Beautiful Kailua - Spacious, private getaway a short walk from the beach

Overview

About the property

Large and secluded, 1 large bedroom, 1 bath; mountain views and a private yard

The perfect place for a couple or a small family looking to get away from it all! The house is newly remodeled, with a lovely kitchen and living area and its own private yard.

The large upstairs bedroom is cool and breezy, with two king beds; enjoy a relaxing evening or a morning coffee on the balcony, and take in the view of the Ko'olau Mountains.

The downstairs was fully remodeled in 2012. The new new kitchen and living room open onto a private fenced yard with an outdoor breakfast table nestled in the shade of the plumeria tree.

This rental is an easy walk to the beach: it is 5 minutes or less to both Kailua and Lanikai beaches, the jewels of the Windward side of Oahu.

The house is in a quiet neighborhood, away from the vehicle and foot traffic in other parts of the Kailua area. Just down the street, walking distance from the house, is Buzz's Grill - the neighborhood watering hole and an excellent place for dinner. Kalapawai Market is just a little way further down the street - a local hangout, where you can get a cup of coffee and the newspaper, or have breakfast or lunch. Bob's Pizza and Island Snow (your go-to spot for shave ice) are right there, too.

In Kailua Town proper you'll find a new (and quite vibrant) Whole Foods, as well as many different restaurants, including Japanese, Mexican, and Italian food. There's also a great farmers' market every Thursday evening, where local farmers sell fresh produce and a series of food stands provides the best Oahu has to offer.

This rental provides you with peace and privacy, and great access to a world-class beach. Residents and visitors alike love the easy-going spirit of this area.

You can enjoy nearby golfing, snorkeling, kite-surfing, sailing, and boogie-boarding, or just hang out on the beach. And of course just a short drive away you will find world-class surfing and diving; now might be the time to take that surfing lesson! The Ko'olau Mountains offer beautiful hikes through lush forests.

Our family loves living here, and you will love it here too. We look forward to answering any questions you might have, and to meeting you someday, too.

About Jonathan and Jenny

We moved to Oahu from the mainland six years ago, and we quickly fell in love with Kailua. The small-town feel of the place, the welcome we received from those we met here, and the lovely beaches all just made us feel so at home.

Jonathan and Jenny purchased this apartment in 2012

Why Jonathan and Jenny chose East Oahu

We chose this property because it was beautiful, convenient, and private. The neighborhood is safe, and we liked how green it is - the landscape really stands out here.

What makes this apartment unique

The house is a classic Hawaiian home - mid-century modern with a lovely yard. The rental unit is an 'Ohana' apartment - a place for friends and family to stay and visit. It was built more recently and has a great feel, too. The previous owners of this house used to live on the Ohana side - they loved the upper veranda, and would sit out there every night watching the sun set over the Ko'olaus.

Very comfortable

  • 5 of 5

My adult daughter and I stayed at this property and it was great. Quiet area but able to walk to beach (5 - 10 mins) and the wonderful Kalapawai Market etc within 15 minutes. Very large bedroom upstairs with two huge beds in it. Lovely lanai off the bedroom with views to the mountains. Also a private garden downstairs.

Very peaceful, well appointed property.

Perfect for Family of Four

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for three nights while visiting friends in Kailua. It was perfect for our on-the-go family of four (two teenage boys). The large beds we a huge plus, and the view of the mountains from the bedroom was beautiful. The weather was unusually hot while we were there, but the unit's layout is very airy, and the air conditioning was a nice luxury after a long, hot day. We easily walked to the beach (Kailua and Lanikai) every day, and although we didn't use the beach equipment, we noticed there was plenty provided by the owners. We also walked to Buzz's, a must for a nice dinner, and hit Kalapawai market for coffee and breakfast every morning (an easy walk, but we drove in order to maximize our day). In fairness, we didn't cook, so I can't speak to the functionality of the kitchen, but while not a "cook's kitchen," it certainly seemed to have everything you would need if you were so inclined. The downstairs (living room, kitchen and bathroom) was not nearly as light and airy as the upstairs, so we spend most of our time upstairs and on the top balcony. I only wish we had more time in Kailua this trip. We would happily stay here again.

Wonderful trip

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our visit to Kailua. My husband and I spent 7 nights here and had a very relaxing and fun trip. The apartment was clean and had everything we needed. We really liked the location. Kailua is not as crowded and the traffic is not as bad as in Honolulu. We walked to the market just about every morning for breakfast and we walked to the beach too. There are several nice restaurants in town. The only downside that we saw to the apartment is that the bedroom is upstairs and the only bathroom is downstairs. The deck is nice upstairs and there is a pretty big yard downstairs. We would definitely stay here again.

Wonderful first visit

  • 5 of 5

This place was a perfect base for our family. The property is very clean and fresh. The upstairs got enough trade winds that we didn't have to use the air conditioner. The fans were sufficient for cooling. Our hosts were friendly and have children which made us feel a little more relaxed about having our kids there. G reat experience and within driving and walking distance to everything we wanted to do. This location also helped us to avoid some crazy traffic! It was originally over our budget to stay here but so glad we made the switch from busy Waikiki. We'd stay here again in a heart beat.

Quaint, but not the right place for us...

  • 3 of 5

We booked this property for two nights as part of our honeymoon trip around Oahu. We only ended up staying one night as it didn't quite appeal to us. Overall the property is well kept and spacious, especially on the top floor with the large bedroom. It is a good property if you want a relatively comfortable place to stay and be completely self-catering. We found the downstairs to be a bit dark without much natural light and the bathroom, in particular the shower is dark and small. If you are prepared to be completely self maintained and looking for a laid back property...this might work for you. However, we wanted something a bit more modern so it wasn't quite right for us. Also we spotted some creepy cockroach...which could be common, but still not a pleasant sight!

Loved It!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this property for 8 nights in the winter of 2015. This property is fabulous. It is just as great as the photos look like it will be. We decided to stay here despite the fact it was a bit over our budget – and it was well worth it. Some of the advantages of this property: the private yard with table and chairs, the large upper floor balcony that was a nice spot to start the day, apt is super clean, amenities are top of the line, air conditioning wasn’t needed every night – but nice to have.

Jeremy and Jenny were good hosts. The neighborhood lost power for a few hours while we were there and both Jeremy and Jenny checked in on us and brought candles, very kind.

Kailua Beach is beautiful – we visited 8 of the Oahu beaches, and this was one of our favorites. Nice to have right in the “neighborhood”.

A beautiful little town with great restaurants and a farmers' market... and two peaceful and postcard-like world class beaches right down the street. Good snorkeling or kayaking with turtles in walking distance too!

Our house is in a quiet, residential neighborhood. It is a great place for a relaxing getaway! Late night partying and large groups really don't work well for us. Reserving this property means you understand and accept this. For which we are very grateful to you! Aloha.
