About Leah Murakami
I discovered the magic of Manzanita in 1996 when I was in Air Force flight training in Southern Oregon. On the weekends,we would take the opportunity to explore the Pacific Northwest. The most memorable was one to Manzanita. We flew into the small airstrip at Nehalem State Park (south end of Manzanita) and walked into town. Immediately I knew this town was very special. The beaches, the mountain, the sunset, the quaint town and all it had to offer were incredible. Years later, after having traveled extensively, I realized even more how amazing Manzanita is and decided it was the place I wanted to spend vacations with the family and friends... so I returned to find the perfect home for us. We found it! As with Manzanita, our home is unique and wonderful. We are happy to share it with you. It's perfect for a family vacation or a romantic getaway.
Leah Murakami purchased this House in 2004
Why Leah Murakami chose Neahkahnie Beach
Our home is located only a short walk to Manzanita beach, yet its tranquil and sunny location is sheltered from the wind by Neahkahnie Mtn. It's the perfect spot to relax after a day at the beach. The kids can play in the huge backyard with the swings, tree house, kids deck...while you relax in the house or our lovely main patio deck. We have Wi-Fi throughout the house and also the deck so you can work while sitting outside amongst nature. The town of Manzanita with its unique shops and restaurants is close. Manzanita also has an excellent 9-hole golf course. This town is surrounded by Nehalem Bay State Park to the south, with a boat launch, horseback riding, trails for hiking and biking, and Oswald West State Park to the north, with hiking trails and a spectacular surfing beach (Short Sands Beach). The trail head of Neahkahnie Mtn is only a mile from the house with a challenging hike that rewards you with beautiful views. There are endless things to do and see: clamming, fishing, hiking, mushroom hunting (best in the fall), biking, beach combing, golfing, horseback riding, shopping, day trips to Cannon Beach, Astoria, Tillamook..or just relaxing at the beach down the street or at our wonderful house.
What makes this House unique
Huge yard with tire swing, tree house. Fully loaded kitchen with rice maker, waffle maker, high end pots and pans, blender, griddle, much more. It's perfect for families with children, young and old. For families with small children, we have a jogger, small table and chairs, high chair, pack n play, toddler cot, safety railing for a twin bed and much more. If flying in, there's not much you need to bring. We have Wi-Fi, cable TV, lots of DVDs for the family. PERFECT and TOTALLY COMFORTABLE
Thank you Sharon. We are so happy to hear that you, your family and your dogs loved the house and the beach. Thank you for being great renters and good communicators. We hope you return!
Jones family "camping" trip!
Nice, but a couple of features were not available. Did not affect us, but a little disappointing.
Excellent choice for families.
Roomy and comfortable! Nice location and very responsive owner. Would definitely stay here again.
Thank you for the great communication and inputs. We appreciate it! So glad you enjoyed your stay!!
Great house! Great memories!
Our family really enjoyed staying in your beach house. So convenient and easy to find. It was very clean and had everything we needed for comfort and playing on the beach. All your helpful suggestions were wonderful! It was perfect for our grandkids. We will certainly be coming back!!
Thank you for being such great renters. I am so glad to hear you and your grandchildren enjoyed the house and the beach! Please come back!
Great family vacation spot!
A wonderful home for a famiky vacation. A bike ride to the beach and town. Plus a wonderful yard for the kids to play. Hope to be back.
So glad you had a wonderful vacation and enjoyed the house.
We hope you return!
Comfortable, cozy, great stay for kids and family :)
The space is really comfortable with large cozy couches that look onto two separate televisions and beautiful views of the neighborhood and Neahkahnie Mountain. So after a long day of playing it was nice to come back and let the kids watch a show while we relaxed in the other living room and still be able to see them. The backyard also offered an amazing play area for the kids. Our two boys could not get enough of the slide and tire swing! The fort in the trees was pretty cool, but the access plank was a little too narrow for the boys to go across by themselves (they're 5 and 3 years old) - I would recommend having an adult nearby if you have younger kids. The fire pit was a perk! We had fun roasting s'mores each night :)
The deck is really fun to sit out on and enjoy a family meal and to watch the kids play with a nice cup of coffee.
The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms had warm water and towels.
There are many charming paintings around the home and the decor was simple yet inviting.
The kitchen had most of the supplies we needed, but I would recommend bringing your own Tupperware or ziploc bags for food storage throughout the week. And if you're a big time cook, maybe one large pan and one large pot. But we easily made due without such things - there was enough on hand to get creative. There are also plastic bowls and plates and cups for the kids plus glassware for the adults - a nice balance. There is a dishwasher and plenty of dishwashing detergent packs.
The washer and dryer work great, but definitely remember to pack your own laundry detergent.
The house provides plenty of cupboard and shelf space to unpack your things and though some spaces are narrow within the house, we never felt cramped with 4 adults and 2 kids running around. Again, the backyard was a huge blessing with the kids.
The beach is a short drive or walk away. Same with the town.
There are so many great places to check out nearby! Short Sands Beach! Hug Point! All the cool vintage shops in Neahkanie, the fun Farmer's Market in Manzanita, and of course the incredibly beautiful stretch of Manzanita Beach - this is definitely a perfect house for a family wanting to enjoy a lovely stay on the Oregon Coast.
And Leah is so wonderful to work with. She is very communicative and so helpful. Truly a delightful person who cares deeply about the guests that stay in her lovely and charming home.
We will definitely be returning :) :)
Thank you so much for taking the time to write your review.
We just added the slide so I'm glad to hear it's being used and your children loved it.
I appreciate all your suggestions and am taking them to heart. Since your departure, we put up a railing on one side of the plank to the treehouse to make it easier for little children to cross but definitely agree it's for children older than 5 years old, unless accompanied by an adult or older child. We also added a toddler swing for the younger children.
We purchased glass storage containers for the renters to use to but think your suggestion of bringing additional ziploc bags is a great idea. Also, we have ample supply of laundry detergent. If you didn't have that, I am so sorry. I will make sure that the cleaners know they need keep a larger supply of detergent above the washer/dryer for longer stays. I want to make sure the renters have plenty of pots/pans for all their cooking needs..so I added some new ones to kitchen. Again, thank you for your suggestions.
I'm happy to hear that you explored the area and loved it...and enjoyed the house. You were wonderful renters and I hope you return.
Here's some information about things to do in or near Manzanita.
Oswald West State Park is located a few miles north of our house. This is a great place for the family, and one of our favorite destinations. The short walk from the parking lots to the beach is beautiful (rain forest with bridges, rivers etc) and the beach is wonderful.
Hug Point - about 10 minute drive north of our house on HWY 101. During low tide, you can go inside caves and see lots of sea life in tidepools.
Arcadia Beach - just north of Hug Point. It's best during low tide. Beautiful beach, lots of tide pools and large rocks jutting out of the water.
In Manzanita, you have everything you need from ice cream stores to very nice restaurants. You can go horseback riding, rent a kayak, rent a surfboard (Oswald West beach is great for surfing), go fishing in Nehalem River just south of Manzanita. The mountain you see from our house is called Neahkahnie Mountain. There's great trails to hike, and an amazing view of the coast.
Nehalem, couple miles south of Manzanita, is located on the Nehalem River which empties into Nehalem Bay. The river offers excellent fishing. The Nehalem Dock offers a small float with benches for sitting and enjoying the peace of the river (located next door to Nehalem Dock Restaurant). There is a public boat launch just south of Nehalem with a large parking lot and easy access for kayakers wishing to paddle on the river or up to the estuary at Wheeler. Wheeler, a few south of Nehalem offers several large antique stores. It's a small but nice town to visit.
Tillamook is about 30 minutes south and they have tours at the Tillamook Cheese factory. I prefer to be outside, but the kids enjoyed it. There is also an Air Museum in Tillamook.
If you chose to not go anywhere but the beach down the street, that's great too. The attached picture of my son walking on our beach at sunset.
