About Jan Sparks
Jim and I grew up together in Cincinnati, Ohio. He has worked in the telecommunications field his entire career. I have worked mostly in accounting but recently retired. One of our daughters is local and works as a massage therapist, herbalist and educator in those fields. Our other daughter lives with her family in the northeast. We lived in the Dallas area for 9 years before coming to Asheville. What a change of pace! We have always wanted a log home and feel we hit the jackpot. We have worked hard to get it to where it is but we couldn't beat the location. We love the peace and quiet, the friendly and laid back attitude, and the quirkiness of Asheville. There is always something to do, learn, and participate in. This photo was taken during a hike in the Pisgah National Forest near Brevard by some visiting friends. We enjoy when our friends and family can visit in our mountain home.

Why Jan Sparks chose Asheville
We have always wanted to live in a log home. We had visited our daughter here several times and enjoyed it. We had considered starting a bed and breakfast, attended a workshop, researched and evaluated the time and economic commitment, and put it on hold. We decided to look for a vacation/ retirement home while we were in Dallas. Then, Asheville was listed as one of the top ten cities in which to live, and my husband's employment changed which allowed us to move wherever. We started looking in Asheville and found this gem. As soon as we drove up, we knew this was it. It was private, quiet, and was a short drive to town, the grocery store, and Home Depot. The story of the owners and the building of the cabin was as interesting as the cabin was sound. And, it had 2 fireplaces and a 2-car garage! We went for it and then the renovations started. It is now almost complete, however, we are always finding a new project. Meanwhile, we got involved with a hiking group, line-dancing, wine-tasting and I learned to reupholster furniture. Whenever we get a chance, we take in a concert, go to the farmer's market, or take advantage of our Biltmore membership and visit the gardens or a new renovated room. However, we never tire of cozy nights by the fireplace, dinners on the deck, walks through the woods, and listening to the hoot owl or watching the hummingbirds.
What makes this Apartment unique
When we purchased our home there were 3 porch swings, one on each deck. The ladies who owned the house were sitting on the front porch chatting. We have always had a porch, but three? The house was not a log home kit. The logs were cut and chinked. The chinking was visible on the inside too. The stone fireplace and the golden hue of the logs felt cozy as soon as you walked in. The ideas for renovations to enhance the beauty and aesthetics of this house was immediate in both my and my husband's mind. The idea that we could have this privacy and the amenities that the house offered, but also the community of neighbors and the closeness to the activities and places that we wanted to go to was just perfect. We were lucky enough to be able to buy it and have since made it truly ours.
