About Brian and Catharine

We (Brian, Catharine and Eloise) live in Thunder Bay and enjoy escaping to our cottage whenever we can. We love sharing our getaway with guests and strive to make your stay as easy and enjoyable as possible.

Brian and Catharine purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Brian and Catharine chose Ontario

A gorgeous lakefront property on spectacular north shore of Lake Superior. And yes we do have lake access right out front so you are welcome to bring your water toys, go for a quick dip or just sit on the shore and enjoy the view.

What makes this cottage unique

Quiet, private, peaceful getaway with all the amenities including a hot tub. Scenic hiking trails for all abilities overlooking Lake Superior and surrounding islands.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We stayed four nights at the Loon's Nest and we loved it. Such a quiet and peaceful setting, but close enough to Thunder Bay for everything we needed. We enjoyed the hot tub and walking down to the lake. We spent time at Kakabeka Falls, Ouimet Canyon and Sleeping Giant Provincial Park. Beautiful views and hiking trails. This is a beautifully decorated cottage with plenty of room + nice beds and it was great to have a washer and dryer too. My husband + I and our two boys (ages 15+17) had a great time exploring the area and we will definitely want to come back again. We also enjoyed the Diamond Willow Amethyst Mine and seeing the deer, foxes and a bear on the road.

Very Nice

  • 5 of 5

We had a very nice stay. The hot tub was wonderful, we used it each night. We saw wildlife at the cabin and on the road to the cabin. A bear actually walked through the driveway! Everything we needed was at the Loon's Nest.

quiet locale

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was beautiful and inviting. it was an experience in Modern day camping, we built a campfire, roasted hot dogs and smores, but when it was time to sleep and clean up, we had the modern convenience of running water, comfy beds, wi-fi and satellite tv. The cottage was perfect for us 4 (2 adults, 1 adult child and 1 14yr old) for space, and even when the boys had growing pains, they were able to move to the patio, the fire pit, or even walk down to the water.

We spent our days in Thunder Bay, doing all the tourist sight seeing activities, so by the end of the day we were exhausted and just wanted peace and quiet, which the cottage was perfect for us.

drawbacks were 1- the drive to the cottage was a little long, and narrow roads, BUT the flip side was the scenery was absolutely beautiful and green, along with always seeing wildlife along the road. 2-the bugs were terrible, but the locals in Thunder Bay said this year was terrible for the black flies everywhere, so bring bug spray along!! 3- the entrance to the lake was not easy: rocky, slippery, and tough, but we weren't there for swimming or fishing. SO to us the drawbacks were NOT issues for enjoying our time in Neebing.

Brian was true in stating, this is a wilderness area, and we DID see animals ranging from , deer, beaver, porcupine and bears along the roads, to chipmunks and fox on the patio! was a natural experience for our family.

The cottage was adorable, and fit our needs! thank you!

Charming getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely 2 night stay at the Loon's Nest in late December. The setting is extremely peaceful (lake view and hiking trails) and the amenities were splendid (decor, hot tub and kitchen). Thank you, Catherine and Brian! We hope to be back soon.

Very clean, comfortable, modern and true to what was promised in the description of the rental.

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful location, just far enough from the waterfront but close enough to enjoy the beautiful view. The natural surroundings are what make this property a truly relaxing experience, and it is definitely worth the drive from wherever one is coming from. The yard was neat and well-kept. The fire pits and BBQ well- maintained and everything was very presentable upon arrival.

The interior of the cabin was clean and comfortable. Everything was labelled, including drawer contents and light switches, which was very helpful! Instructions on how to use the heat systems, hot tub, electronics, appliances etc. were very clear. Very cozy, modern and beautifully furnished/decorated to set the mood alongside the natural surroundings. Additional helpful extras included games and movies for use, extra blankets and towels, bathrobes for the hot tub, common cooking/baking ingredients and a map to the nearby hiking trails.

Very pleased with the quality of our stay and will definitely recommend this spot!!

Great visit to the Loon's Nest

  • 4 of 5

We had a great stay at the Loon's Nest. A very nice spot. The online description was accurate and the cabin was clean and well maintained. We had nice walks nearby and enjoyed a visit to Fort William Historical Park and to both a local potter and a local cheese maker.
