We are from Hackettstown, NJ and have had our beach house for 5 yrs. We feel very lucky to be able to enjoy all that nature has to offer on the canal and are pleased to share it with our guests. Bring your own water toys or enjoy ours. Fish/Crab/ Kayak from the dock. The wild horses are truly amazing. Enjoy nature at its best!

We enjoyed our stay this home. The house was large enough for our group of 12. We enjoyed crabbing off the dock and we had a big crab feast on the screen porch. Looking forward to our return in 2013.

Relaxing , Tranquil with Great Views

We truly enjoyed our stay. The views are amazing. Your looking across the canal at the preserve, we loved that it was so private. The horses were there everyday. Driving on the beach was so much fun. We went shelling every morning. The guys had lots of luck fishing from the dock. We enjoyed having the firepit in the evening. The rooms were spacious and comfortable.

We were able to relax.

The physical location is perfect. Needs a new well and better maintenance.

HUGE disappointment! The outside space has changed from the pictures. They should be updated. Inside everything was filthy. The maintenance company sent 2 people the following day to clean the place but even one of those folks said they needed a good 2 days to clean the place properly. The comforters and the pillows provided on the beds were nasty. One pillow actually had what appeared to be dried vomit on it. They laundered them while the house was being cleaned. We had to request that the grill be cleaned, as it wasn't fit to cook on. The lawn hadn't been mowed and we had to request it be done. We checked in late Saturday. Someone mowed on Wednesday. We followed the homeowners instructions for the thermostat. Monday one of the AC units froze up. Tuesday a maintenance technician brought window AC units, and they worked well in the rooms they were provided for but the other rooms stayed very hot. THE MAJOR ISSUE WAS THE WATER! The homeowner had told us that all homes in the area had private "wells" and that the water may be a yellowish color. That wasn't the case. The water was dark brown. I reported it to the maintenance co. on Saturday. Monday it hadn't been fixed so I messaged the homeowner. Her response was "I just had the filtration system replaced in April". We had several maintenance technicians in and out of the house all week and one tech told us that the homeowner's response to the last renter that took issue with the water was "we just had the water filtration system replaced in April". That led me to believe that she knew the water was unsanitary. Our hands especially around our nails are stained brown. We had to shower but cringed at the thought of it. I closed my eyes in the shower to keep from crying. The "well" is a line bringing water out of the canal. On Thursday the water guy told us the well was bad and the house needs a new one. He brought us ice and bottles of water, but the homeowner has ignored my requests to give us a partial refund or any compensation for all the ruined clothing caused by the water. We didn't take a lot because there was a washer and dryer and our truck was already loaded down with kayaks, fishing gear, etc. Posting the pictures I took isn't an option here. Trust me when I tell you to have the homeowner send you picture proof of clean water (new well) before you sign that contract! If you checked in 7/8/17 and no one called you to inform you of the bad water or AC unit you should be very MAD!!

Owner's Response: As a property owner we always hope that our guest enjoy their stay. We relay on a local reality management company that usually has a great response time if needed. They service many of the homes in the area. It was unfortunate that when the tenant checked in every room wasn't as clean as it should have been. This was an oversite on housekeeping. I requested that it be cleaned again . The tenant messaged me that "the Manger came and that the new cleaners were Awesome." I was told very late Monday that one of two a/c had froze. This can happen by setting the thermostat to low. They defrosted it and the house was 73 degrees that night. Maintenance installed window units on Tuesday morning( on a holiday) to provide additional air. The unit for the main floor was always working correctly. The second unit has since been checked by a certified A/C technician It is working properly. Our home has a well as do all of the homes in the area . Every effort has been made to provide the best water quality possible. The well is installed according to building and health regulations it is not a line out of the canal. The water in the area contains tannings which is organic and harmless. Tannings can cause the water to be colored. Filtration systems take the tannings out of the water. We replaced the filtration system this year because of changes that occurred with the water color. When the tenant told me the water was discolored I called the company that installed the new filtration system.. They tested the water and found salt in the water which was causing the filtration system to not work correctly to pull the color out of the water. The chlorinator was working correctly and the water was completely and always sanitary. The owner of Clear Water Systems suggested we replace the well. We replaced the well under the Health Department guidance with a Well Permit by a certified Well company. As we have always made every effort to provide the best quality water to our guests. I checked with other guests and they had clear water during their stay. The area is Perfect, remote and the view are amazing. The horses visit frequently which is magical. I understand that it can be upsetting if everything wasn't perfect. We made every attempt to make the tenants comfortable. She provided pictures of 2 stained tee shirts, we will be making appropriate compensation. Her request was also for a discounted repeat stay which leads me to believe she liked the house overall

Beautiful home with beautiful views of the wild horses

Would have gave a 5 star review if not for the water at the house. Definitely bring water to drink and cook with. Somehow a different filtration system needs to be installed. Other than that everything was wonderful!

Beach House

My reason for giving 3 stars was:

The outside property was nice. There is 2 double kayaks and 1 fishing boat which came in handy. There is a dock to go fishing which my kids loved every day for hours. We did crab too from the dock.

The inside of the house well it is an older house that could use some TLC. There is only 1 frig there. So you need to get ice everyday from the fire station up the road on your way to the beach. Bring ALL of drinking water. The water there is brown color. I did have the maintenance guy come out the first day and he explained to me that the water has always been that color and explained the reason. So be prepared that is the color everywhere ( shower, sink, toilet etc). The frig on the patio is broken and should be removed.

Overall this is an older house to keep in mind. We came down for the beach and did not let little things bother us. We spent 8-10 hours a day on the beach. So to come back to shower and sleep is all. They do have a gas grill but you are responsible for filling the tank. Have plenty of coolers. You will need them to store left over drinks and etc. Luckily the fire station up the street sells ice that you can pick up daily. A house this big really could use another full size frig. Whenever I come down I stop once to shop for food and then one other trip later in the week to refill. We come for the beach and don't want to have to be going into town to get water and food. We had to go out more than we wanted to get water. You don't realize how much you through. I would recommend 10-15 gallons depending on your family size.

Overall it was a nice vacation and we did what we wanted to do. The horses were in the yard daily. It is about a 30 min drive up the beach.

Disappionted !!!

Was very disappointed ,WATER is terrible should get 100$ refund for money spent on ice and water . It smelled and looked like it was pumped out of sound !One refrigerator ,the grill is a rusty mess, no gas, no handle to lift lid unusable had dinners planned for this !!!

No boat oars , the yard was a mess needed mowed branches everywhere on side parking ! These pictures for the outside need updated you can't see preserve for overgrowth . So many cobwebs couldn't use outside shower ,the hot tub area had sand everywhere and more cobwebs that covered the chairs and walls of the deck it sat on ! Yes horses are in every yard every day ! The inside was nice , could use more seatting in great room ! As always the Outer Banks is a great time .... Couldn't believe when we got there not one roll of toilet paper good thing we stopped at the store before arriving there ! If people let things you should let it, pay it forward, not throw out ! If someone else is managing this you should be following up on them ! Not my first time renting ....

Owner's Response: We are saddened that you were disappointed. We provide our cell number, and email so you can contact us. The property manager also provides their contact information., with a note to contact them if you need them or encounter any problems. We never heard from you or anyone in your group. Had you contacted us during your stay we would have did everything possible to resolve any issues you experienced. We heard from the tenant after you that the water treatment system needed a minor repair. Which was done immediately. We also replaced the BBQ when we found out that it had been damaged.

Located directly across the canal is the Spanish Mustang Reserve, where you can see wild Spanish Mustang horses grazing in their natural habitat. You can watch them swim across the canal and their daily visit to graze in the front yard. For action-oriented recreation kayak tours depart from our canal daily go on a tour or explore on your own with the kayaks we have. Crab and Fish from our dock or from our rowboat. Carova Beach Park at the end of the canal has a public boat ramp and volleyball nets. A short walk or drive and tailgate on the beach, where you can Swim, Surf, & Fish.

No visit to Corolla is complete without climbing the Currituck Beach Lighthouse, a 158-foot high structure built in 1875 that still flashes at 20-second intervals to warn ships hugging the chain of barrier islands. Next on the must see list is the Whalehead Club, a 21,000-square-foot Art Nouveau home that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Horse lovers will also enjoy the Corolla Wild Horse Museum located within the restored schoolhouse of Corolla Village. Kids have an opportunity to paint their own wild Colonial Spanish Mustang. For some great family fun, play the Grass Course, a miniature golf course on all natural grass.

Shopping is abundant at the village Timbuck II.
