About Mallory R
We purchased this home after years of summering on Orr's Island. The home is very special to the family as it was my grandmother's residence and my parents' home for a number of years. My parents now live nearby and we have chosen to share this lovely spot for others to enjoy.
Mallory R purchased this House in 1958
Why Mallory R chose Orr's Island
The location of this property is ideal for day trips in the midcoast area and has all the great charm an island vacation can provide. Cool ocean breezes keep the climate temperate and the salt ocean air is soothing to the soul.
What makes this House unique
On a summer night enjoy the stars easily visible without all the light pollution that you would experience in a city. Catch some fireflies and watch for deer and turkeys parading around in the moonlight.

Spacious historic home-away-from-home
Set on a main road amidst stunning coastal scenes, this home is alive with generations of love and memories, idiosyncrasies, and a blend of old world charm and modern technology. Very spacious, well equipped, warm and cozy...bedroom downstairs enormous...we enjoyed the very comfortable bed, and I loved the bathtub especially! Coffee, tea, sugar, condiments, napkins....many items provided so one doesn't have to run out and buy them for a few days.
Searched in vain for paper and pen...still wondering where I should have looked....and though we were directed to have people call the landline, we had to call Mallory for the phone number.
It was quite cold during the October week we visited, but sun pours through the windows and one day was so pleasant I did manage to walk down to the water....it is an enormous property and must be especially lovely in the springtime.
Glad you enjoyed the home and thank you for the kind words! In regard to the phone use, it is provided as a courtesy to our guests if their cell phone reception is compromised for emergencies etc.. the number was clearly listed in the owner manual along with all other pertinent information regarding the house and property, but I am always available to my guests to get them what they need asap. The paper is a notebook by the phone and there should have been a pen or pencil by the house manual as well, my apologies if you couldn't locate any. I hope you didn't freeze during your stay. The sun does pour through the windows and does a nice job heating the house, but we also have a fully functioning working furnace that I hoped you used during your stay.
A look back
My stay at this inviting older home was all that I hoped it would be. There was a special warmth and character that was felt as soon as we walked in the door. We had the modern necessities needed to be comfortable, but we were so grateful that the home that was probably built in the early 1800's spoke to us with memories of our past. The owners made us feel so welcome and left very helpful notes in each room. I hope to return some day.
Thank you for the kind words about our home and we are glad you enjoyed your stay in Maine. We would gladly welcome you and your family back anytime!
A Beautiful Home!
Orr's House, a quaint, antique island home, was a beautifully decorated and very comfortable house. It was both an historical and lovingly updated home, with plenty of space and shelves full of books. It was clear that the owner and manager are careful stewards of the property. The location is one with which we are familiar, and we visited both Glen's Lobsters on Bailey Island and the Dolphin Marina restaurant for our usual "fix" of seafood. Thank you, Mallory and Joan, for sharing Orr's House with us!
Thank you Jane for the kind words, I'm so glad you had a nice stay and got your seafood fix! The Dolphin is my favorite restaurant as well, fresh seafood and 270* of windows overlooking Harpswell and beautiful Casco Bay. It makes for a fabulous evening out!
We would welcome you back anytime!!

It works fine!
The information and pictures on the VRBO fairly represent this property, which is well equipped and fairy spacious. Communications with Mal were prompt and to the point. While this property is in a scenic rural area involving some driving, we found it met all our expectations.
Beautiful, large and comfortable
We had a great time in this lovely, huge, comfortably furnished, house with its well-supplied kitchen, and games and puzzles. Swimming nearby was fantastic. Would only suggest maybe upgrading the mattresses (they are a bit squishy) andadding some beach chairs or reminding visitors to bring them, along with DVDs or Chromecast or Firestick.
Thank you Carolyn, we take any suggestions to make our guests stay as comfortable as possible! We are glad you enjoyed your summer vacation on Orr's Island! We would welcome you back anytime!
Quiet and spacious with many extras
Quaint home with attentive owners who provided several helpful extras beyond a full kitchen and dishes. There were paper towels, spices, zip bags, foil, a grill, lobster pot and shell crackers, folder of personal suggestions, and many brochures and maps. We had an enjoyable stay.
We are so glad you enjoyed your stay at our home and your visit to Harpswell! We would welcome you back anytime!

Welcome guests to the original Orr house. This lovely cape is one of the oldest houses on the island. Recently updated this house offers three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a den, a large living room, a dining room, a kitchen, laundry facilities and a shed. The house is positioned off route 24 with private parking and is just a few minutes from local beaches/attractions, restaurants and hiking trails. It is ideally located to take advantage of the midcoast area and all it has to offer. Nearby Brunswick provides shopping, groceries, theatre, museums, and bus/train services. It is also the home of Bowdoin College. Freeport and its world class outlet shopping is a 25 minute drive away, and the lovely city of Portland is a 45 minute drive. Two beautiful state park beaches, Popham and Reid State Park, are a quick and easy day trip and should not be missed. Antiquing, light houses and a beautiful botanical garden in Boothbay are also easy day trips from Orr's Island.
