Perfect, secluded paradise

  • 5 of 5

Set on a beautiful beach between large resorts with a beautifully maintained pool and gardens this is the perfect anti-resort. No crowds, no loud music just a perfect view, the sound of the rolling surf and tranquility. One does need to shop and cook for themselves but the transport provides a shop at the Super Polo or Jumbo grocery stores. Don't forget the immense discount liquor store near the Jumbo. You will find everything you need. We had no car and managed fine. Hitched a ride with another guest to the grocery for our second week. Best beach rental I've ever had! Daily or longer rental cars available on site for $80 if only for the day. Wide, spacious terrace makes even a rainy day a pleasure for outdoor reading and dining. Weather in March was 77 to 82 degrees with a breeze every day. Ocean and unheated pool were a perfect temperature for swimming. A few rustic beach dining spots a short stroll up and down the beach but they close early: serve until 6-7. Not sure how they stay open when they are surrounded by all inclusive resorts.

Beautiful and Private

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at Las Dunas. The complex was VERY quiet while we were there. We felt like we had the whole place to ourselves and never had to worry about finding a place to have a chair as there were plenty. The beach was perfect for sunning and reading books and there were never vendors. The security was very watchful and made sure everything was OK, they even returned a lost nice water bottle my daughter left on the beach. The unit itself was gorgeous, very clean and exactly like the pictures. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need including the blender. The balcony is huge and it was great to have meals out there. Raphael, who is the manager of the complex, picked us up from the airport and took us shopping on the way to the place and told us many tips on the drive. He lives at the complex with his family as well and takes pride in your experience. He had arranged our rental car and had it waiting at the unit . This was a great deal but make sure you specify you want a full tank of gas in the car! We drove back to Bavaro for dinners which was about 25 minutes but the drive is very easy once you figure out where all the speed bumps are. Directions are not a problem and cell service is great there so don't be afraid to drive and explore. We drove to Macao beach to the south, it is very pretty as well. Wifi at the resort is free at the pool. As others have said, there is nothing nearby in the way of food so buy a lot at the grocery store! All in all, highly recommended, would go back!

Relaxing and a great cultural experience

  • 4 of 5

The trip was very relaxing, and the condo was a great fit for our family of 4. The staff is well organized and is as helpful as possible, and the grounds were beautiful. We rented a car and got to see the local area, lots of Bavaro (where the best restaurants and grocery stores are), and experience the culture. It was a great experience and we would do it again!

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time to Punta Cana. We took our family of 5. We have 3 boys ranging from 7-13 years of age and it was absolutely perfect. The staff at Las Dunas was top notch with 24 hour security, and you have a private pool and beach. We had concerns about waiting to book our excursions until our arrival, which was recommend by Rafeal and Marcia, and it was all perfect. They were very helpful and informative on what to do and everything was done in a very timely manner. We would decide what we wanted to do and within in no time we received notification that someone would be to get us and the time of their arrival. Not only was the staff great the residents were over the top friendly and welcoming as well as informative of things to do and not to do! The condo was nice, clean, and comfortable. The view was simply breath taking from our 2nd floor balcony. Another plus is we could see our kids in the pool and beach from the balcony. We did a catamaran and snorkeling tour with the hispanola aquatic adventures, recommended by residents, and it was absolutely amazing. We ate at Seafood Paradise, also recommended, it was very good. We wanted family pictures done, Marcia has a photographer she recommends and our pictures turned out amazing. Macao beach was BEAUTIFUL!! Alisia, an employee at Las Dunas, came and cooked for us one night, highly recommend that, food was great and it was very reasonably priced. We rented a car from Rafael, would definitely do that again. Much more simple than renting one at airport. Rafael picked us up at airport, stopped by grocery store on our way to condo, and our rental car was at the property waiting on us. Virginia, the lady we booked through on the VRBO site, was extremely informative and helpful. She was more than willing to help with ANYTHING!! I honestly can't say enough good about this place and the people. Tons of options to do anything you would want to do, yet VERY relaxing! Without a doubt we WILL be back and stay in the exact same place. Perfect vacation, great price, and no glitches!!!

Loved it! Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

Everything at Las Dunas is wonderful. From the staff, Pauline and Rafeal who saved our life when we got lost driving in, to Marcia in the office and the residents who were so welcoming. The condo was comfy and clean. The view was spectacular and the value so great. Steps literally from the beach. Days lounging at the pool or under a palm tree. Not a lot of infrastructure around, but get to know some of the residents and listen to them as they wil steer to small local cafes and things to see. Eat at Seafood Paradise ( thanks Rafael), a massage at Tropical Treasures ($35 for an hour? Wow) fried chicken and what else? fries at Coco's. We took the dune buggy tour which was great ( be prepared to be solicited at every turn). Loved Macao Beach but again a lot of local solicitors and some areas not available for swimmers only surfers. Make sure you stock up at the grocery on your way in as there really is no close grocery to Las Dunas. Be careful of car rental at airport as your reservation price is more of a "suggestion" rather than the actual price, better yet rent from Rafeal at Las Dunas! Thanks everyone for a lovely visit, am recommending to all my friends.

Wonderful View..Very Private Beach

  • 5 of 5

We stayed 10 days at Las Dunas and very much enjoyed it. All the positive comments written by previous reviews are accurate. Las Dunas itself is as advertised. The beach is very private and not at all crowed. The condo was comfortable with a magnificent view from thr 2nd floor balcony. There are a few minor improvements that we recommended to the owner such as upgrading pots and pans and facet fixtures but they do not take away from the experience of comfortably being there.

Marcia and Rafael and the entire staff were excellent. We highly recommend you rent a car due to the lack of restaurants and grocery stores in the area. It is a fairly easy drive to Bavaro and back for nice restaurants and grocery stores. The lady that cooks for you and mentioned in other reviews is outstanding. We ate at Seafood Paradise and enjoyed it. On the other hand, our experience eating at Kucara-Macara was not. Very disappointing and very, very expensive. Two of our party got sick from the food there. So, just my opinion but I would never eat there again.

Overall, it was a great vacation and we would definitely return to Las Dunas.
