About Tasey Miyahira Owner/Manager

I grew up here on Maui by Mama's Fish House on the beach of Kuau with many fond memories of spear fishing, catching lobster, and grilling our catch on the beach. One day, me and my buddies were watching Don Ho singing, 'Tiny Bubbles' at Mama's Fish House as a young boy peeking in the window.

As I grew, I went hunting for deer and pig upcountry. Then I knew, upcountry Maui could be my piece of paradise in the clouds. The tranquil cool breezes, lush greenery, and the many rainbow skies were for me.

Tasey Miyahira Owner/Manager purchased this house in 1991

Why Tasey Miyahira Owner/Manager chose Makawao

Our piece of paradise is this mountain home. We work all day or play all day; then return to relax at our private country home. We enjoyed raising cattle, planting fruit, and flowers of different varieties to share with our family. The elevation keeps it cool and green year round. There are close amenities, shopping, and activities.

What makes this house unique

Our sunsets, rainbows, and ocean view from the lanai at breakfast or early dinners.

Where the home was built on the back of the property for privacy.

The separate lower level for our older children; after a hard day at work, sometimes allowing our six children to invite cousins and friends to the lower level to watch their kid movies, play games, or listen to their stereo.

The separate upstairs den, TV, and stereo for us adults. The master suite Jacuzzi for relaxing.

Family cooking together and visiting outside our carport with the cool breeze. Where our children would run, bike, and play with no worries down the private drive.

The small town amenities, activities, and the open green mountain pastures minutes away.

This place is great

  • 5 of 5

This house is amazing. It’s two spaces. Two bedrooms in each space. The upstairs has a great living room and large dining room. It’s great to meet back and eat dinner at then end of your beach days. The patio just off the upstairs dining room, is perfect. We ate breakfast and watched the goats every morning. In the evening we watched the sunset. It’s very close to a quaint downtown with several great restaurants, a great coffee shop (sip me), and bakery (Komodo). Not far from Hali’imaile General Store, one of the best dinners on our trip. Escaping the tourist areas for upcountry, in this house, every night was one of the best parts of Maui for us.

Comfortable for groups

  • 4 of 5

Property was clean upon arrival and we were so impressed with the beach supplies available... Tubs of snorkel masks and fins, 7 beach chairs, at least 3 beach mats, a noodles, etc. Inside there were also surprises such as shampoo and body wash in the showers. Plenty of towels and wash cloths were provided including beach towels and there were two washers and dryers So many conveniences!!! The reason for removing one star is the lack of central air downstairs (though swamp coolers kept the bedrooms cool) and a couple of maintenance issues during our stay. The downstairs lock messed up causing us to have to leave the door ajar when no one was inside to keep from getting locked out. It was supposed to be fixed one day but wasn't fixed until the next. We also had a little difficulty with a burner on the stove. The owner was very kind and generally seemed to attempt to provide immediate responses to our difficulties. Overall really enjoyed our stay and is centrally located if you are planning on adventuring around the whole island as we did.

Owner's Response: Aloha, Mahalo for the review. I apologize for the delay with the door entry lock. Our maintenance is normally very reliable. They had told me 10 to 15 minutes; my work was missed until later. We are improving our air conditioning for the downstairs for future guests. We have had some heat breaking days for upcountry Maui. We want our home at it's best for each guest. Sorry for any inconvenience. Tasey

Perfect for our family

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at this home. Just what we were looking for. Away from the hustle and bustle at night, with cool, comfortable breezes at night, but accessible to everything we wanted to do basically within about 1/2 hour drive. We would highly recommend this place and location to anyone.

Perfect Hub

  • 5 of 5

This place was a great fit for our group of 8. Beds are comfortable and lots of space. Loved waking up in the mornings to a symphony of Hawaiian birds! Makawao is a good central location, very convenient for our day trips to explore all of Maui.

Clean and quiet.

  • 4 of 5

The home was clean. They responded quickly with concerns. The upstairs had some upgrades. Air conditioning upstairs which was important as hot and humid at the time of our stay. Bottom level clean but lacked the upgrades. Laundry accommodations great. Downside, and the reason for four instead of five star rating, is the bottom level, which you access from outside, was very hot. They had swamp coolers to help, but even with them running still too warm. As such, we all slept upstairs. Also, you could see outside from where the swamp coolers vented to exterior. No bugs or mice however. Good thing. Overall, a pleasant experience.

Owner's Response: Aloha, We are sorry for the heat wave during your stay, usually the open windows can be cool enough. During these heat waves, central air conditioning is the best. The downstairs are portable air conditioning in the bedrooms and must have all windows closed in the bedroom to work effectively. All other windows in downstairs can be open for the cool breeze. We are looking to provide central air for downstairs. Mahalo for your stay.

Peaceful, beautiful & clean place!

  • 4 of 5

My husband & I stayed here with our 5 kids. We rented both the downstairs & upstairs. Upon arrival, we noticed the home was surrounded by several fruit trees! Our favorite was the lychee tree. The property was peaceful & pretty quiet, even though there was a farm with goats & cows next to the property. My younger ones enjoyed watching the animals and naming them. The altitude of the property was perfect; not too high (cold) & not too low (hot). Love the cool breezes we got. The home was clean & furnished with the necessities. The only reason why I gave this property 4 stars instead of 5 is because I wish it was furnished with beach towels. We didn't pack them because we assume it would have them like previous homes we rented before. We had to go buy ours, so be sure to bring your own. Also, there was a printer but no ink nor paper; we had to go buy them in order to print our boarding passes. We left the ink cartridge & I think my husband left some paper in the printer too. Other than these minor things, everything was great & we have a wonderful experience. Will rent again if we visit Maui!
