This comfortable home has 4.5 bedrooms; three (3)very large bedrooms with queen beds, one (1) bedroom on the ground level with twin beds -perfectly located for extra privacy, loud teens or loud snorers!, and a cute (.5) bedroom nook with custom bunks on the main living area for the younger kids. There is an extra roll-a-way-single in the master BR also on the main living area. There is a deck outside of each upstairs bedroom and a large rear deck off of the OPEN STYLE indoor living area. There are two full baths and a private, refreshing outside shower. Linens and towels can be rented from Boomersrentals.com; they deliver and pick up.

We have a boat dock on a deep water canal that has access to the Intracoastal waterway. We are a close walk to the beach (284 yards) and the public pier (add 50 feet). Our place is designed to give you the whole Holden Beach experience.

As you approach Holden Beach Bridge, you will notice a shopping center with Food Lion grocery, Walgreens, Subway, Dominos pizza and other convenient stores. A little furthur, you will see Banks, Resturants, Arcades, Coffee Shops, Boat Rentals, Beach-wear stores, Hardware Stores and many other stores catering to you the vacationer. Anything else you need is in Shallotte...just 10 miles away. At the base of the bridge on the Island (a block to the left), you can find restaurants/bars and beach equipment rental stores .

At the base of the bridge turn right. As you drive toward Something Fun, you will notice to your left, (just as you turn on to Burlington Street), the Holden Beach Pier, public beach access, and the pier restaurant. They are an easy walk... about 284 yards from Something Fun. Just past the pier is a conveniece store, ice cream shop and boutique.

Now that you know where everything is and you have your stuff put away: RELAX! You are on the Island! No crowds, flashing lights or lots of traffic. Grab your preferred beverage, sit out on the rear deck and be amazed at the tides changing 5 +/- feet every 6 -/+ hours. Or maybe you want to enjoy your daily jog on the beach or the sidewalk or both.

We have items for our customers to have SOMETHING FUN to do: bikes, surfboard, kites, fishing poles, games, etc. (It is an honor program; if you break it - fix it; if you want to leave something for other guest thats, fine; Just don't take anything you didn't bring, please.) I fix the bikes before the prime season. Sometimes, someone will brake a bike or get a flat and not fix it. I am sorry, but there is nothing I can do about that other than totally remove these convenience items. So there is no guarantee on their usefulness.

If you are an adventurer, there are many places to visit and do fun things. There are plenty of golf courses in Brunswick County and Myrtle Beach , historical sites, including Old Brunswick, Southport, Wilmington, Fort Fisher (by road or ferry) and even Charleston S.C. (120 miles)!!!.

Our rentals run from Saturday to Saturday, particularly during June, July and August. If you want shorter periods during these months, it must start on or end on a Saturday. Our pricing structure encourages the full week rental during this period. We rent the home, so our rates don't change whether you have 2 or the maximum of 8 adults and 3 children. We DO NOT allow House Parties or rent to people under age 24.

About David Sharpe

We have owned a beach house on Holden Beach since 1994.

David Sharpe purchased this house in 2005

Why David Sharpe chose Holden Beach

Our first was on the Ocean. We wanted to be able to have access to the beach and the Intracostal Waterway. We use our boat to go to the local On-the-water-restaurants on Holden Beach, Ocean Isle, Long Beach, and Southport. We don't have any less access to the beach.

Perfect Location

  • 4 of 5

Perfect location, the dock was perfect for our 24ft boat and easy access to the waterway. It was a short walk to pier/cafe/beach. Great food at the nearby Mermaid Island Grill. The house had plenty of room and all worked fine. The appearance inside was is "lived in" condition, owner said he was planning to paint soon. Communication with the home owner was perfect, he responded quickly with our questions and addressed our issues.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your support. It is nice to hear that our customers had a good time and good experience. We did repaint inside ( some touch up) but still have a little more to do on the outside - which is a never ending battle with the beach environment.

Great location

  • 4 of 5

We spent a week here in August and the house suited our needs well - dog-friendly, a dock with 3+ feet of water at dead low tide and a short walk to the beach. The house was clean and consistent with the descriptions/photos on the website. I would note that the 0.5 bed bunk room is right next to the front door and closed off with a curtain, so if you have little ones that nap during the day that's something to consider - we just used the garage entrance instead to keep the noise down.

As the owner communicated before we arrived (and other reviews note), they are still dealing with some repairs from previous storms (and not just at his house - the neighbor's pier is still half repaired). We lost 220V power one evening for a few hours (stove, dryer, AC) but the owner was in communication with us while the power company got it fixed and it was an issue between the electrical box and the meter (ie. power company problem) not in the house.

All in all it was great for our vacation needs, and based on his responsiveness and genuine concern for guest experience I imagine the owner will get the minor touches finished up soon enough.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the positive comments. We try very hard to make our customers have an at-home-comfortable experience. It is very difficult to keep an older beach house in good shape, particularly after a hurricane, and, when we only have a rare open date to go behind our contractors to ensure the quality of job that we ask them to do (during the rental season). We try to handle issues quickly. In this instance, when the power failed, you took control to call Brunswick Electrical power company which got every thing resolved before I even got your message. I just can't thank you enough. Between September and March we will get all Hurricane Matthew issues resolved and the other annual replacements and touch ups that a rental home needs.

just ok

  • 2 of 5

While the owner is a really nice man and VERY responsive to all communications, the home has some issues. Leaky roof, mold in the grout in the bathrooms, general disrepair for a home built in the 70's. The location is great. To be fair, when allowed to bring your dog on vacation, the house will reflect that. Again, owner is nice and seemed to really care about our stay.

Enjoyed "Something Fun"

  • 4 of 5

Initially not impressed with cleanliness and age of house. However, contacted owner and he was prompt in his response and had house thoroughly cleaned by evening. Plenty of room for our family. Lower level a little on the musty side, however upper level was clean and comfortable. Available satellite TV was not to our liking, but we did not spend lots of time inside. Able to fish from dock, as waterway did not drain at low tide. Caught plenty of smaller fish. Close proximity to beach and plenty of good restaurants. Really liked "Wings and Fish" in nearby Shallotte.

Would stay again and recommend location to anyone with a large family.

Owner's Response: Our original Property Manager died at the very beginning of the rental season this year. This created a lot of fast work to make arrangements for someone to clean the house. We are dealing with never before complaints; we will get that resolved. If I know about guest issues, I will get them resolved.

The house was poorly maintained and very dirty.

  • 1 of 5

The house was filthy. I had to buy cleaning products to clean the stove knobs just so I could touch them. The walls and cabinets were dirty with splatters. The furniture looked like it all came a thrift store. The television was a pain. Only a few channels, and the wifi bandwidth could not handle Netflix. We found cock roaches and spiders throughout the house. We were so disappointed in the house, we cut our trip short, and came home a day early. I would not recommend this property to anyone.

Owner's Response: Quite honestly, This house is in great shape particularly for an old style Beach home. The home is not NEW and I hope our photos conveys that. Our guests get A LOT of room with great location at a great price and a boat dock. We have features that my family preferred over many new homes with 10'x10' bedrooms. I guess there are tradeoffs in everything. Filth is something I can't tolerate. We deal with many families who don't treat this as their home and therefore we must spend a lot to keep it clean. For example the couches have to be cleaned every year and replaces every 3 to 4 years. I believe our new cleaner probably missed a couple of items. But all the guest had to do was call. We have basic TV channels, TWC 20 MB/sec WIFI with a smart dvd player so Netflix should not have a problem.
