Your outdoor opportunities are endless from your comfy and cozy 2 bedroom 1 bath cottage on the upcountry's most quiet and secluded lake. Relax to the sounds of frogs and whippoorwills at night, explore and fish the lake with the included Jon boat, swim or float or hike around the lake or to the many nearby waterfalls or on the extensive Foothills trail system.
The property has a large level lot with great lake access for wading, fishing, or just sitting around enjoying the scenery. There is a fire pit and gentle off-shore breezes are almost a certainty in the evenings to make having a small fire while listening to the surrounding nature one of the highlights of your trip.
While the home has plenty of room for larger groups, we prefer to limit guests to 4 total to maintain and respect the peacefulness of the lake and surroundings. This property is not intended for those who wish to party or have many guests visiting but rather for small families or couples who wish to spend some quality time together and reconnect with each other and nature. While the cabin is all about relaxing and unplugging, we regrettably offer satellite TV and wireless internet access because for some it is a necessity but avoiding these modern-day trappings is highly recommended to maximize your experience. Cell phones will not work around the lake or in the immediate area.
The lake and property are located in the northern-most tip of South Carolina in the 'town' of Mountain Rest just a couple miles from the Wild and Scenic Chattooga River, one of only seven US rivers to have this designation and made famous in the movie 'Deliverance'. What makes this area so unique is the fact that it is mostly undiscovered, devoid of traffic or stress, and known only to locals yet offers more outdoor activities and unspoiled nature than any of the more famous nearby vacation destinations. The cabin and lake alone would be enough to keep many occupied and satisfied but within 15 minute drive from the lake are enough trails, waterfalls and river access points to keep one busy for an entire summer; within less than hour are the quaint towns of Cashiers and Highlands NC and Clayton Georgia. Within 2 hours are Asheville NC, Pisgah and Smoky mountain National parks.
Great place to take your vacation! It's all here... and close to everything. The Private Gated Lake is clean and beautiful in the Mountains. A nice level lot for easy acces to the lake. Had a great time swimming, and fishing (caught several bass)... The lake home has everything you could need... including a fantistic view of the lake! Close to resturants, shopping etc. We should have stayed longer! Thanks for letting us enjoy your home.... Don and Bonnie
First of all I have to say that I have been looking for a lake house like this for the past 5 years! This is the best property on this lake! Perfect for Dogs and a place to escape to find peace and quiet. Private, big yard, comfortable home with a beautiful lake. We loved having access to a boat, kayaks, floats, fun noodles, etc. We kayaked everyday. The lake was small enough to be able to kayak the whole thing in a little over an hr, but also large enough to be tired afterwards. I sat on the dock while the dogs and hubby swam around in the lake. We had a bonfire in the fire pit every night with smores. Sitting on the back screen in porch was so relaxing as we looked at the lake scenery. We ate every meal there. I would suggest maybe buying a small table or picnic bench for the back porch. Also the picnic table outside need to be replaced. We just happened to bring our own fold out table to use on screen porch. The swing and rocking chairs were a nice touch on screen porch. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook every meal. We also enjoyed sitting in the living room watching movies when it rained late one night. We definitely hope to be back next year. Thank you for sharing your home with us.
We had a great time
Mornings were wonderful
we sat at the dock, read books, drank a few cocktails and totally relaxed
great dinner at the dakota grill
This was just what we needed! Cabin is in a gated community in a casual, country setting. We stayed for a full week and almost never left the property- except to run up the road for a few supplies, visit Chattooga Belle Farm, and go for a waterfall hike. It was amazing to spend all day outside, fishing swimming, lounging, and floating around. Cell service REALLY doesn't work, but that turned out to be a nice break. Internet worked great and landline is good for emergency or to have family call us. If you really want to unplug and get away from the chaos of life, this is an amazing and unique place that is perfect for that! We were so relaxed and slowed down by the time we left. And somehow the week went be so fast! Thanks for providing such a great vacation spot, we loved it.
My wife and I and our dog had a very relaxing and great time staying at the lake House. The area is very beautiful and the cool mountain air was refreshing. The lake was pleasant and we enjoyed swimming and boating on the lake. The view absoulety beautiful and the house was very clean and everything work without any problems. The owner was very courteous and prompt in returning emails. Overall, I recommend staying here for a quiet and relaxing vacation
We just got back from a week at Michael's lake house and could not have been more thrilled with our family vacation. Like others have mentioned, it is the perfect location to relax, enjoy gorgeous scenery and escape the hustle of everyday life. There is no cell service and internet/cable is spotty but honestly, you didn't need it one bit.
The house is fully stocked with literally everything you could possible need. Aside from the normal necessities, they have classic board games (my 8 year old was enamored by the "vintage" games that were available), life vests, floats, hammocks, pool noodles, fishing poles, etc and the house has the most charming antiques and vintage dishes. They even had cake pans and a cake plate which came in handy for my husband's birthday cake we made for him.
While we spent most of our week just relaxing at the house, fishing (well, my husband and boys did), swimming and playing together, we did venture out a few times to attend the Hillbilly Day (a local 4th of July festival) and had a picnic at Issaqueena Falls and walk inside the Stumphouse Tunnel.
In case you have any doubt, we will definitely be back. Thanks again Michael for your amazing hospitality, we greatly appreciate it!
