We live in Hacienda Iguana, Nicaragua. Our family purchased this home after visiting Nicaragua and discovering the amazing surf breaks of Playa Colorado and Panga Drops. We love enjoying everything Nicaragua has to offer.
Owner purchased this Condo in 2012
Why Owner chose Rivas Department
Why would you stay anywhere else?! Our home is literally on the sand so you can relax to the sounds of the waves after you surf until your arms are numb. This is not a typical rental because it's OUR SECOND HOME!

Fantastic, right on the beach!
Great condo unit but not ideal for folks who like to relax by a pool or who don't have a vehicle
The condo was everything promised and very comfortable. From inquiry to reservation the owners and staff were efficient and friendly. We enjoyed the deck with the exception of an hour or two each day when the surfing classes set up on the beach in front of the unit. It would get very loud as the instructors hooted and screamed encouragements to the students. A couple of times during our stay the water didn't work for awhile which was a bit of an inconvenience. We should have done more research about the size and distance between places in the complex and the dining opportunities there. We didn't want to cook and thought we would take advantage of the restaurants in the complex but without a vehicle and no public transportation in the complex it involved a fairly long walk. The closest restaurant(Mark and Daves?) is no longer open and the next closest restaurant was a half of a mile away and closed three of the five nights we were there. The other close restaurant was closed one of the nights and the next ones were a mile walk one way. The food at the restaurants was just OK and highly overpriced especially for what food elsewhere in Nicaragua costs. If you don't plan to do much cooking it would be best to have a vehicle while staying here so you can drive to restaurants outside of the complex. The pool was nice but there are no lounge chairs, just one table with dining type chairs beneath a pavilion. If you have a hammock or a small portable lounging chair I would bring it along so you can spend time outside. The beach was great for walking and you can get to Playa Gigante in about an hour walk. I encourage you to visit Playa Gigante and enjoy a delicious and inexpensive meal there. Visit the Monkey House and meet the owner Oliver, he's a great guy and awesome resource. This condo would be perfect for some folks it just wasn't the best for our family of four.
Wonderful little beach community!
We loved the vibe, community, golf, beach access, beach club restaurant and bar, volleyball, and our awesome condo. Thanks again for opening your home to us for some fun in the sun and relaxation! It was great to play all day and cook, bbq, play games and relax at night!
The Condo is in a very secure somewhat gated Community. It has a beautiful view of the Ocean and Sunsets. The beds were comfortable and the Condo was very spacious. The kitchen is well stocked with necessary utensils and cookware. The pans do need to be replaced but everything else was great. The rental was handled by NSR and they did an exceptional job of taking care of anything we needed. NSR was definitely a bonus for us. The maids come as often as you request and will also do laundry for you. They supply plenty of towels but they do not supply Beach Towels , you need to bring your own. We all enjoyed our stay here!
After a long day of traveling from New England and especially Managua, this was a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Travelled with wife & 2 young kids. Kids were thoroughly entertained by surfing & swimming at beach & pool the entire time. My kids were not bored once. Waves at Pangas were better & bigger than I anticipated considering it is the off-season. Highly reccomend hiring staff to guide you to & from airport...never would have found it without him. Not one complaint. Place was quiet even on the weekends & met other friendly guests as well. Will definitely be coming back. Roger, thanks for your quick email responses to all my questions and your staff's hospitality
We rented a car in Managua and arrived late at night (not recommended) after driving down many dirt roads, dodging the pedestrians, bikers, and oxen. We finally arrived at a very nice condo and were greeted by the maid. The place was emaculate and all we could ask for and we didn't venture too often or far after that because we didn't like the dirt roads. Every morning we walked down to the clubhouse where Marta made us an Acai bowl, a burrito and wonderful coffee. Dinner was also great there. Everything is inexpensive in Nicaragua compared to the States or Costa Rica. The Tona beer is great and only $1. The condo was great. The AC in the living area dripped, so we never used it… just AC at night in the bedroom was all we needed. Weekends the local nicas came and the pool area was much more noisy and busy, but weekdays were very pleasant. There were lots of towels, but perhaps bring a bar of soap and insect spray for the fleas on the beach at dusk. Maid service was great because of the tiny sugar ants in the kitchen… don't leave any food out and clean up after yourselves and you'll be fine. No other bugs this time of year. When we needed clothes washed, the maid did it for us at no cost. Weather was 91 every day we were there and the surf was mostly for beginners. I understand April brings big surf and much hotter temps. The people were very friendly. Roger, some chairs to take down to the pool/beach would be nice. We went to San Juan Del Sur one day and never want to return there as it is hot and dirty; lots of young people there though if that's what you want. We are glad we went and glad we chose Hacienda Iguana. I'm writing this from Costa Rica and missing the breeze and the cheap eats.
