About Kristen Hoke

My name is Kristen Hoke and I built this home in the year 2000, fulfilling a life long dream to design and build a home in the mountains. I lived in New Mexico as a child and returned here again in 1986. I have been an Emergency Room nurse for most of my life until recently and am now pursuing my love for textiles through my own business Posh By Gosh, Inc. My passions are traveling, design, music, and nature.

This photo was taken with my dear friends' children, Alexandre and Claire, who were visiting from France.

Kristen Hoke purchased this house in 2000

Why Kristen Hoke chose Santa Fe

I was drawn to this particular area after house-sitting for a friend years ago. In my search for land in 1999, my realtor brought me out here (by my surprise) and I knew as soon as I drove up on top of my knoll that I had found my spot. I love that it is close and an easy drive to town but that it feels like you are miles from nowhere!

What makes this house unique

I love the setting for its' beauty and tranquility. It is a true haven and special place.

Beautiful mountain escape yet close to downtown. The perfect getaway!

  • 5 of 5

From start to finish this vacation home was everything and more! Kristen the owner met us at her beautiful home and guided us through every amenity and answered all our questions. She was available 24/7 with any additional questions and a pleasure all around. The home itself is fantastic and our kids loved the trampoline and hot tub. The views from every angle are scenic and relaxing and our kids would lay on the trampoline and watch the sunset. This is the perfect getaway and we highly recommend it and plan on returning soon!

Amazing Family Retreat

  • 5 of 5

This place is amazing! Pictures don't do it justice. We are a super busy family and needed to get away and spend quality time together this Christmas. This was the ticket! We loved the drive on the dirt road out to the house and felt like we were on a retreat together. The views were beautiful, it was private, and It was still close enough to town that we could go in and do some sight seeing and family activities. We took advantage of all the amenities--the fireplace, the hot tub, and the trampoline. The kids loved the trampoline and my husband and I acted like kids again on it :) At night, we would lay down on the trampoline with blankets to look at the amazing view of the stars. The kitchen is fully stocked to make meals, and we took advantage of that several times. Kristen met us at the house to welcome us and show us around. She had a book with lots of recommendations for restaurants and activities, as well as instructions for some of the house's amenities. She had a Christmas tree set up for us and let us decorate it with the kids, which was great. We had a couple of questions during our stay and she was quick to respond. We'd love to go back again! When we got back home, our son told us he doesn't like our house anymore, he likes the house on the mountain (he's four). LOL

Super views, inside and outside

  • 5 of 5

Open and airy, lots of museum quality art including furniture pieces and decor. Outside has great sunrises and three sides of the house offer differing landscapes to contemplate and relax. If you want to "get away from it all," you'll have an adventure over a rippled, dusty dirt road (November); the route narrows to one lane nearer the home but it's worth the drive for the seclusion and closeness of nature. Lots of wildlife like deer and ravens. The ravens may have some interaction with surrounding residents: They seem to have some interest in what goes on at the house. The house was very clean. Vacationers should be family or well-acquainted: One bedroom has a beaded entrance with easy entry into the kitchen/dining area. The attached bathroom is convenient. The other bedroom has "latticed" doors with easy access to its separate bathroom facilities. Again, the plan is very open with easy access to the outside from almost every spot in the house. There is a nice TV/audio system. Nice collection of books. The owner does a great job of providing directions and instructions on how to enjoy the property and the surroundings. Great breakfast burrito right off the freeway. Owner also provides A TON of tourist information about Santa Fe and all of New Mexico. Hot tub is HOT but adjust it down if it's too much. Brush the sand and rocks off your feet, first.

Very cozy, quiet, and secluded

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed at Mescelaro House for our 25th wedding anniversary. We enjoyed the many comforts of the house and the peace and quiet of the surrounding area. It's a very relaxing place to be!

Because I am a home chef, I was delighted to find a kitchen stocked with all the needed utensils as well as an assortment of spices and oils. As a result, cooking meals was a delightful experience!

If you just want to get away and be alone for awhile, Mescalero House is the place for you! And, if you want to experience Santa Fe and Albuquerque, they're not too far away. It's the best of both worlds!

Gorgeous unique home

  • 5 of 5

The pictures do not do this house justice. It is more unique and beautiful then what they can show. The location is very peaceful and tranquil but very convenient to the highway to go sight seeing and to various restaurants. The homeowner, Kristen, was very nice and very communicative and the reservation process was a breeze and she gave excellent recommendations for our trip. She met us at the house and showed us around and has a huge notebook filled with tips and brochures about the area. The house has all the amenities you will need and was very clean and decorated beautifully. We felt very relaxed and safe during our time there and would love to return again for another visit to Santa Fe.
