Relaxing , Tranquil with Great Views

  • 5 of 5

We truly enjoyed our stay. The views are amazing. Your looking across the canal at the preserve, we loved that it was so private. The horses were there everyday. Driving on the beach was so much fun. We went shelling every morning. The guys had lots of luck fishing from the dock. We enjoyed having the firepit in the evening. The rooms were spacious and comfortable.

We were able to relax.

Thanks so much

As described

Corolla 4x4 beaches were totally worth it. Loved that we had a private dock that we could fish from. Also, lots of boaters and kayakers passing by. Very friendly neighbors! The wild horses are always a treat and they frequented the property.

The water smelled awful (well water), but we were warned in advance. As well as we were cautioned in advance about lots of bugs inside and outside of home. Especially ticks! Even with tick and flea repellant, my 2 black pugs were infested with them. Found ticks inside the home too. Not sure if they bomb the house between renters stays... My husband was bit by a black widow on our last day there, prob was hiding in the row boat. Speaking of which, the rowers (holders) were broken! We had to jimmy rig them multiple times on out lake outing. What a workout! One of the kayaks had a big patch repair job done to it. But that didn’t stop water from filling up it’s cavity so we had to constantly keep draining it. Gave up using it on day 2.

Did I meantion how awesome the beaches are?! Make sure your psi is around 18!!!

We will likely vacation in the 4x4 areas but rent a newer, well kept home.

Services provided were as described.

We had a great time! We saw the horses in the front yard and back yard...they were there for hours. We fished from the dock caught crappie and catfish. This was our first time to visit the Outer Banks we were not disappointed.

Peaceful, seclusion, happiness

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed each other and the seclusion of the 4x4 community. While others paid to ride in the backs of trucks to see wild horses, we sat on the porch and enjoyed their company. We kayaked and saw an osprey nest with parents feeding their young; we fished from the dock and caught large mouth bass; we spent one evening in the hot tub singing Zac brown band and jimmy buffet to the tops of our lungs. I needed to get away from the hustle and bustle and this place was just right. I felt partially as if Nicholas sparks might be writing a story about me as I enjoyed the beachy seclusion and romance of feeling as if I had stepped back a bit in time.

If you want to see wild horses running, playing, grazing and just laying around right in the front yard, this is the house. I loved the fact that the horses was always present and always around. In the front yard, in the back yard and even WALKING in the road. The house itself was great as well. The window units in the house helped a great deal keeping it cool. One of the first beach homes that it was comfortable. The water is a little brown when you first turn it on, normal for a lot of beach homes no matter where located, but it was fine to bathe, cook and even do laundry in. The home was so peaceful and quiet truly a place to relax. Not only did we get to watch the wild horses but we also were able to see deer, cranes and even a hummingbird with her nest. We kayaked the inlet water at the house and had the joy of peaceful water and scenery along with seeing more horses and wildlife. The fact that the house had enough room for everyone and enough bathrooms for all made it even better. I truly and thoroughly enjoyed and loved this house and location. What made the experience even better was the home owner personally called and made sure things were ok. I have been going to the beach for years and rented many beach homes and have never had the home owner themselves check in. I think that made a big impact. I HIGHLY recommend this home!!!!!

Thank You for a wonderful memorable vacation!!!! JULY 15-22 2017

Located directly across the canal is the Spanish Mustang Reserve, where you can see wild Spanish Mustang horses grazing in their natural habitat. You can watch them swim across the canal and their daily visit to graze in the front yard. For action-oriented recreation kayak tours depart from our canal daily go on a tour or explore on your own with the kayaks we have. Crab and Fish from our dock or from our rowboat. Carova Beach Park at the end of the canal has a public boat ramp and volleyball nets. A short walk or drive and tailgate on the beach, where you can Swim, Surf, & Fish.

No visit to Corolla is complete without climbing the Currituck Beach Lighthouse, a 158-foot high structure built in 1875 that still flashes at 20-second intervals to warn ships hugging the chain of barrier islands. Next on the must see list is the Whalehead Club, a 21,000-square-foot Art Nouveau home that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Horse lovers will also enjoy the Corolla Wild Horse Museum located within the restored schoolhouse of Corolla Village. Kids have an opportunity to paint their own wild Colonial Spanish Mustang. For some great family fun, play the Grass Course, a miniature golf course on all natural grass.
