This 2 bedroom, 1 bath cottage is one of 3 on this large wooded property. It was totally renovated in 2012 with cabin themed color and decor. This cottage has one bedroom with a queen bed, the other has a full size bed (NOTE: had been twin bunk beds until 2018). The full kitchen is well equipped to cook all your meals. In the living room is tv/cable, books, games, and internet. The bathroom includes a shower (no tub). Outdoors is a flagstone patio with table and chairs and grill with a firepit close by for those evening marshmallows and s'mores. And there is room in the yard for kids to play while you relax in the hammock. All of this just a few blocks from town and the Straights. You can walk to the waterfront, restaurants, shopping, ferries to the Mackinac Island, and live music. Short trips by car are to Petoskey, Wilderness State Park, Tunnel of Trees, and the UP (Oswald's Bear Ranch, Whitefish Point, Tahquemenon Falls, Sault Ste. Marie). Also, just minutes away is the Headlands with its Dark Sky Park- a great place to watch meteor showers. Families with young children or teens, couples, and business travelers would all enjoy a stay here.

About Todd and Jacki VanHuis
We live 4 hours away downstate and bought this property in 2011 with the goal of renovating all 3 cottages on the property so that we could spend time with our 3 kids and their future spouses/families. Over a period of 22 months we made frequent trips up north to work on our "family retreat center", especially Todd who did the bulk of the work. Its was a fun project to do, and now we enjoy our time there with family when we can. Mackinaw is a where we vacationed each summer when our children were small, so it brings back wonderful memories each time we stay here.

Why Todd and Jacki VanHuis chose Mackinaw City
We love Mackinaw and the whole area. Its such a fun place to stay and its a great location to be able to visit other favorite place in the northern lower peninsula and the UP. This place keeps us off the beaten path just enough to have peace and quiet, but is a quick walk to town also.

Nice and comfy with decent size
We stayed at the cottage for a 3-day weekend. The cabin was nice and comfortable. In a quiet area but not far from everything. The weather was cold outside but the electric heater functioned very well. The cabin has everything we needed including all the cookware. Be aware that the shower only lasted 15 mins with decent hot water, as the owner indicated on the note. If you want to take another hot shower, give some extra time to the water heater. We really enjoyed the cabin. The only downside with us being tech savvy, the internet was a bit slow and intermittent.
Great little vacation cabin
Cabin was perfect, comfortable and convenient. Would definitely recommend it!
Cottage was perfect for us, we would definitely stay again. Only issue VRBO had checkin time of 4 PM and checkout time of 11 am in one section and then in another section checkin time was 3pm and checkout time was 10am. Other than that the house was clean and in a quiet location.
It suited our needs perfectly as we explored the surrounding area and Mackinac Island.
The cottage is really sweet and nicely decorated. We felt very welcomed and were given great info about the area including coupons.
Cute, cozy cottage in Mackinaw City.
Had a wonderful long Labor Day weekend staying at Cedar. Our objective was walking the Mighty Mac on Labor Day - our first time, awesome experience! The cottage is VERY well located. Walked to The Crossings - shops, restaurants, movies, fireworks, etc. Walked to the ferry. Walked to Fort Michilimacinac. Also enjoyed Discovery Park. Check out Weinerlicious! The cottage was clean, beds comfortable. Kitchen had all you need to cook a meal and lots of storage space. Shower is 'tight' - as noted by other guests but water pressure was fine and no problem with enough hot water. Also enjoyed the outdoor seating area. Thank you for the selection of books - I finished the vacation read I brought and was glad to have another one to start! Would definitely recommend this cottage and i'm sure the others at the property are just as nice. Thank you for this wonderful vacation spot!
Thank you for your kind words. We are very happy you had a great time and enjoyed Mackinaw City!
Sweet cozy little cabin
We are a family of four, two adults and two children. We stayed for three nights, Sunday-Wednesday in August. The cabin was very cozy. The bedrooms are connected by a sliding door and the bathroom is wedged between the kitchen and a bedroom so make sure you really like your travel companions. The kitchen has full size fridge, stove, microwave, toaster and sink (no dishwasher). Plenty of utensils, plates, glassware, pots, pans, etc. We shopped for food at home and brought it in a cooler. Location was great. We parked and rode our bikes most places. The house didn't have any firewood or matches/lighter but the neighbor had a stack of firewood for sale, grab whatcha need and put your money in the box ($5 a bundle). The kids were able to find enough small branches nearby to add to the fire. As for neighbors, we didn't see a soul; kinda weird for August I thought but then again we were there during the week. Overall we liked it a lot.
Numerous restaurants and bars, fudge and ice cream shops, souvenir shops, live music, marinas, ferries to Mackinac Island, waterfront parks, Fort Michilimackinac, movie theater, and area tourist attractions reflecting Mackinaw history.
