About Jacquie C. Walker

I have owned this property for 30 years and converted the barn for a Bed & Breakfast which I have operated for 13 years. It has been very popular and has enjoyed a good reputation as well run and a unique property for a weekend stays. But now is the time for me to retire from the daily work of a B & B and this outstanding historic barn is being offered for rent as a vacation rental to families and friends.

Jacquie C. Walker purchased this barn in 1984

Why Jacquie C. Walker chose Bucks County

We bought this property because of the historic significance of the barn and being located in the heart of Bucks County, PA. where we could stable our horses and enjoy a country life and take in all the activities of the area.

What makes this barn unique

The setting of this property is beautiful and in addition to the barn it has a very nice stable for our horses and an 1800 stone farmhouse, all on the same property. Staying here gives one the feeling of a true farm with its outbuildings and pastures.

Notes:
Located between two parks with lakes, six miles to Doylestown that has 4 museums, an 12 miles to New Hope and Peddler's Village. A great country location close to all major attractions. The barn can only be used for the number of guests that is booked on the reservation. Day guests are welcomed but not over 8 people. If the renters want to have a dinner, an event, a party for more than the people who are staying overnight, then the studio will have to be rented for that event. The cost of the studio is $400 for 5 hours plus tablecloths, etc.

The property is gorgeous and very comfortable for large groups. Jackie can be challenging but fair.

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay. The place wasn't spotless but it was quaint and very warm. Jackie has her rules and isn't shy about telling them to you but she respected our space and wasn't in our face. If you take the time to talk to her, she'll put a smile on your face.

Owner's Response: This was a very nice group of friends and family here for a wedding. It was a pleasure having them.....I am quite surprised at this guest's comment about it not being spotless as we have a professional cleaning service who does an excellent job....they are considered the best in this area...and I personally check everything before guests check in to make sure the cleaning has been well done. This is a awesome converted barn that will take your breath away when you first walk into it. Guests are always so impressed and we want them to enjoy the uniqueness of it. We work hard to make this a great stay and it makes us pleased when guests comment they enjoyed their stay....Jacquie

Charming and scenic location, friendly concierge, difficult host.

  • 3 of 5

This is a beautiful space amid green pastures that abounds with character and charm: a charismatic interior nestled among tall trees and lush gardens. I was delighted with the space and with the concierges who assisted us; however, several encounters with the owner prompt me to warn potential renters. We reserved the spot for my son's wedding. We rented not only the Barn, but also the studio, where we held the welcome party the night before the ceremony. To reserve the studio, the owner referred us to her grandson, Jordan A. Preston. We paid our deposit last August and paid in full in April upon Jordan's request. Some weeks later the owner, Jacquie Walker, contacted me to say that Jordan had run off with the deposit and that she had no paperwork. She had no details of our arrangement and claimed she did not get paid. I sent her the cancelled checks with both her and Jordan's signatures. She wanted us to insure the studio separately--the bride's family had already taken care of that, but it took four more calls with both me and the bride's father to convince her. Although I didn't care for her manner and found her phone etiquette annoying, I could understand her anxiety. I am writing this review because of what happened next. Jacquie connected us with a new concierge, Wendy, who was very pleasant and responsive. There was only one hitch: we planned to arrive at 3 pm to check-in and the party was to start at 4 o'clock. Wendy had a conflict at 3--could we change? I was flying into Newark and driving down to Perkasie and didn't feel like I could commit to an earlier time. We had arrangements to meet my son for lunch in Doylestown and I didn't want to change those plans. Wendy said she would ask Jacquie to get someone else. This communication happened in mid-May. I heard nothing more until Wendy called the day before our event on June 2nd to ask again if I could meet earlier. My son thought he could make it at 2 o'clock. I thought that I had given enough notice and that they should not ask the groom to miss lunch with his mother! I was annoyed and let Wendy know. Jacquie called and started to yell at me. She was so abusive that I hung up. I sent her next call to voicemail (which I have saved) where she told me there will be no event, that my arrangements were with Jordan and that she did not have to honor them. We compromised and everything worked out in the end, but I would not want someone to go through what I did.

The Best of All Worlds

  • 5 of 5

The farm had everything that was advertised. It was extremely spacious, clean and had a charm unlike any other VRBO rental I've ever stayed in. Jackie and Jordan were both extremely responsive and informative about check in times and directions. We had a total of 16 friends and family and everyone was comfortably accommodated. The kitchen was fully stocked with utensils and there was enough table space for everyone to eat in the same room. It was a great experience and I look forward to staying there again next year.

Destination Choice in Central Bucks

  • 5 of 5

I felt the need to write review only after seeing some recent comments . I've stayed here on and off over the last 3 years, there isn't a more affordable , bucolic setting . Yes, there can be some WiFi and cell phone dead spots on occasion but you are out in the country . I happened to have checked out on my most recent stay on the 11th of November , due to my late getaway I had reason to walk around the property and let me tell you , the place as always was immaculate awaiting the guests for said weekend . I was not present for the weekend so I won't attempt to dissect the above squabble , but I must challenge the questioning of the cleanliness of this property . I would not return as often as I do to any place that was unacceptable . I hope when people read these reviews that they can make their own educated decisions .

All the best,

Kevin B .

We work hard to have a great place for guests to enjoy and it makes all the hard work and efforts worthwhile when we have an appreciative guest such as you. Our facility is always up to the highest standards possible as we have done for over fifteen years that we have welcomed guests. We take pride in our beautiful converted historic barn and we are so glad when a guest like you returns year after year. Thanks so much for the nice review. Jacquie & Jordan

Perfect Place for a Woman's Retreat

  • 4 of 5

This is a gorgeous property and perfect for hosting a girls retreat. Sometimes I think when people fill out these reviews, the forget it is for a rental property-not a hotel. The kitchen was a lot nicer than I had expected--and we used it for making great big yummy meals. They have a huge stove and fridge which was super helpful as we made a turkey. And the coffee maker station was perfect. The rooms are all of decent size and the beds were comfortable. The sheets and comforters were of a nice quality. We were there at the perfect time--Friday night we were able to sit outside and enjoy outdoors and during the day the great room worked perfectly for us to have our retreat activities. The Owner was offsite when we were there, but I can't say enough wonderful things about Jordan. He was responsive, attentive, helpful, and extremely reasonable. He reminded us when we needed to move our cars in a very nice way--and let us know the rules without making us feel like we did something wrong. If we needed anything, all we had to do was text him. Jordan made our great weekend very comfortable. Make sure to get to the Pearl S. Buck museum right around the corner!

Owner's Response: This was a wonderful group of women and the hostess for the group was the best...couldn't have been better!! It was such a pleasure having them and my assistant Jordan enjoyed having them so much. We always strive to make a guest's stay enjoyable and it was so easy with this group. They were congenial and very cooperative at all times. They were very respectful of the property and our policies. We welcome them back anytime. Jacquie Walker, Owner

Not a good experience . . .

  • 1 of 5

Not the best experience . . .

★ ★ ★ ★ ★

Let me first say that this a a beautiful barn and the studio is a perfect place to rent for an event of less than 50 people. My wife and I stayed here for a weekend and rented out the studio for 5 hours for our small informal wedding reception. HOWEVER, let me warn you that the 5 hour studio rental means you are only allowed access for a TOTAL of 5 hours. We told the owner and her assistant that we needed to have access to the studio to decorate and setup for the 5 hour event we had planned and they were initially fine with that, but the next day we were told that we were in there too long and would be charged for another full day plus another cleaning fee in cash that they "forgot" to inform us about. This was not part of our original rental agreement. I was not happy with the lack of communication on their behalf to inform us of this upfront. They do not make their policy clear and really are not willing to put forth the effort to make your stay memorable. I also wanted to make a few trips to the location before we checked in to determine our needs for the party. I was allowed on the property a couple times, but when I asked to visit a third time I was met with resistance. The entire time we were there we were "reminded" of the rules and our every move was watched. Very annoying. We had a great reception despite of the lack of hospitality. Also, this place needs a serious technology upgrade. We were not there to watch tv or use the internet, but you should know that the TV's and stereo system are very old and did not really work well. The wifi was not accessible for us at all. The smoke detector in the studio was beeping the entire weekend. We had a lot of other problems, but I will spare you all of the details. Not a pleasant experience for us. We did not feel welcome at all.

Owner's Response: First , the agreement for the studio rental is five hours. These people knew that when they rented the studio. What is it that they do not understand what five hours means? When they arrived they went to the studio , without asking and spent five hours decorating until my assistant said something. Then the next morning they went back over to the Studio and spent another three hours until my assistant said something to them and told them that this was way over the agreement and that they would be charged for the extra time. The rental time was from 6-11 PM. Their guests arrived at 4 PM and they had a cocktail party in our converted barn for two hours before the rental time in the studio. The rental agreement for the Converted Barn was for 18 people for lodging. There were over 50 people at the cocktail party. There was no agreement to have any function in the barn as the limit for lodging is 18 people and we do not hold functions in the barn as we have the Studio for these events. The weather was very inclement and my assistant had to have them roll up our antique oriental rugs as the guests were bringing in dirt and gravel all over the carpets. These guests took advantage of us and tried to get away with having a n extended party in the barn and the use of the Studio for twice the amount of time. They did not want to pay any extra money for all the extra hours and they never had permission to use the Converted Barn for a cocktail party. They left a mess and there was dirt and gravel all over the barn. So, we charged them for it and deducted it from their security deposit and this is why you have this negative review. We have given them a one star review which is far more than they deserve considering the terrible way in which they behaved and took advantage of us. My assistant was most cordial and their guests did have a nice time. BUT they were advised that they would be charged for all the extra time and he has it on a text message. This was before he realized they were having an additional party in the barn for which they did not have permission and they were not charged. Please refer to the many 4 and 5 star reviews we have received from wonderful guests that have stayed with us.In over the fifteen years we have been welcoming people , it is our goal to always make the guests have a good time and enjoy themselves. But we expect our guests to respect our property and the agreement they have with us.

Located on a 10 acre horse farm, the historic converted 1818 barn was once the dairy farm of author Pearl S. Buck., whose estate is just around the corner. Close to Doylestown with its four museums,Peddler's Village with over 100 fine shops, Lake Galena/ Peace Valley Park and Nockamixon State Park , both with water activities, hiking trails. It is just a short drive to the Delaware River, New Hope & Lambertville, with their fine restaurants, shops, galleries and county theater.

We do not rent for weddings or any other event of any size. The accommodations are for eighteen guests, including the children.
