Fully furnished and equipped home. 4WD is required during the winter months.
I've lived in New Mexico for 35 years, loving it the entire time.
Dorothy Dean purchased this house in 1994
Close to town but has the old world feeling of the Santa Fe I first met in 1979. Quiet, fresh mountain air; I walk up my road and I am in the Santa Fe National Forest. Beautiful views of the mountains the entire drive out.
The lights of the city are occluded which makes twice as many stars visible in the night sky. I love watching meteor showers from my hot tub! It is exquisitely quiet and peaceful and only 15 to 20 minutes to the plaza all along a graceful mountain road without traffic lights and only a few stop signs, no traffic!
This is a very special place -- beautiful, peaceful, secluded yet near enough to enjoy everything Santa Fe has to offer. I couldn't recommend it more highly for a northern New Mexico vacation. The owner is great to deal with, she has thought through everything the place needs to be comfortable and easy. Five stars for sure.
My husband and I came here to find a secluded getaway to celebrate my birthday. While we enjoyed our visits everyday to the city of Santa Fe and a drive to Taos, we loved staying in this casita. The view of the sky at night was wonderful. We got up during the night and went outside to see the amazing sky. We live in an urban area of the Midwest and the view of the sky is often limited by city lights. It was a wonderful experience to see the Milky Way several nights in a row and many shooting stars as well. During the day we loved sitting on either large patio and watching the birds come to the water bubbler. It was a relaxing, wonderful place to stay. We enjoyed the owner's landscaping, too, the hot tub, and her southwestern style of decorating. I especially loved browsing through her landscaping/gardening magazines. Staying here was so much better than staying in a hotel. I would come here again. The cool nights were wonderful.
My husband and I loved our stay at this casita. The clay/straw walls, the earth tones, the birds, the view of surrounding ridges, all these things contributed to a wonderful feeling. The skies at night were indeed beautiful, I could see many more stars than I can at home in Brooklyn, and could even see the milky way! The house was clean and very comfortable. Dorothy was very helpful and friendly. The hot tub was just what my husband needed for his sore back.
We had a great stay at this property. It was clean and well kept and everything worked. Our host was extremely helpful and welcoming and the house was well stocked with everything that we needed. We enjoyed the hot tub and the privacy! The weekend that we stayed there were thunderstorms - we watched the storms come up the canyon and really loved the sound of rain on the roof. Highly recommended - we'll be back.
If you want to get away from it all in peaceful, secluded surroundings then this is the place for you. Set about 20 minutes from Santa Fe it is a wonderful house in a beautiful setting. Dorothy was very easy and very accommodating to work with and the whole trip was just excellent. The patio and landscaping captured our hearts. The house is in excellent condition with everything you need for your stay. Everything was as advertised and we couldn't have asked for more. And if you do want a little more excitement then Santa Fe is only a short drive away. I would highly recommend it, and I plan to return again.
This beautiful home is definitely off the beaten path! It's close enough to town but still gives you the feeling of being away from it all. The home has everything you could need including lots of kitchen items etc. Dorothy was a wonderful host - very accessible by phone and email but not intrusive in any way. No cell phone reception so be ready for that. There is a land line and wifi which was sufficient for us. Recommend for sure!
