The Flying Monkey Villa is a villa nestled in the beautiful jungle as it meets the ocean, with stunning panoramic ocean/jungle views from all areas of this luxurious villa. Enjoy the private 'never-ending' infinity pool from the lower bedroom level. Walk straight out onto a large deck and enjoy margaritas you can make at the built-in custom outdoor wet bar. Enjoy the lush tropical landscaping while sitting in the patio furniture, or floating in your private one of a kind vanishing edge swimming pool. Enjoy dinner a level up on your private wrap around deck with pass-through bar seating area, which includes a beautiful thatched palapa, to allow you to dine and visit well into the evening.
The spectacular pool and terrace add an additional 800 square feet of outdoor living space to total over 2700 square feet of indoor/outdoor living space.
The views from every room in the villa allow you to become one with the wildlife of Costa Rica. The Costa Rican wildlife is abundant, especially in the morning when the birds are singing and the monkeys are 'flying' tree to tree across the jungle just below your pool. Toucans and Aracari come by for a visit and the local iguanas will be sure to greet you, while you are sitting under the palapa or relaxing around your private pool.
The lower level includes two bedrooms, each with their own private full bathroom, with his/her sinks. The laundry room and a small living area (that fits a inflatable bed) is also on the lower level. The upper level of the villa includes a spacious living room, dining area, powder room and fully equipped kitchen with stainless steel appliances and granite countertops.
For dining enjoy a huge variety of cuisine at the local restaurants or create your own meals in your kitchen or barbeque on your deck.
The villa is located in a gated community with 24 hour guarded security, so you can rest at ease.
You will also have cable TV and a dock station for your Ipod or Iphone in the living room, as well as WiFi throughout the villa.
There is air conditioning throughout the villa, or you may wish to turn off the a/c and just open all of the screened doors and windows so the breezes and the sounds of the jungle are welcomed in.
Excluding the Holiday Season and Easter Week, your 7th night at the Flying Monkey villa is on us. Stay for a week and only pay for 6 nights.

We've traveled throughout several tropical countries before we experienced Costa Rica. We were mesmerized by the beauty of this lush destination on our first visit in 2007 and knew that we wanted to become part of this fabulous country. We have revisited Costa Rica on several occasions until we found the perfect home. We hope you love it as much as we do.
What makes this villa unique
Dominical is where the jungle meets the ocean. Having monkeys, toucans, aracari, iguanas, sloths and other wildlife in our backyard is amazing. We had the pool built in December 2012, which will make your experience at this villa one of a kind.... something to remember. Or adventure to one of the local unspoiled, secluded beaches - so rare in most parts of the world.

Thank you So very much for sharing your Amazing villa with us. We had such an incredible time – definitely not long enough but a good taster for us to know we absolutely want to come back to only Villa #3 (the Flying Monkey). The weather during our stay was hot and humid so we got a lot of use of the pool…. Our concierge, Raul, couldn’t do enough for us from beginning to end …. we will always treasure being our first holiday away together – and one that we are already planning on returning to continue to build upon …
We went horseback riding to the Nauyaca Falls where we enjoyed a Costa Rican breakfast and lunch with some white faced (capuchin) monkeys, macaw, peacocks and a toucan. The waterfalls were breath-taking and the 4 km. ride was not rushed at all. … Our spa day was at our villa where two lovely ladies … an amazing massage and wonderful pedicure. … We also enjoyed a morning stroll down to the beach across the road from our villa. … We went ziplining at Hacienda Baru, which is only about 10 minutes from the villa. This was another great experience in a UNICEF nature reserve where we saw sloths, agoutis and a friendly iguana who walked right up to us ...
We also arranged for a private chef to come in for two nights to prepare us a yummy meal … it was so nice to have someone shop and cook for you … We rented a 4x4 car and took a drive down the coast … within a few minutes of driving we got to see those Howler monkeys everyone has been talking about! … We went kayaking through the mangroves. We saw lots of wildlife including 3 or 4 sloths, monkeys and an assortment of birds plus a boa constrictor … then we raced home to catch the sunset.
The weather during our entire stay was hot and humid so the pool was our point of refreshment coming home and then spending hours on end just soaking up the scenery and talking about our adventures that day…
We couldn’t have asked for more of our stay in your villa and we definitely plan to be back again real soon as we know there is so much more of this amazing place to explore.

An unforgetably stunning tropical paradise
I find it difficult to find words that will truly describe the incredible beauty and serenity of the Flying Monkey Villa in the middle of the jungle. It comes with a stunning vanishing edge pool and all the amenities and comforts of home complete with the plastic blender In the poolside bar. The house is beautifully appointed with everything you could possibly want.From the deck overlooking the jungle to the breathtaking ocean view, I saw monkeys and Tucans, lots of iguanas and a sloth. A quick walk to the beach provided the only exercise I was looking for. Although the horseback riding on the beach was a bonus and the amazing birdwatching kept me entertained while lounging by the pool. Groceries and other little necessities were easily accessible either in the local village, Domonicalito, or just down the road in Dominical. I found it really helpful to have had a four-wheel-drive for exploring the surrounding hills an incredible views, and for the ride up to the incredibly entertaining bar The Jolly Roger. I would recommend this to anybody looking to enjoy a tropical paradise in the middle of the jungle, with all the comforts of home. The Palapa off the kitchen, complete with a beautiful barbeque, provided incredible evening breezes and a perfect place for a breakfast with nature.My only regret is that my 10 days is over and I have to go back home. But I will return!! Mark my words. It's my delight to provide this recommendation whole heartedly and unreservedly. Thank you so much Ian and Phyllis for leaving such an amazingly clean, well appointed and welcoming home away from home. The quick 30 minute airplane to San Jose was really convenient! . Pura Vida all the way!!! Gracias y adios!
Unbelievable!!!
As soon as you open the door to the Flying Monkey it takes your breath away! What a view! Everything you could ask for & more. You wake up every morning looking out onto the ocean & at night you have the waves lull you to sleep. Every evening we watched the red sun set while lounging in the infinity pool. And all the great little hideaways you can go to for a night of great food & entertainment. Having breakfast on the deck & watching the monkeys make their way through the trees or watch a toucan feed her young was awesome! It was a vacation to remember & hope to make it back again soon. Wonderful memories that will stay with us always.
Everything We Could have Imagined.....and MORE!!!!
Our stay at the Flying Monkey was incredible. We were two couples traveling together and this villa has everything we could have wanted or needed. The concierge was so helpful setting up excursions and adventures. We enjoyed coming back to the villa at the end of the day to float in the vanishing edge pool while enjoying the incredible sunset.
We will definitely be back. Thanks for sharing your beautiful villa with us.
We Love the Flying Monkey
This was our second holiday at the Flying Monkey and once again, we stayed for two weeks. This place is incredible. We travelled this time with our two young children and could not have asked for more. What a great place for a family. Our son basically lived in the pool, and because of its easy access from the bedrooms, our baby girl could be sleeping, while we were with our son at the pool. Bedtime with small children works great as we could be on the pool deck enjoying a swim and the sunset while they were asleep just inside.
We are always amazed at how well kept this villa is - in our opinion the best villa in Canto del Mar. The view is unbelievable, the pictures do not do it justice. We always feel safe and so comfortable in this very private villa. The villa is constantly being updated and well maintained.
We always find it hard to leave this paradise, but we know we will be back, so that helps.
We can't wait to return to the Flying Monkey.
Beautiful view and pool - house left some things to be desired
The reason that I gave the Flying Monkey a three star review is because there were too many little things that could be improved upon but for which there wasn't a resolution during our visit. As we were staying over the Christmas holidays and were paying a premium for our stay, the house simply fell short.
First, the positives. Raul the concierge was incredibly responsive to our emails, phone calls and requests before and during the visit. No complaints here. Security was always present. You don't really hear your neighbors too much. The views are wonderful, as is the pool and the outdoor spaces. The pool is a good size and deep. Definitely the highlight of the stay.
Here is where the house fell short:
- Significant smell of mildew prevalent throughout the house and in the drawers (including on extra towels and bedding). There are mold spots all over the back of the curtains in one of the bedrooms.
- cleanliness was inadequate upon check in (example: I had to rewash the bedding).
- Bare bones supplies: no hand soap in any of the bathrooms, no extra rolls of toilet paper, no garbage bags, no dishwashing liquid, etc....basically no supplies to even get us started (not the norm compared to other vrbo rentals that we've experienced).
- poor water pressure throughout (most noticeable in the showers) with inconsistent hot/cold water. The shower head in the queen sized bedroom was essentially nonfunctional and needs to be replaced asap.
- Almost all of the extra bath towels and some hand towels had bleach stains all over them.
- Loud traffic noise from often-times busy road below (including loud trucks). Takes away from serenity.
- Pictures on the site are from a few years ago. The trees in front of the pool deck have since grown taller and block a lot of the beach below. Still pretty, but not an accurate representation.
- Side upper deck with table for outdoor eating is right in front of the neighbors living room. Might not bother some people, but for us it did not feel very private.
Incredible Trip
Everything exceeded expectations which was really hard to do given the pictures of this listing. The view is just incredible and we enjoyed every second of it. It is a truly special place.

Within walking distance of your villa, explore Poza Azul - a beautiful waterfall and swimming hole. Or you can explore miles of sandy beaches - Playa Dominical, Playa Dominicalito, Playa Hermosa, Playa Ballena (Ballena National Park), Playa Ventanas - to name a few. Zip lining within 10 minutes, and only 25 minutes away is a great horseback tour to the Nauyaca Falls. Manuel Antonio National Park and its beaches are only 45 minutes away.
