About Gail Locati

We backpacked Kauai 35 years ago on our honeymoon and have visited from time to time. The incredible beauty of the island of Kauai compelled us to eventually want to retire here. Combined with the wonderful church families and friends we've met there, the weather, beautiful beaches, hiking and the locally grown fruits & vegetables @ the farmers markets, we are looking forward to that day.

Gail Locati purchased this condo in 2012

Why Gail Locati chose Princeville

Nihilani is the nicest, newest, and well maintained resort we stayed in. It is on the interior of the resort and is quiet and peaceful. The grounds are lush and our pool area with waterfall feature is the nicest of most resorts on the island. Our grown daughters love the area and will enjoy Nihilani with their families for years to come.

What makes this condo unique

This town home has the plantation style with all the modern amenities you will love while visiting one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Princeville vacation

Very nice rental unit, in a great area. This is probably the best stocked unit ( dishes, utensils, Pots, pans, etc.) I have ever stayed in. All water/ beach toys & chairs also were supplied with the unit and in great shape. We did not require during our stay, but was notified a couple of days prior to arrival that if we wanted the Air conditioning there was a $20 per day charge. I realize that electricity is expensive on the island, however $20 per day seems extreme and should definitely be posted prior to renting. Overall great unit and would highly recommend.

Owner's Response: Aloha Arnold, thank you for the great review, we strive to accommodate our guests with a clean and well supplied home so they have everything they would need to make their stay comfortable. On our website we mention that we have air conditioning and the "more" dropbox has additional information about the cost of running the central cooling system. We find that during the winter months in Kauai, the ceiling fans in all the rooms coupled with the portable fans, if needed, and trade winds, are sufficient and most guests wouldn't need A/C. This way we keep our rates competitive and affordable with beautiful accommodations on our favorite island. The Aloha Welcome Letter we send to our guests also has the air conditioning mentioned so guests can decide whether or not they want it. Our air conditioning central system does cost a lot to run and requires maintenance every now and again just to maintain it. Thank you again for your wonderful review. Mahalo, Gail Locati

From Property to Owner

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I had the good fortune to pick this property to stay at for our retirement vacation. We were impressed with the cleanliness of the property and how well supplied that it was. From the beach supply to the well stocked kitchen, where we could not find one item that was not supplied for our needs. We did have one issue where we had to contact the owner or the property manager and they contacted us immediately and acted quickly to correct our concerns. I would and will recommend this property to all that is considering going to Kauai. We simply enjoyed our stay beyond our expectations.

The house rules in the welcome letter were very specific and detailed (which I appreciated), but it also detailed every item in the home (including each decoration, towel, etc). I thought it a bit weird, but simply let it go.

When we arrived, the home was generally in good condition and clean (the carpets to protect the rugs were sloppy). It is a centre unit, so it is quite dark.

The pool area is exceptionally clean and well cared for. The rules at the pool are very strict, no loud children or 1) you will be warned and asked to leave, the first time, and 2) you will be fined and asked to leave the second time. We had no issues, but were very mindful of our kids laughing and playing.

Our first day there, the owner called and asked about the weather saying she was in Northern California. I described the weather in detail and she responded as if it were news to her. I asked about the 6 beaches within walking distance posted in the description and the owner said that they are all about +/- 2 miles from the home and you need to be in really good shape to get to them. This was not how the home was described. I told her that I wanted her to be aware that a chair was broken when we arrived and she said she was the last person at the home and that it was fine when she was there. She was quite rude and aggressive that this had not been done before we arrived. I took a photo and sent it to her to document the issue. She then proceeded to tell me that they were currently staying in a unit right behind us. This was so inconsistent with her previous questioning about what the weather was like in Kauai at the start of the call. I felt very uncomfortable in the home and wondered if I was being watched for the next few days. She then completed the call by suggesting we go to church in Lihue for their Christmas play.

Then, a few days later, she sent me an email about an appointment (it was the first I heard of it) for a person coming to the home. She asked if I would be there to let the service person into the unit for the appointment. I was shocked to have been asked and felt it was completely out of line. There was also a delivery made for her to the home while we were there. This did not feel like a rental - It felt like borrowing my mom's home with my mom staying close by and calling as desired.

Finally, the beach chairs were rusted, falling apart and very old. The home is nice, Nihilani amazing, but the owner is passive aggressive and intrusive.

Owner's Response: Aloha Carolynn - 74 other 4 & 5 star reviews speak for themselves. We're saddened that you did not feel comfortable during your stay in our home. We can't help but believe the real issue is your dissatisfaction with our inability to give you a late check our due to a back-to-back reservation. In fact you requested a late check-out no less than 3 times and each time we let you know it was not available. We can only presume that some of your comments were born out of miscommunication and we apologize for any part we had in that. By the way... the beach chairs were replaced shortly after your stay. The sand and salt air can make them look old in just a matter of a month or two. Aloha, Gail & Joe Locati

Awesome place to stay! It was home away from home.

We LOVED staying in this spacious condo in Princeville. It's such a nice, quiet neighborhood- we felt like we really got away from the hustle and bustle of the other tourists. The house was so clean and comfortable, nicely decorated. It also had so much to offer- like beach chairs, snorkels, all the dishes you could need, and an attached garage to park in.

Great location- It was so quiet and peaceful there, but close enough to the main road, restaurants and beaches.
