We have lived in Mariposa since 1981. I have two beautiful children. I love to travel and see all the beauty that God has made and he made this beautiful town of Mariposa just a stepping stone to one of the most beautiful places in the world.
Irene Larsen purchased this apartment in 2012
We chose this property because it is close to the main town. You can walk to the restaurants, shopping, stores.
This property is close to everything and still in the country. You can sit outside and watch the deer eating and the turkeys just outside your door.

I told my wife as we were leaving the apt. for the last time on Sunday just how much I enjoyed staying there. It is incredible comfortable and convenient to work and Mariposa.
Very comfortable stay on edge of town, and easy access to Yosemite. Everything provided even a lot of extras that you wouldn't normally get in a home stay. Highly recommended
Excellent communication. This owner is amazing and has thought of everything. The rental was roomy and was just perfect. It was spotlessly clean and extremely comfortable. The bed was very comfy and loved the gray sheets that were on the bed.
It's located about an hour from the entrance of Yosemite. Don't let that deter you--it's a very spread out area and you'll have lots of driving no matter where you stay. We were very happy with the location. Close to Mariposa- Museum, restaurants and a great grocery store. The rental is very well stocked with things you may need--soap, shampoo, spices...Irene even provided K-cups to use in the Keurig.
Would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend to anyone.
Logement agréable, propre et au calme. Bien que situé à une grosse heure de route de Yosemite Valley, ce point de chute est parfait pour visiter le parc.
The Bear Retreat features everything a family of up to four needs for a great home base for a visit to Yosemite. The owner has attended to all the details - utensils, extra linens, even a small library of books and maps about Yosemite. The property is very clean, air conditioned (a must in the summer!) with all needed appliances and an on-site laundry. A large supermarket, gas station (another must in this area!) and pharmacy, as well as several restaurants, are within a five-minute drive.
The owner is extremely responsive to questions, and, in fact, called us during the major fires that swept this area three weeks before our trip to update us on the situation. This really put our minds at ease.
The property is located about 45 minutes from the Yosemite entrance, and about an hour from the Yosemite Valley, if you leave early. If you leave later (arriving at the park after 10am in the summer) it doesn't matter where you stay; three-hour traffic jams getting into the park are common in the summer. There are closer hotels but those places don't have access to the gas, groceries, etc. that you get at the Bear Retreat. And the drive is beautiful, along the Merced River in the heart of Gold Rush country.
If you are traveling to Yosemite, the Bear Retreat is an affordable option for a family, in a great location, with an owner who goes out of her way to make your comfort a priority.
We had a wonderful stay at this little retreat. It was perfect for our family for a couple of nights. The kitchen was stocked enough to prepare basic meals. The coffee in the morning was a nice plus. We meet the owner Irene and she was very pleasant, friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again.
This place is spacious and the owner has thought of everything! Easy communication and very clean.
Try the Ziplines, 45 miles away from Yosemite, Bass Lake, Wine tasting, Wineries, dirt bike riding (bring your own). You can go see Bodie, Mammoth. Also gold panning.
