PLEASE BE SURE TO HAVE ACCESS CODE TO CABIN BEFORE DEPARTURE FROM HOME AS CELL SERVICE IS WEAK AT THE CABIN! Important note: We do NOT post this cabin on Craigslist. If you try to book through Craigslist this is a scam. Unfortunately Craigslist is very slow deleting the false post. All bookings are to be made through VRBO only. This is a 3 bedroom, 1 bath authentic log cabin. Bedroom 1 has a queen bed, bedroom 2 has two twin beds, and bedroom 3 offers twin bunk beds. There is also a pull-out queen sofa sleeper and two twin roll-way beds.

Frequently Asked Questions:

1) IS THE CALENDAR UP TO DATE? DO YOU HAVE AVAILABILITY FOR OUR DATES?

*YES, the calendar is always up to date! If it says that it hasn't been updated for a few days, that just means that we haven't made changes to it recently. There is not another calendar anywhere. If it says we are booked, we are booked! If it says we have an opening, we'd love to have you stay with us!

2) DO WE NEED TO BRING OUR OWN FIREWOOD?

*YES, you should bring your own firewood. There is a woodshed that *may have* wood in it. If there is some left, you are welcome to use it. However, we are having an ongoing issue with theft of the wood by both guests and an undetermined third party so when it's gone it will not be replaced. ONLY the fireplace and fire pit are approved for fires. The wood stove is non-functional and may not be used.

3) ARE TOWELS AND BEDDING PROVIDED?

*YES, both towels and bedding are provided.

4) CAN WE HAVE A PARTY AT THE CABIN? CAN WE SMOKE?

*NO, under no circumstances will smoking or house parties be allowed. Large family reunions need to be discussed in advance.

5) DO I NEED TO BRING MY OWN COFFEE AND FILTERS?

*YES, you need to bring your own coffee and filters. There is a Mr. Coffee brand coffee pot if you would like to use it.

6) IS THERE ENOUGH PARKING FOR MY VEHICLE AND TRAILER?

*YES, there is plenty of parking. The driveway goes in a huge circle so trailers do not need to backed in and turned. There is room for at least 10 trucks with trailers, but of course there will never be that many, as parties are not allowed!

7) DO YOU HAVE A GRILL? IS IT OPEN IN THE WINTER?

*YES, there is a charcoal grill available but depending on the depth of snow it may be hard to access in the winter. There is also a gas grill on the back deck with a spare propane tank in the front closet(usually). The spare propane has 'disappeared' several times, so if you definitely want to grill it is safest to bring charcoal.

8) DO I NEED TO BRING TOILET PAPER?

*There is an initial supply of toilet paper and paper towels provided. If your party needs a large amount, please bring additional paper products with you.

9) IS THERE A STOVE AT THE CABIN FOR COOKING?

*There is both a gas stove with an oven as well as a microwave. There is not a dishwasher and guests are asked wash any dishes that are used.

10) DO YOU HAVE INTERNET ACCESS?

*NO, we do not have internet access and cell access is limited at the cabin depending on your carrier. (Owner Nikki has AT&T and she has little/no coverage at the cabin. Owner Mark has Verizon and his coverage is better but not great.)

11) WHAT ABOUT WILDLIFE?

*YES, there is plenty of beautiful wildlife in our area. There was a bear sighting at the cabin in 2014 due to guests leaving trash outside instead of in the bear-proof receptacle (not allowed!). Whitetail deer and wild turkey are the most common visitors. This is a cabin set on 80 acres of otherwise undisturbed pure Michigan wilderness so this of course an abundance of wildlife including but not limited to whitetail deer, rabbit, fox, coyote, otter, mink, turkey, grouse, etc. Always observe from a distance and exercise common safety sense. In addition, it is normal in northern Michigan when the weather starts to become cold that wildlife will start seeking out warm areas to winter. On occasion particularly in the fall, we will have a field mouse or two that tries to make his winter home in the cabin. Again, this is not a reflection on the cleanliness of the cabin but a normal annual occurrence in the northwoods. We do have repellent stations in place but one still may be seen on rare occasion. Black flies and mosquitos are other common pests in the northwoods and you may see some in the windows, in particular if the doors have been left open without the screen.

Of course if you have other questions you are always welcome to contact us.

About Nikole Adamson

The cabin is owned by brother and sister team, Mark and Nikki Adamson. This cabin was their childhood home and it was built from the ground up by their parents, Karl and Carolyn (shown in photo). It took every weekend over the course of four years to complete. Karl was a native of Watersmeet and wanted to bring his family back to the simpler, more honest life offered in rural Michigan. The only thing in the home that our parents did not build is the fireplace and rocks laid by the front door. Dad always said he 'didn't want to practice in the middle of the living room'. Both Karl and Carolyn have passed on now but their memory lives on in this beautiful cabin and location.

About the owners:

Owner Nikki Adamson resides in Dallas, GA. If you call with a question or for help with a reservation, you will most likely talk with her. She has been married to husband Cory Schaubs for 10 years and she is a general dentist. Nikki and Cory enjoy camping and the outdoors, target shooting, archery, and travel. They spend a week vacation every summer up north improving the cabin. Nikki and Cory have two fur-children, a three-legged German Shepherd named Sophia, and a mixed breed rescue cat named Chloe.

Owner Mark now lives in Lake Villa, IL. He handles more of the repairs and cabin maintenance. Mark is an electrical lineman and has been married to his wife, Lynn, for 10 years. They have one wonderful son, Reid. Mark and his family also enjoy camping, the outdoors and Reid's sporting events. Their dogs, Levi and Ellie, complete the family.

After the early passing of our parents, we were not ready to sell the place that we still call home. After much thought and discussion, we decided to make Simpler Times Cabin a place that others can come enjoy too. You'll quickly see why so many people come to visit our area and why we wanted to share it with you.

Nikole Adamson purchased this cabin in 1982

Why Nikole Adamson chose Upper Peninsula

Look closely at the cabin and you will see the love, sweat and tears that were spent building this home. The logs are hand-peeled red pine timber, and the chinking was placed inch-by-inch with little nails by our mother. The cabinets are handmade with tongue and groove lumber, and the open ceilings offer and open yet cozy feel. The water is from a spring-fed well and so incredibly pure. The air is clean, the seclusion is spectacular and the scenery speaks for itself.

What makes this cabin unique

This property is an authentic log cabin and was actually built as a three-bedroom home. For this reason, it is much more spacious and well-appointed than many other rental cabins.

Great location for all around travel fun.

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful, cozy cabin on the woods. We all enjoyed the peaceful setting, except for the mosquitos. The cabin had everything we needed. However, in my opinion one of the other bedrooms should also have a full size bed instead of two twin beds. We have a two year old and she and my daughter shared the twin bed.

Nice private cabin.

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed the cabin located in a private area with a peaceful river flowing in the backyard. There was firewood stacked and ready for us to use by the fire pit, and the Adirondack chairs were "just right.

Inside, our kids enjoyed the nicely decorated rooms, and we had space to spread out yet remain cozy.

We hope to return.

Authentic Beauty!!!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four & our golden retriever just spent an amazing five days at Simpler Times log cabin. The name says it all! Away from the hustle & bustle, we were able to enjoy eachother while surrounded by pure beauty. The cabin itself is obviously very well loved by the owners. There is a warmth & charm in all the decorating & such a "homey"feel about the place. We loved the open beam ceilings, the wagon wheel lighting, the gorgeous river stone fireplace & all the north woods animal decor. We spent our trip kayaking down the river with help by Eli from Sylvania Outfitters. He was fantastic! He dropped us off, then picked us up three hours later down the river & gave us wonderful history on Watersmeet as we travelled in the car with him. We drove an hour & a half to Porcupine Mountains & hiked to the beautiful look out of Lake in the Clouds. Just spectacular! It was worth the drive to see & then stopped along Lake Superior beach to touch the cold waters & gaze out into the seemingly endless waters. We stopped at Fishtales restaurant on the way back from "the Porkies" & had the best fish tacos I've ever tasted while being entertained by the friendly staff. We hiked around Bond Falls & we're very impressed by such a wide & powerful waterfall! We drove into the Sylvania Forest & swam in the clear virgin waters of Clark Lake beach. We ate breakfast at Pine Cone Cafe & loved the food & the small town hospitality! We grilled, we made homemade pizza, we watched movies that were provided. We sat around the campfire & roasted marshmallows & told stories. We gazed up at the amazing stars! I didn't know you could see that many stars with the naked eye! We are renewed, rejuvenated & reconnected as a family! What a very special place you have there! We can't thank you enough for sharing it with our family! We hope one day to be back:)

Simpler Times Cabin is located on 80 secluded acres in beautiful Watersmeet, MI. There are an abundance of activities in the area, or ample opportunities to just sit and relax.

The Middle Branch of the Ontonagon River crosses the back yard for immediate access to fishing or canoeing, and the snowmobile trail crosses the driveway - no need to go anywhere to access the trail!

In the area, the Lac Vieux Desert Band of Chippewa offers a beautiful casino complex with gambling, bingo, golf, and restaurant. Bond Falls, always a favorite, is close by as well. We have information in the cabin for those interested in the nearby Paulding Mystery Light, Sylvania Wilderness Area, canoe and boat rentals, cross country skiing, Watersmeet Trout Hatchery and Ottawa National Forest Visitor Center.

Within an hours drive you can see Old Victoria Mining Community, Caledonia Mine, Lake of the Clouds, Little Girl's Point, multiple downhill ski hills, ski jumping and many scenic drives. This is a great central base to see the western U.P.!
