About Sandy Hammack

We left Colorado for more solitude and a quieter environment in Southern Utah. We have been married for 30 years. Ricki is a kitchen designer and Sandy makes ever-green videos and whacky videos for fun. Hiking and backpacking are common activities for us.

Sandy Hammack purchased this house in 2013

Why Sandy Hammack chose Utah

Due to high demand for our other Holiday Home in Escalante, La Luz Desert Retreat, we built La Luna Desert Retreat on the adjacent lot to accommodate larger parties with the same spectacular views.

What makes this house unique

We love watching the big sky light change over Escalante National Monument from the living room sofa or while preparing meals from La Luna's kitchen.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a freak snowstorm and lost power for 9 hours. These guests really went with the punches by making the biggest snowman yet in La Luna's history.

They also left La Luna sparkling clean after a week's stay. I want to thank them for being so considerate and flexible.

Loved this house. Had everything we needed.

  • 5 of 5

We picked the house because it was a little different from the other places we stayed in Utah. Contemporary and comfortable furnishings. Owners thought of everything & spared no expense in making this place feel like home. The large front windows provided a great view of mountains. We sat on the deck at night and watched the sunset and afterdark, we saw amazing views of the stars! Escalante is close to Bryce Canyon and Capital Reef. We would definitely stay here again!

Wonderful countryside

La Luna is a comfortable and attractive base for plenty of hiking and sightseeing. The view is beautiful, day or night. Don't forget about the star gazing!

The unit has everything we needed (except a pizza cutter :-) ).

We enjoyed our stay in Escalante so much. This home has a fantastic view, on the edge of town. It's quiet and peaceful. I would certainly stay here again.

Amazing! Perfect oasis surrounded by mountains and canyons

  • 5 of 5

Lets start with what needs fixing....nothing! House descriptions were spot on. Perfect size for daddy/daughter retreat. Kitchen setup well as we easily cooked 5 dinners there. Also Loved the light free nights for star gazing. Added bonus a washer and dryer!

There's also a blu ray player for chilling at night. Already thinking about next trip!
