Why Claire chose Southbridge

This charming home was designed by Royal Barry Wills, a well-known American architect and a master of traditional Cape Cod style homes, particularly between the 1930‘s – 1950’s. He lived in the same era as Frank Lloyd Wright, another famous American architect who was a master of modern design who designed over 1000 buildings, including the famous Guggenheim Museum in New York.

What makes this house unique

This is a magnificent large Hansel and Gretel like cozy home with beautiful grounds of fields, pond, swimming pool and horse paddock area and yet just 45-80 minutes from the major cities of New England . A truly unique estate.

Perfect property for wonderful wedding weekend

  • 5 of 5

When my now-husband and I decided to get married at my parents house in NE CT, we hoped to find somewhere special - and close-by - to host us and our wedding party. We couldn't have asked for a better spot. It was 7 min from my parents' home, 7 minutes from the Southbridge Hotel and Conference Center (where the rest of our guests would stay). We were able to host a welcome reception (casual rehearsal dinner) on Friday evening for an extra fee, and our friends/family all complimented the house/property. The staff was helpful but also hands off. There were a few maintenance issues (sediment in water, broken oven and burners, a wobbly bed, and some in-progress yard projects that were a bit unsightly) but given the general cleanliness and overall upkeep of this large property, we couldn't consider these big problems. Overall, we had a wonderful few days at the house and would definitely recommend it for others!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your review! We love to hear how guests enjoyed their stay. We are so glad that you and your family had a wonderful stay and found the home and property perfect for your event. And congratulations on your wedding! We are so sorry about the issues of the water, stove and landscaping. The drought had unfortunately caused some sediment in the water in our well but it has since been rectified and the water is crystal clear! The stove has been fixed as well and we have completed our landscaping project and the grounds look absolutely beautiful. Again, thank you for your stay. We do hope you will return someday!

Just left our short 4 night stay at this gorgeous house and we had a wonderful time. To start with, the house itself is very charming! Each room is an adventure with lots of details and beautiful decor. We got a little lost in the beginning! There are so many rooms with nooks and crannies....we giggled as we tried to navigate through them all. The grounds are absolutely breathtaking as well! From the beautiful landscaping with fire pits and a spectacular pool, complete with pool house! We didn't want to leave the property!

My favorite times were early morning, having my coffee outside while the hummingbirds visited each flower and the butterflies fluttered around.

The owner and staff were extremely kind and very helpful with any questions we had, and recommendations on what to do and where to eat!

Thanks so much for a restful, fulfilled vacation with very special memories for us all.

Owner's Response: Dear Stephanie, You and your family are the perfect guests. Please come again anytime. Thank you for your visit and we are very happy that you had a great time. We wanted you to have a wonderful experience. Yes indeed your description of the property is how we see it as well. Our goal was to make the home beautiful and the grounds with the large pond to be breathtaking planting many trees and flowers for the pollinators. We are also committed to not use pesticides and chemicals and have installed solar power for the property. The property is surrounded by conservation forest with 1700 stone walls which is open for your exploration.

Outstanding. Special.

Owner was great to work with. House was beautiful, charming, interesting, and huge.

As advertised, it has everything a group needs to enjoy a stay of any length, and because there is so much to enjoy on the property and in the home, you won't want to leave.

We had a family reunion here, and it was perfect.

A Fantastic Place for a Wedding or Large Event!

  • 5 of 5

I just wanted to take the time to THANK YOU for allowing us to use your absolutely beautiful property for our wedding. We can’t thank you enough for helping to make our important day a very special one! We will never forget it! We are so glad that we found your estate and it was exactly as it was described – and more! We are still receiving the most wonderful comments from our guests! From the moment we had our first conversation with the manager, we knew this would be the right place for us. She was so helpful, and detail oriented, and answered any and all questions that we had. We appreciated that she spent so much time with us going over every detail and helped everything go so smoothly. And we can’t say enough about the property! We have never come across such a stunning property. The grounds were immaculate and well maintained. The flowers and trees were georgous! We loved having an outdoor wedding and were able to take amazing photos by the pond, pool, and in front of the many beautiful flowers. My family stayed overnight (there were 15 of us) and we found the house to be well maintained as well. Each room was beautifully decorated and it truly felt like home. We wanted a laid back, country feel and this is exactly what it was. The bedrooms were nice as well and the beds were very comfortable. My mother in law is a gourmet cook and LOVED the kitchen! We had some wonderful meals there. THANK YOU again for everything. Thank you to your staff as well. They were available to help with answering all our questions. We will definitely be returning. And I am sure some of our guests who attended the wedding will too!

Great girls weekend away!

  • 5 of 5

We rented the entire house for one night - about 12 of us - and loved it. The house was simply fabulous and we really loved it all! The kitchen was definitely a focal point for us to gather around. The house was spotless and clean and well maintained. There are many rules to follow but all in order to take great care of the loved house. Thanks!
