Cozy Mountain Cabin , close to Snoqualmie Pass and the Yakima River

Overview

About the property

2 bath, quality cabin sleeps 6, on private wooded lot with river access.

If you enjoy the outdoors, then here is the place to turn off the phones, unplug the computer, and unwind. This large, well-maintained cabin has plenty of space and all the amenities you need, while also feeling remote on a wooded, one-acre lot. Note that, by design, there is no cable TV or internet. However, cell service is very good, and we have Chromecast if you want to throw something to the flat screen, or you can just use the DVD player.

Just 27 miles from The Summit at Snoqualmie, you have a quick trip up and back to the ski area, while also avoiding the Seattle traffic! Whether skiing or tubing, or trying out the Nordic center, there are lots of snow activities at the Summit.

The cabin is in a wooded, rural area, and during winter months you can expect snow. We provide snow shovels for the deck and stairs, and having 4-wheel drive may help you get in and out during big snowfall days. Your Fitbit will love you.

The main floor has a fully-equipped kitchen, dining room, living room, laundry room, and two bathrooms.

There is a dining table and a game table. You can take the top off the game table to play bumper pool (on a challenging, slightly warped table), or flip the top over for a beautiful poker table.

The sofa and easy chair in the living room provide comfortable places to watch movies or relax in front of a fire. We have an eclectic collection of movies, or you can bring your own.

Upstairs is the loft, with twin beds for the kids, and full a bed for the folks. The loft is open on one side so you can also see over the living room through the huge windows to the front deck and lawn.

The cabin has front and back decks. In the summer, there is a propane grill and a refrigerator that can be plugged in on the back deck if you need more refrigerator space. Five plastic chairs can be taken down to the river or out on the lawn.

There is an outdoor fire pit off the back deck. Please provide your own wood when burning is allowed, and note that a complete burn ban is typically enforced from early July through early September, sometimes even longer. It is illegal to have an outdoor fire when a burn ban is in effect.

There is no collecting of wood from the property or neighboring properties.

The Yakima River is 300 feet away from the cabin, across a small bridge and down a wooded path. Wading or sitting in the river is wonderful on a hot summer day! In the winter, look for herds of Elk as they pass through the property.

About Will Hall

The owners, Laurie and Will, grew up in King County and live in Shoreline. We love our cabin, and we still use it a lot. It is primarily furnished for our own private use, but we've locked away our personal stuff so we could make it available for you to enjoy when we're not up there.

Will Hall purchased this cabin in 1961

Why Will Hall chose Elk Meadows

Laurie's parents bought this one-acre lot on the Yakima River back in the 1960s, and built the cabin in 1978. While growing up, Laurie spent many summer and winter weekends going up to the property, then helping build the cabin, and now maintaining and improving it. Will has enjoyed helping out for the past twenty years and transforming it from a cabin into a truly spectacular home away from home. We especially like using it as our base camp in the winter if we're going skiing or snowshoeing. You're welcome to use all the games, movies, kitchen stuff, and everything else up there. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

What makes this cabin unique

The beautiful cottonwoods, firs, and cedars on the lot provide enough shade to stay cool in the summer. With lawns in front, in back, and down by the river, there is also always a place to find and enjoy the sunshine. The location on the east slope of the Cascades is perfect for birds and wildlife. Watch for the pileated woodpeckers, goldfinches, and flickers. In the morning, you may see deer or elk on the property and fish rising in the river. And at sunset by the river, don't be spooked when the swallows go away and the bats come out. This is nature at its best, and why we love it up here. And all of this just 90 minutes from Seattle, and 40 minutes from Ellensburg.

Winter wonderland ☃️

  • 5 of 5

We wanted to have a snowy pre-christmas holiday, and our wish was granted!

The cabin was as advertised....cozy, comfortable and conveniently located.

If you stay in the winter, bring lots of wood. At the end of a day of hiking, snow shoeing and photography, the fireplace was a perfect way to warm up with a favorite beverage.

Yes, we had to unplug, but cell reception was. good, so we weren't completely out of touch.

We will be back, maybe during a warmer time and make use of the river a few steps from the cabin.

Year 2

  • 5 of 5

This was the 2nd year in a row my friends and I stayed here, and we hope to stay again next year. Plenty of room for yard games, like croquet or badmitton, easy access to the river which is very floatable in August. Takes about 2 hrs from the time the pickup car is dropped off, about 5 mins away, until we were back at the house. Multiple floats happened! BBQ, while well used, worked just fine to grill dogs and burgers. House stayed cool all weekend, and the temps were 80-85. Owner replied quickly to emails, and gave very detailed instructions and directions.

Owner's Response: Thanks, Andrew, for your kind review and repeat visit. We have now replaced the well-used grill with a brand new one, so dogs and burgers might taste even a little bit better. lol.

A Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5

We were 4 seniors wanting a quiet relaxing place to stay within easy driving distance from Seattle. This well kept home was just what we were looking for. Our 3 day stay was just not long enough, but we did take short excursions into Cle Elum, Roslyn and the Suncadia Resort. Everything we needed at the cabin was furnished and there was a comfortable summer breeze off the Yakima River. Decks front and back were ideal for just visiting and enjoying the outdoors. We would recommend this cabin for vacationers of all ages, and plan to return again.

This beautiful home is perfectly located near activities for all seasons.

In the winter, it is less than 30 miles from downhill skiing at the Summit at Snoqualmie. For those who want drier snow and smaller crowds, Mission Ridge is 85 miles away. There are numerous cross country skiing trails in the region and you can go snowshoeing right from the doorstep. Snowmobiling is also popular in the winter. There is limited access to some trails right from the property, and lots of snowmobiling trails nearby (make sure you have a current map to avoid closures).

When the snow melts in the spring, you can golf the spectacular new courses at Suncadia or the recently expanded 18-hole course just two miles away at SunCountry Golf. Hiking trails begin to open up and the there is plenty to explore in the valley and the towns of Easton, Cle Elum, and Roslyn (still thought of by some people as Cicely, Alaska, the home of “Northern Exposure”). The Roslyn farmers market is open Sundays from 10 – 2 between June and September, offering local produce, baked goods, and fine hand crafted products.

As it warms up to summer, there are amazing recreational opportunities in the area. The lakes and rivers offer swimming, boating, and fishing opportunities. Many people float down the Yakima River in their rafts and inner tubes. There are public access points a couple miles upstream (fishing access down a gravel road from the end of Hundley Road, permit required) and a few miles downstream (between I-90 and the railroad bridge). Since this vacation rental has beautiful riverfront, you can launch right from the property, or just sit with your feet in the water and watch others go by. Cle Elum throws its big Pioneer Days parade and celebration typically the weekend before the Fourth of July.

Fly fishing on the Yakima River is fantastic year round, and the fall is extra special. The river level drops when the irrigation season ends, creating easy walking access up and down the river to reach the big fish in the deep pools.
