About Rick Brackins
I am a retired businessman that took up kitesurfing at the age that most guys take up shuffleboard. I am always interested in meeting new people. Velero is a condo/hotel which means each unit is individually owned of which I own 6 units which can be rented as 6 two bedroom two bath units or as 12 one bedroom units. Some owners have their units in a rental pool which you can rent by going directly through the hotel.
Rick Brackins purchased this Hotel in 2004
Why Rick Brackins chose Cabarete
Our facility is very quiet and offers a nice green area surrounding our infinity pool. We have a private parking area although a car is really not necessary here.
What makes this Hotel unique
You will be met and escorted by a young dominican lady that is fluent in English to show you around and answer any questions that you may have.

Convenient Gem Located In Heart Of Cabarete
We have nothing but good things to say about our recent stay at the Velero in Cabarete... Our hosts - Rick and Indira - couldn't have been more accommodating. They provided transport to and from the airport in Puerto Plata as part of our 'package'... We got to be friends with them and even shared dinner one evening... While not as fancy as some of the other places we have stayed in Cabarete (the Velero is an older property), our unit - a second story, one bedroom Junior Suite - was clean, well-stocked and very comfortable (okay, the bed was a little hard, but that seems to be the norm in Cabarete regardless of where you stay)....Meanwhile, the grounds were exquisite and the pool is among the best in Cabarete... And, because it was 'off-season' (Dec. 1-8), there were no crowds to speak of with attendance at the pool ranging from just us to never more than 10 people (including us)... Another huge plus was the on-site restaurant - Victor's At Velero (AKA Sunset)... The food here - especially the appetizers and daily drink specials - was outstanding... The prices were totally cheap compared to what you might pay for similar items in the U.S. and best of all, after a couple of days, the staff got to know you by name and treated you like friends/family instead of guests/customers... Off property - Janet's - the main grocery store in Cabarete, was a two minute walk just behind the Velero... As was the adjacent Taxi Stand that would take you anywhere in the area for $5-7 USD... Finally, the center of Cabarete with all of its beachfront restaurants/bars - and the main shopping area - was an easy five-minute walk.. In closing, this was our fourth trip to Cabarete and we look forward to staying with Rick and Indira again at the Velero... If you want something new and fancy, there are other places you can stay in Cabarete, but it you want something clean, functional, convenient to everything and - best of all - very affordable, then the Velero is the place for you...
Excellent Overall Stay/Easy Reservation and Check-in Process
This was my first VRBO stay. Rick and Indira make me want to do it again. The location of the hotel is excellent. Able to walk to the grocery store and along the beach to the beachside restaurants of Caberete. Indira responded instantly to our every request. The hotel restaurant was adequate and the staff made it worth eating there. In the unit we were in, the bedding and linens could use an update, the internet worked about a third of the time and cable service was a 3 out of 10. Didn't spend much time watching TV.
Now that you have purchased a condo in the Dominican Republic you will find that the Internet is a continuing problem. Most of us that spend a lot of time there have installed routers which help greatly. Our cable tv offers hundreds of channels including the premium ones such as HBO, SHO, STARZ, etc. however one neeeds a tutorial on how to operate the two remotes involved to change the channels as well as the languages. The bedding complaint is the first ever received and I will look into that. I'm glad you enjoyed the location, restaurant, and the personal attention from Indira. Best regards, Rick
The condo was exactly as advertised with a full kitchen and a great view of the ocean. We appreciated being picked up and dropped off at the airport by Indira. Janet's grocery store was only a block away and had everything we needed to prepare our meals. The place is clean, the staff is polite and we felt secure. It was nice to walk along the beach and swim in the ocean. Indira was always there to help and made us feel at home. Thanks Rick and Indira for making our stay a good experience, much appreciated. We will likely return and recommend to our family and friends.
Great Boutique Hotel
Rick and Indira are great people to deal with. Their units are very clean and have everything you need to make your stay comfortable.
The resort is maintained very well and in a convenient location. Janet's Supermarket is within close walking distance at the end of the street. The beach restaurants are a short easy walk along the beach with beautiful sunsets as you stroll to dinner. Or Victor's at the resort is a nice place to enjoy dinner oceanside as well.
Thank you Rick and Indira. Until next time!
Fantastic 60th Birthday Celebration!!
My husband and I spent 12 fantastic days at the Velero Beach Resort in June 2016. This little piece of paradise was the perfect spot to be; away from the traffic of downtown, but yet so close to everything you needed or wanted to have a wonderful vacation. Although the choice of restaurants are many and within walking distance, we chose to eat in most of the time. With the grocery store - Janet's - being right next door, it made it easy to buy the things we needed to make breakfast, lunch or dinner. The pool was fantastic and most times we had it to ourselves to enjoy as we pleased. If you love to sit and watch the sunset, you couldn't ask for a better location. We loved everything about our junior suite and plan to return very soon. Thanks again to Rick and Indira for taking good care of us right from the start by picking us up at the airport and having that chilled bottle of champagne ready for us to enjoy upon arrival to start my 60th birthday celebration in style. Cheers!
Great Place / Great People
The location of this resort is absolutely perfect, at the southern point of Cabarete. It is perfectly out of the way of most general foot traffic, but right next to where everything is happening (less than 5 minutes stroll). It has its own little beach area and a great pool and restaurant to boot. Everything you could ever require is right at your finger tips.
I found this place by looking at the reviews on VRBO and everyone is spot on. The owner (Rick and Indira) could not be more pleasant and attentive. They have a great pickup and drop off service and great to sit and have a chat in the evening.
I am not sure you could ask for more than this. I will definitely be back!!!
Cabarete is one of the top ten kitesurfing locations in the world. Save airline fees on kiteboards - I have several for free use.
