About Paul Noblett

We are a retired couple from the Toronto area who are both water signs. We enjoy nature, hiking, kayaking, snorkeling, bird watching and being cozy in front of a fire with a good book. I love lobster and he loves fresh fish and we both enjoy a good restaurant.

Paul Noblett purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Paul Noblett chose Halifax

In the summer of 2012, we returned to the Maritimes where we had previously enjoyed many holidays. We love the food, there is lots to do and Nova Scotians are some of the nicest and friendliest people we have ever met. We rented a house for a week, did a lot of and loved the attractions of One day we passed this cottage and as they say, it was a 'coup de foudre' Within a week, we had purchased Driftwood and had started plans for paint colours, furniture and a new kitchen while retaining the unique character of the cottage

What makes this cottage unique

The views of the ocean from the Great room and kitchen and especially the Master bedroom sold me and the woods and proximity to the ocean appealed to my husband. The floor plan is perfect for just the 2 of us, but also provides great accommodation for friends and family.

Driftwood is on a seldom traveled, no exit road, with ocean in front and forest behind and is therefore very calm and peaceful. However, the house is located 45 minutes from Halifax and even closer to Chester (20 min), Lunenberg and the town of Mahone Bay with restaurants and shopping and fascinating history.

In this area, there are some of the best hiking and biking trails in Nova Scotia. And of course there is the ocean for swimming, shelling, kayaking and sailing.

Beautiful setting in a peaceful environment

  • 5 of 5

Where do i start... my family and i have rented numerous times from VRBO and have always been happy with our rentals but Driftwood is the best place we've ever had the privilege of renting. From the moment we drove around the bend and saw the charming cottage we were hooked lol. Our daughters loved their bedrooms, the whole cottage is decorated so beautifully with art work, comfortable chairs and couches not to mention all the lovely pillows. Have to mention how well stocked the kitchen was, my husband and I love to cook and for once we did not do without, everything we could need was there for our convenience. The grounds are just as pretty with all the different perennials they have planted, we loved walking around and everything was in bloom pretty, I did take numerous pictures and some ideas to use in my garden. We spend a lot of time walking the beach and have become sea treasure collectors, and just sitting on the deck watching the sunset was bliss. We found that Driftwood was in a good location. We were close enough to everything we wanted to do, a trip to Halifax for the day, Hubbards for lobster dinner, the Shore Club is a must, numerous beaches and Lunenburg and Mahone Bay are not too far away. This was our first time to the East coast and Driftwood made it a memorable one.

Thank you very much for allowing us the pleasure of staying in your home.

Amazing cottage period!

  • 5 of 5

You know when you book a cottage online and you have the feeling in your stomach because you hope it's as good as it looks? Well I get that all the time...but let me tell you when we drove over 2100 kms and pulled into the driveway of this place we were blown away! What a beautiful place!! The entire property was gorgeous with flowers gardens, vegetables, 3 different bbqs, sitting areas, campfire area....and the list goes on! The inside of the cottage is amazing with beautiful paintings and decorations everywhere and the master suite on the top floor with a view of the ocean and a deck....WOW! My whole family had a great time and we would highly recommend this place. Paul the property manager was awesome on the phone and email. This is definitely a gem and worth 5 stars!

Everything you could want!

  • 5 of 5

This beautifully designed, charming, clean and fully stocked, haven of rest is centrally located to day-trip all around the South shore and into Halifax. There is a back porch that looks over the sea and we ate all our dinners out there as did the kids play cards out there. It is located on a dead road and the kids loved going down to the shore to collect sea glass and shells on low tide. They saw lots of sea stars and some jelly fish, and many interesting marine birds. Fishing boats came in and out and the stars were incredible. The kids loved playing ping pong in the back "barn" and we could easily bike down the road from Blandford to new harbour, along the shore, without worrying about traffic. There was a book and a pile of maps left by the owners directing us to loads of nearby attractions, with personal comments and recommendations. We ate seafood chowder at "The Deck", a local restaurant, a five minute drive down the road and met Annie, who grew up in the cottage that we were renting. Other things we did nearby: hirtlesbeach/gaff point hike, Peggy's cove lighthouse and polly's cove hike beside it, lunenburg and the fisheries museum, Halifax and the citadel, Pier 21, and the Atlantic fisheries museum, donuts and lemonade on the dock (wanted to go into the art museum and see Maud Lewis's house but ran out of time), and biked and swam at tancook island. We ate loads of mussels, scallops, and fish. It was so much fun and we would recommend this cottage to anyone.

excellent stay

  • 5 of 5

'Driftwood' is on a quiet Ocean Bay with restful views. This recently renovated and beautifully decorated home has a comfortable casual elegance. The cottage is situated on a spacious mature landscaped property. The setting provides privacy, quiet, peaceful ocean views and some amazing sunsets. It is only a 25 minute drive to Halifax or Lunenburg featuring an abundance of great restaurants, museums, entertainment , shopping and one of the largest city waterfronts walkways in the world.

The Cottage will provide you and your guests with relaxing days and pleasant evenings whether dining on the upper patio or resting on the stone patio watching the deer and pheasants while waiting for our spectacular sunsets. This is the perfect vacation home for a family of four and will play a large part in your memorable Maritime vacation.

Perfect location

  • 5 of 5

Our family, two adults annd two teenage girls, spent 2 weeks in July, 2014 at this superbly decorated cottage. We live in France and most houses are not decorated with such grandeur let alone a cottage. Every modern convenience is provided in an atmosphere that looks like it should be in a decorating magazine. The master bedroom on the upper level with ensuite bath was perfect for my husband and I while our children thoroughly enjoyed their own bedrooms and bathroom on the ground floor. Bedding, beds and couches were all high-end and extremely comfortable.

We had breakfast and evening cocktails on our lovely upper bedroom deck overlooking the ocean. What a spectacular view with breathtaking sunsets!

The open-concept kitchen is fully equipped and the modern barbeque was also put to good use.

We enjoyed the firepit at night especially watching our French children discover smores and fireflies for the first time. The location is perfect for daily excursions: Peggy's Cove, Halifax, Mahone Bay, Lunenburg, etc. We also visited Sand dollar beach (and yes we found many sand dollars), went kayaking and enjoyed the nature trails in the vicinity. The owners have left an extensive file of things to do in the area. We also had some lazy days at the cottage, enjoying the deck, kayaking or playing ping pong.

Thank you for sharing your lovely home with our family, it was an amazing and memorable vacation. Merci Beaucoup!

Upper Blandford Road, located just off the Lighthouse Route,is a quiet, no exit, coastal road frequented more by walkers and cyclists than by motor vehicles. Driftwood sits on a large lot, which allows you to enjoy the wildlife, assorted water fowl and garden birds.

There is direct access to a stony beach and kayak launch area.

On the way to Blandford village you will find and a convenience store/cafe, The Deck which serves a great clam chowder. Annie White is the proprietor. Tell her where you are staying: Driftwood was once her family home.

Just 10 minutes away is Bayswater Beach, renowned for its lovely, sandy, crescent shaped beach. Just past Bayswater Beach, on the way to Hubbards, is Shatfords, where you can pick up lobster and other fresh fish.
