About the property

NEW LISTING 2017....Located at The Ocean Inn on the Isle of Palms, this 2 bedroom / 1 bath upstairs condo is the perfect spot for a family who wants to have true get-away. The owners love their beach escape and take an interest in having it be a part of your family's experience. One of the best qualities of this condo is that it is upstairs which offers fantastic light and views. It is situated at a perfect angle to see our beautiful "lowcountry" sunsets. Decor throughout the condo is bright, "beachy", fun and casual. This is a place where you can truly relax.

The living area has a large TV with Comcast cable. Wi-Fi is also included. Out the window you will be able to see the pool, slightly obscured by the palms trees and poolside shrubbery. Let the teenagers have time to themselves by the pool while parents enjoy cooling off in the air conditioning. (The NEW air conditioning system was replaced in March.)

This is a split level unit with the kitchen, bedroom and bath all elevated a few steps up from the living area. It is this way because of the historical nature of the original building and the additions made to it in the 70s. It is thought that the original building was an old trolley stop with rooms for rent, located elsewhere on the island and moved here to create the Inn. We do know, from the original floor plans of the building, that the original floor plan looked almost nothing like it does now. Thus, small bedrooms and stairs in places one wouldn't expect but lots of character!

Up the steps from the living space, the full kitchen has new granite counter tops and a table to enjoy family dinners. If you want to cook, there are plenty of pots pans and utensils to do so. There is a full-sized fridge, plenty of dish- and drink-ware.

The bedrooms, though small, each have a comfortable queen bed, bedside table as well as bedside lighting. There's also a small closet.

Bathroom has a tub and shower combination and there is a new granite counter and new sink there as well.

Perfect Place on IOP

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time staying at the Sunset Overlook the end of August. It was the perfect size, very quaint, and just a short one block walk to the boardwalk to get to the beach. It was quiet, comfortable, and had everything we needed. Plenty of dishes, pots/pans, washer and dryer on the property and the pool was a bonus. Beds were comfy, and the place was very clean and nicely decorated, with plenty of places to hang your wet beach towels. Very family friendly. There is a nice little coffee/sandwich shop just across the back parking lot with very friendly people. The Acme Low Country Restaurant was one block away and had excellent food and drinks. The seafood was amazing there as was everything else and the wait staff was great. It was only about a 20 minute drive to downtown Charleston, which was beautiful or you can take the water taxi in to Charleston also. Everything we visited was within about a 30-40 minute drive, though you really have everything you need right on the island. The local grocery store is about 3 blocks away. Ben and Jerry's is one block away and the there were 3 places within 1-2 blocks away that had live music while we were there; 2 of the places were right on the beach. The beach was quiet during the week, but was busy on the weekend. Check out the sunset on the beach by Fort Moultrie and also at Memorial Park under the Arthur Ravenel bridge-beautiful. Sunrise and sunsets and sky on the IOP beach were pretty amazing as well. The Aquarium and USS Yorktown were both great. Lots of shopping at the City Market. Angel Oak Tree was pretty cool. Drove out to the Morris Island lighthouse; Folly beach was busier than IOP. We also checked out the Charleston Tea Plantation-very interesting. Beth the property manager was very kind and helpful with suggestions and always responded quickly to our questions by text. She also visited the property and made sure we had what we needed.

Wonderful family vacation spot

  • 4 of 5

Our family of 6 stayed at this condo recently, and we loved it! The pool was great, the beach was close, and shops/restaurants were all within walking distance. We even walked to church on Sunday morning! Inevitably, we always left something back at the condo once we had settled in the sand, but it was seriously only a 2 minute walk back to the condo. Whenever one of my boys needed to go to the bathroom, to the condo we went!

Beth was wonderful in helping us get settled and answering questions throughout our stay. It was nice to have a contact while we were there. The kitchen was somewhat updated and met our needs while we were there for the week. The pull-out couch wasn't the most comfortable, but we managed.

Owner's Response: We loved seeing your family here at The Ocean Inn! We're glad you found it easy to get back and forth to the beach and other places around us. It's nice to park the car and be able to walk. We have many return guests and we hope to see you here again in the future - it's a special treat when we get to see families grow up year after year. Nice place for the money, maybe wish we would have splurged on our stay.

  • 4 of 5

This is a tough place to review for me. It's one of those places that is nice (enough) and clean (enough). The price is great! Other condos that I found in the area are much more expensive and further from the beach.

We had a problem with our a/c not working and Beth (the property manager) got it fixed right away.. She really is great!

Things that we liked:

-the walk to the beach; in just a couple minutes we were there! Nice board walk for half of the walk!

-the pool was great - nice and clean. We really enjoyed the 'neighborhood' feel

-Beth was amazing! Every time we saw her during our stay, she asked if everything was good and gave suggestions on things to see and do. She really made us feel welcomed.

Things we didn't so much love:

-the size. This is a very small condo for 4 adults and 1 child. I think it's more suited for 2 adults and their kids. The beds were so close to the wall, it was difficult to get in/out without waking the other person.

-the furniture was a bit outdated. There are nice decorations and the paint is fresh, so at first glance, this place looks updated. Once you start looking, you can see that it is outdated- ceiling fan was loud, light switches not working, dirty vents/filters etc.

-the laundry. we kept finding hair in the sheets and towels.

Overall, we were happy with our stay. There were just those few items that kept me from giving a 5. If I ever came back to the area with just me and my spouse, we would give this condo another try.

Owner's Response: It is only through honest feedback that our accommodations can be the best they can be. Our number one priority is the comfort of our guests and I assure you that much effort is made to provide clean accommodations and provisions. Any lapse is certainly an unfortunate occurrence and we hope you will accept our regrets.. As mentioned, I am readily accessible and willing to address any resolvable issues as they arise. The listings can be tricky when determining size requirements and expectations since the only thing guests have to go on is square footage and photos. If a guest has a specific need or concern, they should feel free to inquire about any specifics so they secure the accommodations that will best meet their needs.

Owner's Response: We're glad you found your accommodations to be clean and comfy. The convenience factor is definitely a big bonus! I wish you had had better weather but there is so much to do in the area I was happy that it didn't seem to deter you from enjoying your vacation. We hope to see you again in the future! B.

Charleston Int'l Airport
Car: recommended

The Isle of Palms is a barrier island off the coast of South Carolina. The Ocean Inn is located in the business area of the island and is central to everything you need for a great getaway. Walk a 3-block radius and find shops, a 7-11, different types of restaurants, beach rentals, moped rental and coffee, not to mention Ben&Jerry's. If you like live music, The Windjammer, a beachfront bar and music venue, is within that radius. Many of our returning guests come specifically for events held there. Within a mile or two you will find a grocery store and another mile away you'll find a dog park and enormous playground for the kids to have a change of scenery and enjoy burning up that great energy they have. It will take you 20 minutes to get to Charleston - possibly longer depending on traffic and parking downtown - which is full of history, fabulous cuisine, and is rich in theater and entertainment.
