We grew up in southern California which is where we met, married and began to raise our five children. We moved to Idaho in 1992. We own and operate a dairy farm here.
Jeanie Vanderham purchased this house in 2008
We have always enjoyed water sports with our children and had always dreamed of having a vacation home. This property fit that dream. We all live about 15 miles from the property so it is easy for our family to come and go. We always feel we are on vacation!
The view here is amazing with the canyon walls, waterfalls, and river flowing. There is enough activity on the water from boaters to keep things interesting but never disturbing.
This house is amazing. The set up is perfect for a large group. Plenty of parking. Every amenity you could ask for. Even an ice maker! The kitchen is amazing, the beds are comfy, decks on every level. My family just cannot brag enough. The deck and boat slip, the view, the waterfalls. All breathtaking. We plan to make this a yearly get away. Super nice owners and easy to work with on every level. Clean, cool, amazing time!
7 of us came down for a quilt retreat weekend. We used the dining room table and 3 of our own tables in the dining room and with the big sliding glass doors to the river it was wonderful. We loved the natural light and the view! We didn't use the downstairs apartment because it didn't appear to lock but we were all happy and able to fit upstairs. (One of us slept on couch cushions made into a bed upstairs.)
Overall, we had a wonderful time and would do it again!
I just spent 3 nights in this comfortable home with my group of 6. The beds were very comfortable - so important! Lots of towels and pillows. The kitchen was well equipped and also had a BBQ for cook outs. We ate most meals at the outdoor patio table and enjoyed the views and the birding. Home is well equipped with sun umbrellas, many different sitting spots, kayaks and canoes. Box Canyon and Thousands Springs are nearby and provided great hiking trips. Can't go wrong with this property.
The house is situated on the Snake River with excellent views of the river and wonderful morning and evening light. It is well furnished with tasteful furniture, comfortable beds, and the kitchen has the essentials. However, our first step into the house revealed an obviously uncleaned kitchen counter, littered with food residue. The floor was sticky, and most rooms had cobwebs, debris, and dead flies scattered about. Once we did some cleaning, we could enjoy the house, but aren't happy about paying a hefty cleaning fee.
The other disturbing thing about our visit was the frequent nuisance of the noxious odor from area feedlots and dairies. These large scale concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs) are ruining an area that has much to recommend it - lovely state parks, a national monument, thousands of springs (now almost entirely robbed of their natural flows), steep canyon walls, and the meandering Snake River. I worry because the water quality in the area has rising nitrogen levels from both the animal waste and fertilizers, as well as pesticides, pathogens, and pharmaceuticals (think of all the antibiotics given to cattle and then excreted onto the ground then seeping into the groundwater) according to DEQ reports. The headache produced by the odor is enough to insure that I will not return.
We had a family reunion here the week after the 4th. It was a bit hot and air conditioning didn't work well but we figured out what was wrong and were just fine. Wonderful location on the river. We had an incredible time and the owners were so nice and easy to work with. WE will be back next summer
Located in the beautiful Hagerman Valley on the winding Upper Snake River. Awaken to the peace and quiet while watching the colorful sunrise reflecting on the river. Four kayaks and a canoe are ready for your enjoyment as you explore the beauty of the river. Paddle across the way to discover amazing sights and Thousands Springs Park. Bring your personal ski or fishing boats for additional fun and dock them on the property.
