Pet Friendly! Located on one of the more tree-canopied streets on the island, our home will provide you with the perfect vacation getaway you have been looking for. The live oaks that cover this area give you the feeling like you are in your own world. Once you park your car under the carport in the back, you may not need to use it again during your stay.
We are in a convenient location at the south end of the island, just about a 10-minute (0.4 mile) walk to the beach and 15-minute (0.7 mile) walk to the village. We are also centrally located to many great restaurants and fun activities for the whole family to discover. Cummings Lane is a very cozy, quiet, and peaceful location. It is only one block long with more people walking than driving. The trees and landscaping provide a sense of privacy and seclusion from neighbors. It is truly our favorite street on the island.
The open style floor plan and outdoor porches provide for very comfortable living. The bedrooms each have their own bathroom and can be considered to be their own suite. Amenities include cable TV, wireless internet access, a large hot/cold outdoor shower, large back deck, fully-equipped kitchen, and more.
As new owners in 2013, we made many improvements to the property while we were snowbirding during the winter/early spring. We removed the carpet and put down wood flooring. We installed a new dishwasher and water heater and replaced all shower heads and faucets. There is a new blue ray player and flat screen TV in the living room and a DVD player and flat screen TV in the master bedroom. There is also a flat screen TV in the 2nd bedroom. Outside in the front we built a paver path and put in many new plants in the front yard.
Our 2014 improvements included a large deck out back and an outdoor hot water shower, new deck furniture, and landscaping in the backyard (including a Meyers lemon tree and grapefruit tree). We made another big improvement at the request of several of our guests last year. We added fencing and gates to completely enclose the backyard so pets can roam freely.
This past winter/early spring 2015 on St. Simons Island was great! We had plenty of time to relax, but we also made more enhancements to make the cottage even better. We replaced the living room furniture with a new sofa and loveseat and coffee tables, painted both bathrooms and the kitchen, added a new ceiling fan in the living room, bought a new TV for the 2nd bedroom, built a new paver path out the back door, and replaced the roof. We also built a raised bed in the back that serves as our vegetable garden in the winter and flowers for you in the warmer months. We hope you enjoy all we have done.
The cottage has all that you will need for a great vacation getaway and so we provide all the basic essentials we could think of. In addition to typical items like toilet paper, paper towels, napkins, and tissues we also provide plastic wrap and bags, laundry supplies, hand soap, dishwasher soap, coffee filters, spices, and beach towels and cart. There is even a small cooler with those blue ice things in the freezer ready for you first day on the beach. Our overall philosophy is to have you arrive at a home that has what you need without having to immediately run out to Winn-Dixie. Yes, you will need to get food, but at least that can wait until you have had a good night’s sleep and your morning coffee…you will even find a packet of coffee for your first morning in the cottage. We really have everything you need!
We have had the best guests and are excited about continuing to share our home as a vacation rental that is both warm and inviting. We will make every effort to provide you with a comfortable home away from home, great service when needed, and an overall ideal vacation experience.
If you have more than 4-6 people, we are happy to work with our next door neighbor (vrbo 96191) to try to accommodate a larger group.

About the owner: We are retired teachers, but still work part time. We found out about St. Simons Island by chance and fell in love with the village, beach, and people. Being originally from a rural area, we that found St. Simons gives us the same comfortable feeling of home that we hope you get the chance to experience too. We have a rescued dog who is a certified therapy dog. Buddy loves to go to schools where the children read to him. This is a very pet-friendly island. The beach is a great place for dogs and you can also bring your dog to dine with you at any restaurant with outside seating. It is in this light that we have made our home pet friendly too. We have now happily owned the cottage for over two years and have had the most wonderful guests visit. We wanted to make our cottage a warm and inviting, well-equipped rental home and have been told by many that we did just that. And we have plans to make it even better each year. Since we spend our winters here every year and know the home so well, we can offer you a cottage in excellent condition. Considering the yearly enhancements and continued routine maintenance, we know our cottage will provide you with a vacation that is as free from problems as possible. This is one of the many things that makes our cottage stand out among the rest. We are here every year to take care of it all. Another benefit of renting from owners who consider the cottage as home for four or five months every year is that you are sure to have all the comforts you would need. The kitchen is fully stocked with quality appliances, dishes, pots and pans, spices, and many other items you would need for those who enjoy eating in. The master bedroom has its own bathroom, but if you check out the floor plan (last item in the group of photos) you can see that the second bedroom can be considered to have its own private bathroom as well. That bathroom, just off the dining area, is within the alcove entrance to the second bedroom. The outer door of the alcove can be closed off at night creating another private bedroom/bathroom master suite. This makes the home ideal for one or two couples or for families with children. There is a dining area that seats four plus, another dining area in the screened porch, and a patio dining set for four on the back deck.The living room has two comfortable couches, a flat screen TV, games and books. The front porch is my favorite spot with a great porch railing at the perfect height for putting your feet up while sipping a glass of wine. Enjoy!
