About this property
NEW! Volcano Tea House Cottage 2-HotTub-FirePlace
NEW LISTING 6/2025!
Welcome to The Volcano Tea House Cottage 2, located just 6 minutes from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The original Tea House was established in 2014, and it inspired us to build and design another Tea House in the same neighborhood. The home has been completely remodeled in 2025. Enjoy 5-star luxury with our luxurious bathroom, modern gas fireplace, and outdoor relaxation area with pergola covering, a “Furo” hot tub, and fire table & lounge chairs, surrounded by forest.
The Teahouse Cottage 2 was created with an appreciation for the elegance of Japanese architecture. The interior and exterior of the entire home was completely renovated in 2025.
Designed with luxury and privacy in mind, the Teahouse Cottage 2 features a cozy queen bed, fully equipped kitchen, gas fireplace, and modern bathroom with stone vessel sink and luxury stone decor shower.
An outdoor furo hot tub, with seating for two, rejuvenates you at the end of your day after touring. A Japanese furo (風呂), also known as an ofuro, is a traditional Japanese bathtub designed for soaking and relaxation rather than washing. Unlike Western bathtubs, a furo is deeper and made of cypress wood which retains heat well.
Enjoy our provided robe and slippers, spa bath towels, shampoo and conditioner amenities, and rejuvenating bath salts.
Unwind with a glass of wine in front of the outdoor fire table. Gaze at the stars from the outdoor hot tub, surrounded by rainforest. Relax with fresh-brewed Hawaiian Ground Coffee, NAOKI Matcha Green Tea, and Big Island Candies shortbread cookies, all of which are provided to our guests.
Every detail has been considered to make this a unique and deliberate space that will be an exhilarating and rejuvenating experience you will never forget!
GUEST ACCESS
You’ll have exclusive access to the entire home, including laundry facilities, a spacious front patio for relaxing, and the full backyard featuring a Japanese “furo” hot tub (seats 2), and outdoor fire table with two comfy chairs and a table perfect for dining or enjoying a glass of wine or beverage, all under a covered pergola with outdoor lighting around the perimeter, creating a romantic ambiance.
We are located directly off a paved street, with a short gravel driveway. Solar Landscaping lights create a nice ambience in the evening, and will guide you to your private parking next to the front entry of the home.
There is another home in the front of the property, separated by a Japanese bamboo fence for privacy.
INTERACTION WITH GUESTS:
For questions or assistance, please message us through your booking platform. For emergencies, you can call or text us. Our phone numbers are listed in the electronic guidebook which will be messaged to you a few days before check-in.
OTHER DETAILS TO NOTE:
We are often asked about air conditioning. If you have been to other areas of Hawai`i, you will know that some areas are very warm. Volcano has quite a different climate and it is cool here with the crisp air of mountain elevation. Anticipate rain, sun on most afternoons and cooler evening temperatures. It is very uncommon for properties in the area to have air conditioning. With ample doors and windows the air circulates beautifully.
Volcano Village is one of the last areas of native rainforest in all of Hawai`i. It is an incredibly special place that we invite you to enjoy and appreciate. Being remotely located, please be prepared that there may be times of slow traffic on our two lane highway. Sometimes limbs fall on our power lines interrupting power service. We keep flashlights, extra batteries, and candles at the unit for these instances. It is not uncommon for local restaurants to be closed, so it is a good practice to check before venturing out. There are two convenience stores and gas stations located in Volcano Village. They both close early, usually at 7pm.
Please be aware that Coqui frogs are Volcano residents. They make a chirping sound that is a bit like loud crickets. For light sleepers this may be a bit disruptive; there is a white noise machine in the nightstand, if needed. Volcano Village is a small, forest town on a volcano on an outlying island in the middle of the Pacific ocean. Expect the unexpected and you will have a wonderful adventure in a magical place.
For drinking water, we have triple filtration and UV sanitation for our eco-friendly rainwater catchment system. Our tap water is safe to drink.
Being near the Volcano we are often asked about the activity and any safety concerns. The residential area near the park is considered a low risk lava zone. In the past 100,000 years there has not been a flow recorded in the area of Volcano Village. The active eruption area from the 2018 eruption was in the East Rift Zone, about a 1 hour drive from Volcano Village, near the coast in the Pahoa area. The Mauna Loa eruption of 2022 has concluded with no risk to any inhabited areas. Kilauea erupted in December 2024 and January 2025, and the lava remained within Kilauea caldera.
Hawai’i County has recently adopted local ordinances to help keep our neighborhoods pleasant for everyone. Please help us continue to be good neighbors by following the local statutes listed below.
A) Quiet Hours - Quiet Hours shall be observed from 9pm to 8am, during which time the noise from the cottage shall not disturb the adjacent neighbors.
B) Sound - Sound that is audible beyond the property boundaries during non-quiet hours shall not be more excessive than would be otherwise occur in a residential area.
C) Parking - Guest vehicles shall be parked in the designated parking area. No parking on the street at any time.
D) Usage - The vacation rental shall not be used for commercial purposes.

Why they chose this property
We chose Volcano because our friends brought us here on a "staycation" to check out the area, and we absolutely fell in love with the area. Volcano is different from other parts of Hawaii, which makes it special. Here, we are surrounded by lush forest and native plants and flowers, and we appreciate cooler temperatures. We enjoy visits to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and its hiking trails, Volcano Winery, Akatsuka Orchid Gardens, the local farmers market, a variety of local restaurants, and an easy drive to Hilo town.
What makes this property unique
Japanese culture has had a lasting influence on the culture of Hawaii. Japanese immigration to Hawaii began in the late 1800s. Japanese business people and workers came to Hawaii in search of opportunity and eventually settled here. The Japanese influence can be seen throughout Hawaii in art, architecture, and our local foods. The Tea House Cottage 2 was completed renovated in 2025, and decorated to celebrate the close bond between Hawaii and Japan. In Volcano, our local stores and school were founded by immigrants from Japan and are a treasured part of our community. We hope that you will enjoy the clean aesthetics and natural influences of the Tea House Cottage 2. We love this property, and we hope you will too.
