About the property

Deep water island escape.

This classic property is located in the South Edisto area. Just above the Ace Basin Nation Wildlife refuge. This seven bedroom, five bath house boasts an 180˚ waterfront view of Sandy Creek. It has a deep-water dock and at high tide a boat ramp. The house also faces southwest providing an amazing view of the sunset, from the porch or decks. There is a sand bar visible at low tide. And fishing, crabbing, kayaking, canoeing are some of the great things to experience here. The house has a game room with pool, ping pong, and foosball tables etc. It is located only seven minutes from the beach and just a few from the Old Post Office Restaurant. Edisto is one of the last remaining quaint beach areas.

Awesome house for big group

  • 5 of 5

This house is great for a large group. If you love beautiful sunsets, dolphins and other wildlife, this is the perfect place. You feel like you're on your own little island with all amenities close by. We've rented this house a few times and have never been disappointed. We take our boat and run the creeks, go to a sand bar on the sound or hit the open waters of the atlantic. If you're looking for a laid back, worry free, fun time, this is the house to rent!

Truly A Diamond in the Rough

  • 5 of 5

I almost hate to leave this review, as it probably means I'll never get as good a deal on this property again.

We stayed here with five families (24 people). It was extraordinary. The owner was happy to work with us and communicated well with us in preparation for it.

I think if they took updated pictures of the inside of it they could probably double the rent price. Case in point, the other families were hesitant on my find, but were thrilled when we got there.

They're was plenty of beds available (and floor space for the kids without beds.) The inside is updated and nicely furnished.

The basement area was fairly open with ping pong, foosball, etc. The only oddity there is that you need to walk outside onto the screened porch to take the stairs down to the basement.

The stand on the top of the house was a great place to eat and view the peaceful river. As the owner said, the bugs were surprisingly not bad at all due to the steady breeze. There was also a really cool playground/ rope bridge play area in the backyard that the kids loved to use. While we didn't take too much advantage of the volleyball court, we were expected to use it a lot when we first arrived. Instead we played a lot of hide and go seek, etc.

Our kids (and we) spent a ton of time swimming in the water off the dock and using the rope swing to jump in. (just typing this I'm feeling nostalgic) There's a never ending system of rivers and tributaries to kayak, canoe or paddle board.

The tide changes the river depth by at least 10 feet (fascinating). It provides a strong current in for 6 hours and then a strong current out. Life jackets are a must. I regret we never timed it right to have a super long lazy river experience down and back on the river.

One thing to note: we had thought Edisto Island would be a great place to bike and spent a considerable amount of time and energy packing bikes. It really wasn't great for that. The sand makes it tough to ride for kids and the bike paths in town are simply a narrow shoulder off of the highway. The bikes were a mere distraction to the amazing river and ocean experience.

Also, don't try shrimping off the dock. the nets will get torn up.

The ten adults would spend their evenings playing games around the large dining room table. And we enjoyed a talent show in the large family room at the end of the trip.

Great times. This was an ideal place for multiple families. Definitely 5 stars!!

A Favorite!!!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this home for our week long family vacation about 15 years ago. Some of my best memories of Edisto Island were made here. The highlight of our trip was watching the dolphins come into the creek to feed. The views are amazing! It is so peaceful and quiet here, makes you feel like you have your own private island. We spent the majority of our evenings on the massive screened porch. Aaahhh.....the memories!

Excellent family vacation for a large group

  • 5 of 5

Our group consisted primarily of adults and young adults, with two wee ones. My husband and our 6 kids and partners had an amazing time. The kids (15-24) didn't want to leave the property. They fished all week long. My favorite spot was the upper screened porch with the billowing screens and hammock. The young adults loved the rooftop deck. The basement 3 bedrooms and game room were rustic. This was a house you could totally relax in. We loved the history of the house, and felt we were a part of the many good times shared there. I purchased and brought many spices and condiments to find if I'd just opened a cabinet door, I had everything I would have needed. The view was spectacular, although the dirt roads in were a tad rough. :-). Keeps out the ill tempered and fussy people. I can't wait to come back. Thank you for sharing your awesome home.
