Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a GREAT time at your lovely chalet. It was exactly as pictured, and very cozy and comfortable. We had all rain and cold weather, but we didn't mind a bit. Just snuggled up with books and alternating cups of cocoa and glasses of wine. Lovely!

The nicest surprise was the wonderful dog tie-out. We weren't expecting such convenience! It was so nice just to step outside and hook the pooch up. After one high-energy run down to the end of the line (and subsequent flight), she got the hang of it and enjoyed having some freedom.

We would love to return another time when the weather permits us to wander a bit further.

Immaculate, quiet, and relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

This is our 3rd stay at Little Bear Lake House. Everything was perfect. The house was super clean as always, equipped with everything we needed, and the lake as beautiful and as quiet as always. Cannot say enough about the owner Steve and his LBLH!

Just my husband, me and our dog on this trip. The house is very clean with lots of space. We found the king bed to be comfortable & slept well. The water pressure in the shower was a nice surprise. The lake level is high, so there was only about a 6" beach. We spent most of our time on the small dock, reading and fishing. The lake has a hard bottom & is nice for wading. Since there was not a beach, we used a little stone ring in front of the house to have bonfires on a couple of evenings. Glad we brought our own kayaks since the boats provided were in a difficult place for one man to get into the water & back up again. We didn't have any need to contact the owner. There are a number of things that could be done/provided to make the place more comfortable - most of them inexpensive and some included in previous reviews. Overall, we made the best of it and had a much needed relaxing vacation.

Owner's Response: This past year, the lake levels have risen to heights that we have not previously experienced, which unfortunately has consumed our beach. This resulted in the need to store the boats on the retaining wall at the beach, so that they could still be accessible without floating away. In addition, we had to move the fire pit. I am glad that you were able to make use of your own kayaks, and were able to make the best of things. This is our first 3-start review across any of the three properties that we own and operate. Ironically, this home is known to be the "favorite", and usually receives a five star review.

Vacation with 4 kids

  • 3 of 5

First comment is..this cabin is beautiful. Wonderful decor, very open atmosphere. The owner is very responsive. We contacted him several times and he responded very quickly. The cabin is very child friendly, right down to the outlet covers on the plugs. The twin beds even had waterproof covers on them just in case your little one has an accident.

However, we did have a few issues. When vacationing with children, playing in the water is very important. The kids had a wonderful time the first day but later that night they started complaining that they were itchy. They all had swimmer's itch (jigger bites), one of the kids had over 100 bites. I contacted the pharmacy and they suggested we buy some desitin because it has zinc oxide in it and cover the kids in it. That would prevent future bites.

Our other concern were the beds. The mattresses are very thin and uncomfortable. We woke up the next morning and went to Meijer to buy a thick mattress pad to sleep on.

I want to end this review letting you know that we did have a good time but we suggest to other renters to bring a mattress pad to sleep on and something to prevent your kids from getting swimmer's itch. I was unsure if I should write this because it is a beautiful cabin, but I also want other renters to pack accordingly for their vacation.

Beautiful View, Clean and Spacious

  • 4 of 5

We loved our trip! We have two young girls and the beach was wonderful for them to play in. The house was completely furnished with anything you would need. The one thing that we had a hard time with was the King and Queen beds not comfortable at all.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the great review. I will be sure to address the issue with the beds. We hope to have you back again soon!

Wonderful and very clean cottage

  • 5 of 5

Little Bear Lake house was gorgeous, very clean, with great decor and loved the layout of the cottage. All you need to pack is clothing and groceries. It was fully equipped with everything you could possibly need. Beautiful views of the lake from the living room and kitchen. Very open floor plan. Enjoyed sitting on the kitchen island for our meals with a view of the lake. Great, large deck as well, but we were there during a cold front so we didn't get to enjoy eating or sitting much outdoors. We did spend a lot of time fishing and caught quite bit. Nice evenings with a bonfire. Steve, the owner is wonderful to work with. He was just a phone call away for any questions or concerns. I highly recommend this cottage. Despite the not so great weather, we still had an amazing time and would love to come back.
