About Heidi Koch

Originally from California, Jake and I met out in Colorado where we lived for over 17 years. We enjoyed living there and sharing all the fabulous outdoor activities with our children as well. We purchased our Baja house in 2007 hoping to spend some quality time with our family at the ocean. We surely enjoy this special time with such an amazing view of the Pacific! More recently we have moved back to California in the San Luis Obispo area and are looking forward to sharing all that California has to offer with our children as they grow, but also hoping to get to Baja even more than before.

Heidi Koch purchased this house in 2007

Why Heidi Koch chose Rosarito Beach

We first vacationed at this house during Thanksgiving time in 2006. It was for sale and we loved our time here so much that we bought the property soon after. Our plan was to be able to enjoy the house when we were able to get away from Colorado and to continue to use it as a vacation rental as well. We have had many memorable visits with our children. They absolutely love being at the Baja house. The connection with the ocean is unforgettable.

What makes this house unique

One of my favoite places when at the house is the front entry courtyard. It's such a cool place to sit on a warm summer day. The bouganvilla cascading over the entry is absolutely beautiful. But it's undeniably the view of the Pacific Ocean on the back patio that cannot be forgotten. Being able to walk down to the waves to surf in front of the house is Jake's favorite activity.

Come experience our House by the Waves, Casa De Las Olas. It is such a family friendly house in a quiet and safe neighborhood with a beach below (depending on tides) and the village of Puerto Nuevo next door. Perfect for a couple or a family.

Can't wait to return

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had a wonderful time. The house is well equipped with all the basic amenities and is perfectly located near puerto Nuevo. There is a small rocky beach below where we enjoyed searching for colorful stones my husband found quite a few sea shells. We will definitely be back.

Amazing weekend away

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at this perfect little house. It's even more beautiful than the pictures show and more spacious. It had everything we needed (including reliable internet). We drove in from CA. National/Enterprise will let you drive a rental into Mexico for an additional $35/day for insurance. We bought groceries/bottled water in San Diego. Border crossing was fast (15 minutes late morning on a Friday). Meeting up with Debbie to get the keys was simple. The house is in a comfortable little neighborhood that felt totally safe. There is access to the beach just a few houses down. It was the perfect little spot at low tide. We also went to La Mision beach which was fairly clean, easy free parking off the toll road about 10 miles south. Puerto Nuevo is an easy walk and had lots of little shops (get ready to negotiate) and lots of good food. There was also a little liquor store in Puerto Nuevo (very inexpensive). We grabbed dinner to go at El Pescador restaurant (right at the entrance to the community) which was delicious. But you really don't ever want to leave the house. The views are amazing. The deck is comfortable. Gorgeous ocean breeze. Beautiful sunsets. Waves crashing at night. We left early on a Sunday morning, hitting the border at 6:45am and it took an hour to get through. We would love to come here again and bring our children. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Perfect weekend!

  • 5 of 5

This home is great! Loved the Baja style. Lots of space, very comfortable and a wonderful deck to enjoy the outdoors. It is right on the ocean cliff with a fantastic view and a few houses down there is stairway access to the beach. The community/campo was cool too, lots of friendly people. El Pescador gives you the best of all worlds... on the water, close to Rosarito and La Mision and some nice restaurants and walking distance to Puerto Nuevo (lobster village). The house can accommodate several people but there were only two of us and we each had lots of privacy with our own bedrooms and bathrooms. Thoroughly enjoyed our time here and look forward to a return visit!

Great experience

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed this place. It was very charming, and authentic without without having that cell block feel that is common in Baja abodes. The bed was nice, the kitchen was ample ,and the internet worked so we were able to plan some fun stuff after arrival. We really enjoyed the fireplace, and the deck. Another great aspect is that this place is in a little ex-pat neighborhood right next to the Puerto Nuevo town so it is close enough to go enjoy that but not touristy or hectic feeling. Very cool.

My only critique is the check-in is a little old school. Having to meet up for the key takes coordination, and with having to wrangle kids and navigate the always unpredictable border crossing it caused a little more stress than I like to experience going into a vacation, but we made it eventually ,and getting the rundown of the details of the house may provide useful for some people. Overall it was an awesome place, and I'd highly recommend!

The quaint lobster village of Puerto Nuevo is a two-minute drive or a short stroll down the beach. The village is home to many restaurants and marketplace outdoor shopping.

Casa de las Olas is only 15 minutes south of Rosarito Beach with its wide sand beaches, wonderful restaurants, and great shopping. Shop with local merchants and artisans! Casa de las Olas is located approximately 40 minutes from the San Diego International Airport and 30 minutes south of the Mexican border from Tijuana
