Summer Vacation! Great Location!

Bedrooms 3
Half Baths1
Space 2,000 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

3 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom home in the heart of Portland

Three bedrooms, two full baths, fully equipped kitchen, backyard patio in walking distance from everything. Kid friendly!

When our family goes on our own adventures, we scrub down our house, store our most prized possessions and rent out our living space.  A property manager takes care of the house and helps to make sure guests are comfortable.  Her phone number will be left for guests in the house.

House set up
The front door of the house has an electronic lock on it for easy entry.  We ask that guests please keep the front door locked at all times.

Our house has two other rental units in it.  Renters of our living space share a front door, entry hall and a powder room with the other guests in our house.

There is one bedroom on the 2nd floor for your use with a queen size bed.   The other two bedrooms are on the third floor: both with queen size beds.  All bedrooms have air conditioners during summer months.

Clean sheets will be put on all of the beds and clean towels will be left for you. If you need extra linens, please let us know or ask our property manager.

There is also wireless access in the house if you brought your own laptop.

You are welcome to use anything you see in the kitchen and pantry.  Please don’t feel shy!  There is no reason for you to invest in things like olive oil and spices when the kitchen is filled with these items!

We have a few “rules” about the care of pots and knives, but you are welcome to use anything you find in the kitchen

2nd floor: Full bath at the end of the hall. An ADA approved hand rail is mounted on the wall along the long side of the tub.  As the tub can be slippery and the tub is quite deep, we recommend holding on as you get out!

Washer & Dryer: A High Efficiency front loading washer and a dryer are available for renter use in the 2nd floor bathroom. Detergent is provided.

3rd floor: Another full bath off of master bedroom.

A flat screen tv, dvd player, Wii, Apple TV are all available for guest use in our TV room.

A dining table big enough for 6 people is available in the dining room. A larger breakfast nook off the kitchen is also available and can seat 9 if you squeeze in.

Our deck has a space with patio furniture under a screened gazebo and a nice size outdoor dining table. A small play house and waterproof toys are ready for kids and their imaginations to enjoy. A new gas grill is also at your disposal.

Bikes:  You are welcome to put your bikes in the back yard and on the deck. If you did not bring a bike, you can easily rent one around the corner at Gorham Bike and Ski.

Driveway: Guests renting this space has access to two parking spaces in our driveway. Other guests and cleaning crew might park for a few minutes in the driveway but will be informed that they will need to move their car upon request.

Street Parking: If that does not work for you, you can park on the street from 5pm until 10 am on weekdays if you can find a spot. There are no restrictions on weekends. You can also park any time on Mellen street. Please make sure you “park smart,” minding the gap between you and the next car or curb so that there will be plenty of parking for everyone!

Parking Garages: There are several city run parking structures as well as privately run garages. The closest garage is at the end of Deering Street, on High Street adjacent the Westin.

Why Barbara Mascarenas chose Portland

We came to Portland on vacation from Washington, DC and never left. We immediately fell in love with the neighborhood and rented until we found the right house to buy to be in this location. We are close to everything downtown offers, but our street is tree-lined and neighborly.

The house was a unique way to enjoy Portland. It was within walking distance of just about everything and the street was adorable. It had all the charm of a historic home with all the modern amenities. Our family instantly felt comfortable! The owners left clear instructions for using washer and dryer, the kitchen, and the locks on the doors. She was also clear about what we could use, which I really appreciated. They have an amazing collections of games and a wonderful breakfast nook to play them in! I would recommend staying here and hope that we have the opportunity to do so again in the future.

Great Portland townhouse

  • 4 of 5

This property has a well equipped kitchen, large dining room, living room with flat screen TV, and private back patio. It had plenty of space for our group of 3 couples. Downtown Portland, restaurants, and activities are within walking distance, yet the neighborhood is quaint and residential. This was a great base for our vacation and felt like home when we returned each evening.

Food for thought

  • 3 of 5

Place is nice. There is 3 floors. 1st floor is lr, dr, kitchen. 2nd floor is a bedroom and a full bath. 3rd floor has 2 bedrooms 1 full bath.

No crib available; only mattress

Lots of stairs. Stairs are at an incline so it could be a challenge.

Grill - only 1/2 working

The place is not for someone that stays up past 8pm and wants to have a nice time during vacation- neighbors get annoyed at any type of noise- inside and outside.

Parking is a challenge unless you are the only guest.

One of the bathrooms is out in hallway

Bathtub a challenge for someone that has problems getting in/out of tubs with no handrails

Within walking distance to anything around town.

Comfortable and homey place

Kitchen is well equipped.

Nice little patio

Owner's Response: What a shame that the renter did not ask for a crib in their correspondence prior to arriving. Had they let us know they needed one, we could have easily set up a “real "crib or a pack and play. Our property manager would have been more than happy to accommodate had they let her know. It is very true that, as described, our house is on 3 stories. Please be aware that the stairs do go up (and down, too!). I am sorry that the grill was not working fully when this guest came. We have replaced the grill. It was working when we left and since no other guests mentioned that it did not work before they got there, unfortunately, we did not replace it until we also found out that it was not working correctly. We DID hear from our neighbors about one instance in the nine weeks we were gone when they had to ask our renters to keep down the noise. I was not aware of which party it was until I received this review. For future guests, we must request that you not bring large and loud speakers to set up in our back yard to play music loudly. This is our home and people living nearby are our neighbors with families and work in the morning. You are welcome to have a nice time during your vacation in our home, but we ask that you take into consideration that this is a residential area and not everyone in the vicinity is on vacation. Parking in our driveway is as it is described in our listing. There is off street parking on a first come first served basis. There is on street parking with restrictions during the week. There is street parking half a block away that has very few restrictions. There is also a parking garage 1.5 blocks away where there would be absolutely no challenge in finding a parking place. The powder room in our house is in the front hall as it is in many homes. There is and always has been an ADA approved handle in the 2nd floor bathroom which is mentioned in the description of the house as well as in the information left for all renters. It is a claw foot tub typical of the era in which our house was built. There is also another full bath on the third floor which has a standing shower which is easy to enter as well as a separate jacuzzi tub.
