Wonderful property and friendly owner

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for three nights with a group of six that included a four-month-old baby and a five-year-old. As others have pointed out there are a few things to be aware of, but overall we loved our stay and found the owner (Janet) to be extremely kind and generous with her time.

A few of our favorite things about the property:

* The cottage is on a large plot of land and feels very secluded. There are other buildings on the property (game room, barn, owner's house, chicken coop, goat shelter, etc.), but the cottage still feels private and the setting it very picturesque when you pull in.

* There are many dear roaming the property, as well as the chickens and goats kept by the owner. Janet was very sweet with our five-year-old, introducing him to "Salt and Pepper" (the goats) and letting him get an egg from the chicken coop for her.

* Having so much space and a variety of activities available meant we spent more time enjoying ourselves on site instead of running around the island. We played catch in the yard, visited the game room for ping-ping and pool, drove an r/c boat in the water right off the dock, walked over to visit the chickens and goats, and enjoyed dinner and wine on the deck at night.

I wouldn't consider the following items "cons" per se, just things to be aware of:

* The cottage has one bathroom that can only be accessed from the master bedroom. With four adults and a five-year-old, this meant whoever stayed in the master bedroom had to be okay with people coming in and out of the bedroom for late-night bathroom breaks.

* The property does have wifi/internet, but it offers just enough speed to check email and browse a few websites if you're patient. Anything more intensive (like streaming video) is a no-go, so if you're planning on having a "working vacation" keep this in mind.

* You may or may not have cell service in this area. In our group we had AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon users. We all seemed to flip-flop between "No Service" and one bar service depending on where we were in the area. Again, just something to keep in mind.

* The upstairs loft is great for kids (our five-year-old loved it), but the ladder access means it should probably be limited to older kids due to safety concerns. It's a steep climb up/down, and we didn't feel comfortable letting him sleep in the loft alone due to the fear of a fall during a late-night bathroom break.

Overall, a wonderful property. We would happily stay here again.

Family Trip/Get away

This property was awesome. The owner was so nice and very friendly. It was hard to find at first but we figured it out. The high tide and low tide was neat to see for people from Nevada. We had a very relaxing and fun time

A great house, great host and beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

Doesn't get much better than this. This is our second time renting this small house and we loved it even more than the first. This is a perfect place if you have a boat as the dock is a 2 minutes walk away. Janet the host is very kind and welcoming. Thumbs up all the way around.

Quiet well equipped darling cottage

  • 5 of 5

My family of four enjoyed staying here and having privacy from the chaos of the rest of our relatives at the big house. We arrived to local coffee beans and a bottle of San Juan wine. So nice. Everything is there for you from shampoo, conditioner and soap to all the kitchen staples. There is an ironing board and iron now. There is a full size washer/ dryer which was really nice to have. There is no dishwasher, no big deal for us as we cooked at the big house. I would say that the loft ladder may be appropriate for kids older than 5? My nephew had a little bit of a hard time getting down when he went up to check it out. I cannot see how in the dark a child who needs to come down that ladder could do so safely. My "kids" 24 and 27 loved sleeping up there. Janet provided fans and there are lots of windows to open in the heat. Just remember the frig is dorm size, and I am not sure that bed is a queen, we think it's a double. Cute back covered porch off the bedroom, we left the door open at night, the windows do not open except in the bathroom in that room, be aware, the deer like to come and peek in!! Very very soft bed. We did not use the pull out. It is pitch dark at night, bring a lantern for walks. We loved the privacy, the orchard and Janet bringing our family fresh eggs. I am sure we are staying again next year.
