from hustle and bustle

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at RDC! The house is well kept and had everything we needed, including an amazing hot tub! Beautiful, newly renovated showers, too. We hiked up Hawley Grade to see a lovely waterfall despite the rain, and we happy to return to a comfortable house. The owner was very responsive to our questions and clearly anticipates all renters' needs. While we did not bring a dog, I can see why pet owners would like the house. Highly recommended!
