About Sandy Hammack-Brown
We left Colorado for more solitude and a quieter environment in Southern Utah. We have been married for 30 years. Ricki is a kitchen designer and Sandy makes ever-green videos and whacky videos for fun. Hiking and backpacking are common activities for us.
Sandy Hammack-Brown purchased this House in 2013
Why Sandy Hammack-Brown chose Escalante
Due to high demand for our other Holiday Home in Escalante, La Luz Desert Retreat, we built La Luna Desert Retreat on the adjacent lot to accommodate larger parties with the same spectacular views.
What makes this House unique
We love watching the big sky light change over Escalante National Monument from the living room sofa or while preparing meals from La Luna's kitchen.

Everything we wanted and more in a vacation rental!
What an amazing experience we had at this home!! This is an incredibly special place in a beautiful landscape. We had easy access to many of the local trailheads and national parks. There were lots of amenities in town such as an organic grocery store, shops, and had access to everything we needed. The home was well organized and had all the supplies needed to cook and clean. We highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to disconnect from the rest of the world!
Great location, great place, great service.
The house is so beautifully designed and overlooks great scenery. Very clean and comfortable.
A wonderful retreat after hiking. We loved the set up and views from the living room. Sandy was quick to respond to any questions I had before our arrival. Overall a great experience!
Wonderful place to stay!!!
My family of 4 from MN stayed her for a long week while hiking in Escalante during Spring Break.
We day hiked Boulder Mail Trail, Golden Cathedral, Davis Gulch, Bryce Canyon and Little Death Hollow. We also did a two-night, three-day backpack at Coyote Gulch. This was our second Spring Break in Escalante and we still have things to do on our list!! The area is wonderful for hikers and the restaurants are surprising good.
The layout of La Luna is very efficient giving you everything you need in a compact but spacious footprint. The main space has a full kitchen, dining for 6, and a comfortable living room with a floor-to-ceiling / wall-to-wall window at the south end with an awesome view.
There are two comfortable bedrooms with a shared bathroom with stacking laundry. Shower is nice and hot!!! WiFi was very strong (important for teenagers).
The locations of the windows were very well considered in terms of controlling views to exterior away from the neighboring houses. Whoever designed this house knew what they were doing.
My wife stayed here for two days while the twins and I did longer hikes and she totally loved it. The contemporary stucco box floats above the ground plane from the outside and the south porch is a great place to have a glass of wine.
The pleasant walk into town is about a mile. Communication with the Owners was clear and easy.
Would definitely stay here again
Exactly as described, clean, amazing views, overall a great place to stay.
Canyoneering is popular (Peek-a-Boo & Spooky). Scenic Highway 12 - famous. Calf Creek Falls - 6 mile hike (out & back) with 100 feet water falls.
