What a beautiful place to spend a weekend!! I wish we had more time.
What a wonderful place to spend time with friends and family. The property and lodgings are beautiful. I will definitely recommend it to others.
We spent a week at Oak Grove Plantation in June with daily visits from our grandson and his mom. Our grandson called it the farm and ‘Farmer George’ was an amazing host taking us on a tour of all the farm animals. He let our grandson feed the fish and the chickens and even took him into the hen house to gather eggs (which we ate each morning thereafter). The farm peacock showed the full glory of his tail feathers every time we were around him. What a show. At least twice every day, we wandered through the beautiful gardens designed and lovingly cared for by Liz. They were magnificent. One day, Liz brought us a gorgeous arrangement of cardinal red gladiolas which we enjoyed for the rest of the week. We all swam in the pool every day. The pool was surrounded by a beautiful garden. The cottage where we stayed was the former slave quarters for the plantation and we couldn’t help feeling like there was history all around us. We spent many relaxing hours on the screened-in porch that spanned the length of the cottage. Our favorite food places were Casablanca Burger Cafe in Palmetto (yum and more than burgers), Kakao Café in Tyrone (great Churros, coffee, Latin breakfast and more) and Spezzano’s Meat Market in Tyrone (great sausage and baby back ribs among other things). A fun time was had by all!
Our trip to Atlanta last summer was the highlight of our year because of Oak Grove Plantation. Our five kids went back in time and discovered nature, history, and family adventure. Our favorite Oak Grove activities were nature hikes, exploring the grounds, waking up and sitting on the front porch with a cup of coffee, collecting chicken eggs, playing in the Victorian playhouse, visiting the old family graveyard, feeding the horse apples, afternoon swims, enjoying the nostalgia of the railroad, and antique shopping in nearby palmetto. We stayed in the cottage which is separated from the main areas and perfect for families. We are already making plans to come back this summer. I recommend this rental to anyone who appreciates gardens, history, and peace and quiet.
