We stayed at the Crimson Cottage for our daughter's graduation from the University of Alabama. The house was absolutely charming. We were intrigued by the architecture and the host mentioned that it was built about 50 years ago by a Frank Lloyd Wright apprentice. So not only was it charming, but it had some historical significance if you're interested in the history of game-changing architecture. The house was remodeled a couple of years ago, and the kitchen and bathroom were very modern. The rooms were good-sized (there were 5 adults, two married couples and one single kid), and we were all very comfortable. This is truly a hidden gem in Tuscaloosa. We had one slight problem with the locks, but the host took care of it immediately, even though it was almost 10PM at night. They were REALLY great. We wish we had found this place BEFORE our daughter's last weekend in Tuscaloosa! Thank you so much to the host for a great stay.

Unfortunately the longer we stay in this house the more we realized how uncomfortable and unfinished it is.I hate to say that but this house is not ready for rent.Is unfurnished and unfinished still in process of renovation. There is no nightstand in one of the bedroom, no nightstand lamps, only one in the master bedroom.5 hungers in a main bedroom, no hangers at all in additional bedrooms, No closet doors, no ceiling fans ,not to mention everything works the opposite way:front door lock, water valves in the kitchen and bathroom, which is very confusing. Most of the lids in kitchen don’t match the pots. The fire alarm is installed above the oven and goes off every time I open the heated oven. The linens and the pillows are incredibly uncomfortable, very poor quality. The headboard in the „master bedroom” is squeaking every time you move because is not attached to the frame, The bathroom door is constantly going out of the rails track and my daughter needs to ask for help to open them several times a day. There is no laundry basket, no vegetable peeler, no strainer, no aluminum foil, no plastic food foil, no small plates. Everything is very limited. Most of the windows in the living room have broken glass and are very dirty. The house needs a pressure washing and so much more…We were not aware that we rented a house which is still under construction. The only positive thing I can say is that the hosts were Ok. We booked this house for 9 nights after 4 we left.

The photos shared depict areas prepped for refurbishment. Rescheduling our work crew to accommodate your reservation request was referenced in our VRBO communication. Subsequently, the work crew was able to repair the few cracked windowpanes and other areas at the rescheduled appointment, following your stay, including damages sustained during your stay. None of your complaints have ever been mentioned by previous guests. Your requests for vegetable peeler, cutting boards and electric kettle, none of which are standard for a short term rental, were promptly filled, though not a part of our amenity description, nor acknowledged in your review. You also failed to acknowledge the delivery of an outdoor grill, which fullfiled the description of our rental. The bathroom door was in perfect working order prior to your stay but broken when you left. Only mishandling of the door would have produced this type of damage. Cookware does have matching lids, in addition to pots without lids. Oven and smoke alarm were tested after your departure with no incident of alarm or malfunction of the newly installed oven.

Why they chose this property

We chose this home because of the serene, tree-lined property, it is an unexpected retreat.

What makes this property unique

The mid-century modern home was designed by local architect Don Buel Schuyler, who studied under Frank Lloyd Wright. He is well known to the Tuscaloosa community and had his hand in designing several buildings on the University of Alabama campus.
