About Kate Bishop

Kate and Grady's home has always been a social center for artists, students and travelers. When they moved to Bisbee from California, they lived in Orion House while Grady built their new home in the adjacent lot. Then it seemed natural to open Orion House for guests. They have traveled extensively, and know what it takes to make you feel welcome and comfortable.

They have recently returned from one year of travel in Southeast Asia and South America.

Grady is a retired building contractor who teaches furniture-making to women in transition. Kate is an artist/clairvoyant medium. The Orion House is decorated with artwork acquired in Europe, Central and South America, the Caribbean and Asia.

Kate Bishop purchased this house in 2005

Why Kate Bishop chose Bisbee

They bought this property after visiting Bisbee for a weekend and falling in love with the area. The cozy window seat alcove in the kitchen won Kate's heart. She has spent hours reading, relaxing and bird watching there. The location on High Road is ideal for its feeling of peaceful seclusion within easy walking distance from downtown, the magnificent views, wonderful neighbors, spacious house, garden and decks.

What makes this house unique

It is comfortable for a single person, but can sleep up to eight. The layout and well-equipped kitchen and barbecue make it a great place to host a party, seminar, or other group activity. The fenced yard is dog-friendly.

An Oasis of Peace & Beauty

  • 5 of 5

My husband, 22-year-old daughter, our two poodles, and I spent the Labor Day weekend at Orion House. We have stayed in Bisbee before and love the town, but this house totally raised the bar for staying there. Outstanding views, charming, historic, quiet, glorious garden, lovely touches everywhere you look -- we actually just hung out at the house most of the time because we were enjoying it so much. And the hosts could not have been more welcoming, helpful, and fun. Total Win!!

Home! Beautiful! Quiet! Peacefilled! Wildlife! Home!

  • 5 of 5

Look no further if you are looking for a lovely spot to stay while in Bisbee, this is your spot.

Kate and Grady were amazing...Extraordinarily accomadating...Super cool people! They are involved in some wonderful humanitarian efforts, which they will happily share with you. Also, Grady has written some books that are located in the home for your reading pleasure. Let's not forget the wonderful cookies that Kate prepares...Yummo!!

We stayed here last weekend while getting married in Bisbee. We hosted a gathering at Orion after and it was just perfect. Lots of space for hosting...we even were able to have a spot to lay the grandchildren down for a bit when they were pooped out.

The birds in the morning were fantastic to watch. They offer bird food to refill the feeders for your viewing enjoyment.

The view is fantastic of Bisbee...We watched beautiful monsoon storms come in..Quite the light show every night to view from the lovely front porch.

Beds were comfy and the bedding very luxurious and comfortable...I usually have problems sleeping away from home, but no problems here at all.

We loved this house so much. We will be back for sure! Thank you Kate and Grady for making our special time even more special..We love you kids!

Charming home in great location

  • 5 of 5

Orion House was the perfect Bisbee getaway for us. It’s nestled on a hill in a quiet spot surrounded by trees and bird life, but just a short stroll into town. The house is very comfortable, providing everything you need. We especially enjoyed the front porch and deck areas to relax, drink coffee and read a good book while taking in the spectacular mountain and town views. We live just 30 minutes away but staying here felt like we were on a true vacation. Would definitely recommend and hope to return.

Even Better Than it Looks

  • 5 of 5

The Orion house is a truly joyful place. Everything about our stay exceeded our expectations. Grady and Kate are wonderful people and made us feel welcome and comfortable. The outdoor space was exceptional; beautiful views and birds, a serene place for coffee and breakfast in the morning and a glass of wine in the afternoon. The house is comfortable with well appointed kitchen and baths and we were happy to see a water filter for drinking. If you have ever had Bisbee water from the tap, you will understand our delight! So happy we had the opportunity to experience this place. Our dog Millie had a ball running around in the secure yard.

Thank you Grady and Kate for sharing this place, we truly appreciate your hospitality.
