Quail Crossing
A wonderful place to stay, cozy, close to the park entrance! Well stocked kitchen and nice patio for grilling and cooking after long days in the park. A nice quiet retreat, great for nature watching at dusk and dawn.

Perfect Yosemite retreat
Steve iand Marty’s clean and comfortable one bedroom cabin is an excellent place to stay for your Yosemite trip. Their advice for where to go in Yosemite was also much appreciated. Spending time on the deck in the morning and in the evening after touring the beauty of the park was one of the highlights of our stay.

Cabin close to Yosemite
The cabin was very nice with a great view. Loved the back porch, hammock, fire pit and outside games. Steve was a wonderful host. Very kind and gracious. Overall a wonderful stay and we will definitely visit again next time we are in the area.

One of our best stays at a vacation rental ever!
The owners were fantastic hosts. They made us feel at home on their property. We spent 3 days at Yosemite National Park (40-60 mins away depending on traffic), and it was nice to be able to come back after a busy day and enjoy a steak on the grill and relax in a quiet rural setting amongest the quail, wild turkeys and deer. At night the sky was bright with moon and stars. Our stay allowed us to unplug from the busyness of life. When we find ourselves in this part of the country we have found a place that feels like home!

clean, quite, perfect!!!!
Steve & Marty were fantastic hosts and the place is spotless. So lovely in every way. Unbelievable amount of widelife. Saw 6 deer in 3 days and over 40 turkeys. One night there were 27 about 40 yards away. My last night there, they all came back and one jumped on the picnic table. They must love it there as much as Steve and Marty's guests. Thank you again and I will be back for sure!!!

Quail Creek
What a great getaway we had. I took my family of 5 to the cabin and we all loved it. The peaceful location, wildlife, and the whistling trees made for a wonderful weekend. We played games, went for walks, BBQ, and enjoyed hanging out by the fire pit. Great time to catch up with each of us. On top of all of that, not far the the national park entrance to Yosemite. We have marked this as a "must stay" the next time we head back to Yosemite.

Tranquil Escape
Thank you Steve and Marty for hosting us at your Quail Crossing cabin. We couldn’t imagine a better way to relax and explore Yosemite. The cabin and property were perfectly appointed with everything we needed to enjoy our holiday. We loved your bocce court, fire pit, picnic areas, nearby hikes, loaded kitchen, extra cozy blankets and pillows: we wanted for nothing more! You have done a tremendous job with the architecture, decorating, and coziness: we feel truly grateful for both your kindness and willingness to share your cabin! We left feeling refreshed and relaxed - and would love to return in the near future. A gem of a place! Happy Thanksgiving! -J&A K

Serene Woodland Paradise
Marty and Steve , were the perfect hosts. Their cabin is a woodland paradise. The cabin is warm and inviting, and has lots of windows that let in plenty of light. Simply put the cabin was exactly what we were looking for during our woodsy vacation. As a bonus Steve was kind enough to setup an outdoor fire for us! I would highly recommend staying here if you get the chance, you won't regret it! P.S. Enjoying wine in front of the fireplace can't be beat .

This cabin and the hosts are more spectacular than we could have ever imagined.
With welcome cookies and a bottle of wine, Steve and Marty greeted us. The cabin is clean, comfortable, fully outfitted with everything you need and more. We enjoyed the outdoor shower, cooking dinner, relaxing after long days hiking in Yosemite and playing some bocce. This cabin is a special place.

An idyllic stay
Steve and Marty's Cabin at Quail Crossing is an idyllic property. In addition to a gorgeous main cabin, with a large living, dining, kitchen area and bathroom, is a separate bunk house, with its own outdoor shower, that is ideal for housing teenagers anxious to escape mom and dad after a day at Yosemite. Close enough to be in Yosemite in 30 minutes but far enough away to escape the summertime crowds, the feeling is one of getting away to your own place in the corner of the woods (or at least a place that many of us dream of having). The entire experience could not have be more perfect. Steve and Marty were excellent hosts and we regretted not having enough time to get to know both of them better. Their attention to detail in the accommodations was evident everywhere and told us that their guests’ comfort and enjoyment is their prime concern. We cannot overstate our happiness at having found this gem tucked away in the California woods. Thank you both for a wonderful, too-short, three days at Quail Crossing. Beautiful Home with a Unique Feature
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this home during our vacation at the end of June. Steve and Marty are wonderful hosts, truly concerned about your comfort and enjoyment as their guests. Our family of six (all grown adult children) came to this location to visit Yosemite, making day trips into the park. Everyone was able to sleep comfortably, with two of the children sleeping in the bunk house. The home is well stocked with items needed for food preparation and the local grocery store, Greeley Hill Market, is only 2 miles away to purchase your fresh and frozen food supplies. In the mornings we enjoyed coffee on the back deck, which is frequently visited by hummingbirds. We made use of the grill in the evenings for dinner and enjoyed games of bocce ball on their lighted court, under a star filled sky. One unique feature of the property that everyone had to try was the outdoor shower. Be sure to take advantage of this opportunity, it is truly an experience that is not to be missed. Thanks Steve and Marty for a most memorable vacation stay.

A PERFECT PLACE IN A PERFECT PARADISE ... HEAVENLY HOSTS ... STORYBOOK CABIN ... AMAZING AMENITIES!
Once in a while you get lucky ... you find what seems to be the PERFECT PLACE for a getaway ... and it turns out to be JUST THAT!!! The Hosts, Steve & Marty (and gentle Wags, the dog) couldn't have been more caring and gracious ... the storybook cabin and bunk house, inside and out, as well as the surrounding woods, MORE than lived up to the photos ... and all amenities were present as promised -- with several extra ones to surprise us! We spent three glorious days at this beautiful mountain paradise, which Steve and Marty have lovingly created ... every detail met with mindfulness of maximum comfort and enjoyment for their guests. We especially loved the spacious porch looking out over the meadow and the woods, as well as the outdoor fire pit area, complete with picnic table. Steve set up the fire for us each night, and we enjoyed roasting Hot Dogs and S'Mores like never before! And ... whatever you do ... don't miss out on the GLORIOUS shower in the warmth of the morning sun outside the Bunk House ... with the lovely bonus of a family of deer crossing by each morning like clockwork (I wonder how Steve and Marty trained them to do that??!!). Also, thanks to our Hosts' recommendation, we had the Brunch of our lifetime at the old Ahwahnee Hotel (now the Majestic) -- the perfect ending to a perfect visit to this mountain paradise near Yosemite!! We wish to express our sincere gratitude to Steve and Marty for their labor of love in creating such a lovely environment ... and, most of all, for the obvious heartfelt efforts they take to provide a perfect and peaceful place for travelers that are lucky enough to discover this magical place!!! Until Next Time ... The McCoy and Martino Families Morro Bay, CA and Sao Paulo, Brazil

Cute and comfortable little cabin!
We had a great stay! The cabin is clean, bright, pleasant, quiet, cozy and smelled good. The kitchen is well-stocked and the fireplace added nice ambiance. There are plenty of blankets and the bed in the bedroom is comfortable (we didn't try the sofa bed). The outdoor shower looked like it would be fun in warmer weather. The indoor shower and tub were relaxing; our little kids really enjoyed the tub. The hosts were very nice, thoughtful, and helpful. Welcome cookies were a nice touch. Widespread tree mortality from drought and bark beetle has affected this part of the Sierra Nevada mountains, including Yosemite, and the owners have had to start removing some trees from the property. The cabin is about 35 minutes from the Big Oak Flat park entrance. It's relatively easy to find your way to the cabin and then to and from the park. The cabin is a comfortable and happy place for a family to launch daily excursions to Yosemite.

Exceeded expectations!
Quail Crossing was so clean and comfortable for our family of four. The bunkhouse & outdoor shower were amazing. When we arrived temps were high 90's and to our surprise the house had AC. This property had everything that was advertised and was meticulously kept. Steve & Marty were very caring hosts and Marty's cookies were delicious. Close enough to Yosemite (45 min), yet far enough from the crowds. My only regret was that I didn't have a day to just relax and enjoy the property.

Our family of six from Dallas
I highly recommend Quail Crossing for those who are planning on visiting Yosemite area. I couldn't think of a better place to stay while visiting the national park. The beauty and tranquility of your surrounding and the hospitality of both Steve and Marty cannot be said enough in words. You just have to experience it for yourself. I think you would be missing out on an incredible opportunity to experience private country living if you choose to stay elsewhere. We will definitely tell all our friends and be sure to come back and stay longer. Thanks Steve and Marty for making us feel at home. You both are wonderful people. You have made our experience one to remember. Hope to see you soon in the near future.

Yosemite graduation trip
Owners were nice. Place was nice and well kept. The owners well stocked general supplies which was helpful. Place was a little far to get to from Yosemite but worth the extra 20 min drive. Bunk house would not be for everyone, but cute idea. Make sure quests want to stay out in a remote room, seemed a little different.

We loved it!
It was one of the best places we've stayed during our 3-weeks trip to the US. The cabin and the surroundings look much better than on the photos. And the hosting family is very inviting. We loved every single minute spend at Quail Crossing: Bocce game, home atmosphere, wild nature, camp fire, bacon and marshmallows on fire, barbecue in the evening, garden shower, home made cookies and and and.... This place is definitely recommended to everyone and we would love to come back again!

Highly Recommend! The pictures do not do it justice!
The cabin and bunk house were modern, very clean and beautifully decorated. Very welcoming. Our teenagers loved the bunk house and the electric blankets! A bottle of wine and fresh baked cookies were waiting for us. Flannel bathrobes were provided too! We thoroughly enjoyed the gas fireplace. The owners were just up the hill and provided great advice on shopping, dining and sight-seeing. Our stay was a real treat! 30-45 minutes from the Groveland entrance to Yosemite.

Escape!
Reminded us of a Northern MN cabin tucked in the woods. The cabin was quiet, clean, and away from any traffic. Our family used the cabin as base for our adventures into Yosemite. Cooked evening meals on the grill, beat our boys in Bocce while drinking wine and eating appetizers. Ate breakfast in the morning and headed back to the park for more adventure. The only regret is that we didn't stay longer.

Loved this place
Arrived with friends of mine that had twins, 17 months old! We quickly settled into the cabin, I stayed in the bunk house. I highly recommend the bunk house, it was 2 twin beds, a toilette and an outdoor shower, which I absolutely loved. Having a view of the hillside while showering was great! The cabin was well appointed with everything we needed in the kitchen, even bathrobes for each! The children were safe and loved the place too. It was quite easy to get anything out of their reach. Steve and Marty were wonderful hosts, and we also enjoyed a little of Lilly and Wags, their labs. We spent most of our time in Yosemite, and I would have liked to relax by the fire pit (no fires allowed due to the high drought) but it didn't stop us from having our s'mores! Stove top s'mores are just as good in a crunch. The drive to Yosemite was about 40-45 minutes, then depending where you wanted to go it could be another 20 - 1 hr+. Tuolumne Meadows is a must! I got up each morning to hike around and picture take, there are plenty of subjects to find, from the llama farm down the road, to warblers on the fencepost, to the two horses across the road and a quail thrown in for good measure. It is called Quail Crossing for a reason. We would love to return for a visit and look forward to that! Thank you so much for your hospitality Marty and Steve. Such a beautiful place nestled in the trees!

AMAZING YOSEMITE CABIN
Steve and Marty were perfect hosts and very easy to work with from check-in to check-out. They were quick to respond to all of our questions and provided great recommendations on places to go and things to see. The cabin is a little drive from Yosemite, but we looked forward to returning to Quail Crossing each night after a long day in the park. There's little cell reception anywhere around, so the wifi came in handy to stay connected and help plan activities. There were also plenty of guide books and maps available in the cabin to reference. The kitchen was fully stocked with all of the pots, pans, dishes, and silverware necessary for our cooking needs. We were even happily surprised to find a bottle of wine and delicious, homemade cookies waiting for us upon arrival. We grilled out every night, played a twilight game of bocce ball, and enjoyed a lovely evening looking up at the stars by the fire pit, which Steve already had set up ready to go. We ended up bringing plenty of food with us, but there's a small grocery store nearby. There's also a cheap gas station, which is great for filling up before driving around Yosemite all day. The cabin is beautiful, clean, well maintained, and it was the perfect home away from home getaway for a romantic vacation. I would recommend it to all of our friends and would happily return on a future visit to Yosemite.

Loved it!!
We absolutely loved our stay at Quail Crossing cabin! Steven and Marty were so very accommodating. Especially with our circumstances changing with the adoption of our son right before our trip. We were welcomed with a lovely, clean cabin & homemade cookies! What a difference personal touches make! The weather was uncommonly hot for the season, but Steven brought many fans down to make us more comfortable. The surrounding area was just beautiful. We took drives around sunset and saw much wildlife. We had more than we needed at the cabin, and the outdoor shower was great! Steven and Marty also gave us valuable information on Yosemite park, which we were so happy to learn. We would LOVE to return for future visits!

Love This Cozy Cabin!
Thank you Marty and Steve for a wonderful time in Yosemite! No pictures could do your place justice! It was absolutely beautiful and peaceful. My only regret is that we were not there longer:) Every detail is managed perfectly from the kids and adult robes, bocce ball and corn hole, to homemade cookies and wine. We will never forget our time here. If you are looking for Southern hospitality in the West, this is the place!! Hope to be back again one day.

About the host

Hosted by Steve and Marty Bacus

Host profile image
Marty and I are San Francisco Bay Area fugitives - living in Half Moon Bay for nearly 30 years. Marty owned and operated a very successful prepatory school and I worked as a manager with AT&T. We have been married for 44 years and love meeting new people. We are fly fishing enthusiasts and I am a guide school graduate (let me know if you want to go fishing!). I earned an MBA from University of Illinois and Marty holds a BA in education with addiitional Post Grad work. We love to cook, entertain, maintain a modest wine closet and host a annual Oktoberfest party.
We live on site (our property is 7.5 acres) in our home (completed 2011) and are available to ensure our guests are comfortable and have everything needed to make their stay perfect!

Why they chose this property

We love the location of our property in the peaceful, scenic Wagner Valley. We have lots of tall pines and oak trees. Mariposa county boasts 356 days of sunshine annually.
Local waterfalls, hiking trails and abundant wildlife (wild turkeys, bobcats, bears, coyotes and deer) make for our eco-system interesting.

What makes this property unique

We want to make your stay a highlight! Yosemite is a magical place and all who go there fall in love with the majesty of the Valley - El Capiton, Half Dome, Bridal Veil Falls and Yosemite Falls - each one a marvel.

Our property is located in the Wagner Valley, a two mile long valley home of a Llama ranch and open space. Our property in on the southern slope of the valley and forested with mature pines and oak trees.

Bright stars fill the night sky and we often hear the lonely call of coyotes or local owls high in the trees.
